I just woke up to this playing on my phone, so I listened for awhile. What I hear is curiosity and passion for alot of different things and living life , that is great. Hopefully this will encourage others.
I accidentally found Meat Eater and Steve Rinella a year ago. Have been a fan ever since. His shows led me to take up hunting after almost 30 years absence. I’m in my 70’s and now regret ever giving it up. Have read his books and watch the show daily. Hope to meet up some day.
Good interview. Just gotta say, love watching the Meateater episode where Steve was in Northeast South Dakota. I from there and last fall was crazy!! Deer hunting with my kids and there was tornadoes of ducks in the sky!! Literally millions of em!! And geese everywhere. I gotta laugh, during the episode Steve's guide couldn't get them on any geese!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 There are millions of geese up there!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 oooo well!! Maybe next time
It is always a pleasure to listen to Rinella. I have a few years on him, but am also what most would consider an old fashioned all-around woodsman. I am a "generalist" I guess.....I hunt, fish, and trap all the species available to me as a Michigan woodsman. And, I find a bunch of satisfaction in doing things on my own. Would I enjoy a guided elk hunt where I could tag a beautiful 6x6 bull pointed out by my excellent guide?......absolutely would!, but honestly, I would rather bring home a 4x4 public land rag-horn that I found all on my own. It carries with it a tremendous amount of satisfaction to be that guy, the one who is woodsman enough to pull it off all on his own. My All Purpose Boy is the same way. I hope my two grandsons are each enough of a woodsman to do the same, and to appreciate it when they do. Thanks for the podcast. I enjoyed listening to a fellow Great Lakes area outdoorsman.
This was great, and a great time well wasted. Loved it, at my age good things like this are very enjoyable and very important to me. Mark and Steve, thank you for this podcast. Thank you Vortex, I will be doing the intro classes for the long range total shooter program, soon at EDGE in Barneveld.
Loved the episode especially Steve making his kids do things they didn't want because of the life lessons it will bring even if they choose different paths later in life, hopefully more will see the wisdom in this logic.
Steven single handedly turned me on to Vortex optics and I haven’t strayed since lol. I’m way poorer than my tastes ha and I’d def like to upgrade to some of the higher ends for light and clarity. Keep it up guys and happy hunting!
Caught up on all the Meateater podcasts last summer and learned 3 main things: 1) Steve has a lot of ex girlfriends 2) Steve used to drink a lot, stopped, now drinks a little 3) CWD talk and early COVID talk were eerily similar
There's a lot of children and men and women for that matter, who are afraid to go it alone. To get outside their comfort zones. I grew up in a single mother home without guns. She wasn't opposed to guns though. So people came to our farm for Thanksgiving and shot clays. I was hooked then and there.
My son first shot his 10 22 like 2 months before he turned 4 loved the hell out of it cuz he grew up watch me shoot and reload helk sit there and be handing me the powder or brass while I'm reloading but now he's 6 I bought him a cricket put a scope on and he just lays down with me and just plink steel I got a couple spinners he loves shoot for Christmas I bought him a smith and wesson 22 pistol I picked it cuz it has a good safety that's easy for my son to flick on and off but I took out after Christmas to go shoot it and he loved shooting it. My son always loves doing whatever dad is doing he's right there helping me the reason y I introduced him to firearms so soon at a young age is cuz since he was little being around my guns I always told him to never ever touch my guns unless I tell u and never go into my gun room with out me he is super safe with guns he listens to what I'm teaching him and we both have a blast teach them now so if they ever run across one wen ur not there they don't get hurt they no not to touch it or mess with it. Love the pod cast been listening to u guys for like 4 years now always look forward to new episodes oh and u guys putting video's on u UA-cam for us to see is awesome
That is super cool! We're glad to see your son getting into shooting and spending some quality time with you. Thanks for tuning into the podcast and for being a part of Vortex Nation, my friend!👊
Hey Steve, your Spotify podcast needs video. Just put a camera, doesn't have to be fancy. I'll listen while I work, but will not listen if I'm inside chilling bc there's no video. Can do either with video. Just saying...
You guys should take your kids on a youth hunt together so they have hunting friends they look forward to seeing. Might add a layer to use as a carrot to get them excited about going hunting/fishing. As a kid I hated rodeo event type stuff and that was my dad's life, but the instant I made "rodeo friends" that I didn't see except when I went it made me want to go and I didn't drag my feet to go.
Sage words Steve, I’m lucky I live in NZ we can hunt all year round and we are a people who’s culture is based on being outdoors. Makes me appreciate what I have. Shame America has become focused on guns and shooting and not hunting and being out there in the wild. 20 minutes in the wilderness is better for your soul than 10 hours at the gun range
It's interesting how Americans have different perspectives of the same animal. Funny enough, in Texas I'll hear "4x4" for an 8-point...5x4 for a 9....etc. It took me awhile to understand what the hell they were talking about. I took a buddy from TX up to Wisco to hunt family property and he couldn't believe the size of Sconnie whitetail. Ryan Muckapedia.......7mm Rem Mag

Steve should come out with a book called “Steve’s ADD, book of random thoughts” for all stuff from all the books that got cut by editors.
😂 There's an idea!
I appreciate these podcasts, keep em going guys.
Thanks for tuning in!👊

He also has trichinosis from eating raw bear meat. It never goes away.
Awesome conversation. Steven has taught me a lot about hunting and conservation, meat eater is a great show.
We need a coyote series, where steve, and the other coyote hunters get together and have 1 big series on coyote and hog

Love me some MeatEater!
What does one have to do to get a hunt with you guys??!!

I’m catching up on your videos so this question may have already been answered, but why is there a box of Crayons in the Vortex ready room?
What caliber does he use most?
I'm pretty sure it's 7mm. I'm not 100% but I'm 90% sure lol

It's called "Ground Shrinkage" LOL I've experienced it many times.

Ryan Muckapedia.......7mm Rem Mag
Whitetail Bucks up in Saskatchewan
Ryan doesn't like the 7mm Rem Mag. Doubt he'd do it
Count the freaking eye guards already. If its a point it is a point!!
You stand by moose, you don’t stand over them.
In American buffalo you said that would be the only buffalo you ever killled and it wasn’t 🤦♂️🙄

Love that he gives his 10th grade teacher credit
