Very nice done. And as a bonus, this was the only video posted that shows hw to remove the stereo with the Infinity sound system. THANKS!

Thank you! Masterfully demonstrated and well narrated. The radio/CD player in the 2008 Hyundai Sante Fe is known to be a piece of junk. It ate my CD's, made grinding noises and has been useless right after I made my last payment, no doubt, except for the XM which is the only thing I use. I'd like to get another stereo/CD player this time with AUX ports but I'm afraid of losing my steering wheel remote controls which is all I really use.

+Victor Varisco I just bought an iSimple Bluetooth add-on, which I expect will work fine in my new 2007 Santa Fe.

+David Reitter how does it sound? better than fm or same? thanks

    • @davidreitter1390
      @davidreitter1390 9 років тому

Better than FM radio, for sure. I can't tell the difference between this FMdirect-to-cable and using an analog AUX port.
The only issues with it are that the output of the box is weak and you need to crank up the volume on the radio (so it's loud for a few second when you start the car), and that audio quality is poor for people talking to you on the phone via the hands-free phone function. I'm happy with it, overall.

Thank you for posting this. It worked fine for me. I spent $15 on a nice set of plastic pry tools, and that was worth it. The video is for the Infinity radio. My radio (XM) did not have a speaker, but a little storage compartment with a pop-up lid, which was trivial to remove (two screws on the aft side).

David Reitter did your cd player mess up or did you have a blank screen with the backlight only working?

  • @paulbelsey7111

Thanks for this. My radio was locked into "cd-in" mode and wouldn't accept a cd. In the intro it says to de-branch the battery for a few minutes. It worked!! Many thanks as it saved me a long round trip to the Hyundai dealership - for almost nothing!!

Just a heads up. If you take the the radio out of the 2011 and plan to drive it for a few days before putting in the new radio, you will need to reattach some of the dash wire harnesses, or you will be without your signal lights. I learned this the hard way.

Yeahhhhh. As soon as he said, "We're gonna start over here on the driver's side and remove this one screw down in the bottom of the panel here", I knew I was out of my depth. This seems to be a brother-in-law type of operation. :-)

Copious thanks for taking time to produce this. I gave up one time trying to troubleshoot an old aftermarket Parrot rig that added Bluetooth to our 2008. Now I might start looking at a replacement head unit that adds a backup camera. And no getting upside-down on my shoulders in the floor like in the good old days.
Out of curiosity, do you have any experienced-based recommendations on head units that support the existing Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) system, have Bluetooth and Aux in, GPS and a backup camera? One review came up after your video finished, so I just learned that the beasts exist. Happiness through Technology! 120,000 miles and running like a sewing machine.
    Thanks again.
    Alan

3:38 There's actually a factory pry location on that panel all the way forward by the windshield. Rather than shoving a pry tool in the side or front.

it appears that there is a short between my steering wheel controls and the stereo. When I turn or try and use the steering wheel controls the radio starts going volume up and down and flipping stations or turning off. I do not need the steering wheel controls. Is there a way to just disconnect them from the back of the stereo?

Thanks, this looks easier than removing an 05 Malibu stereo. I have a santa fe now, im only getting backlight (no text) when it's cold. Is it a bad solder or does it need to get replaced? The radio works, just can't see information, so it becomes a guessing game.

  • @joewoodchuck3824

On the battery disconnect/reconnect for CD player reset, wouldn't fuse removal of the radio work just as well and be easier? I suppose this fuse is in the lower dash panel near the driver's left knee.

Hi, FCSR. I watched your video, very informative. My sister has a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe. The radio works, but it turns itself off and back on again. Doesn't seem to be any pattern. She brought it to a car stereo shop to have it replaced with a Pioneer unit for $450.00. They got the radio out and told her the amplifier was bad, and wanted another $150.00 to replace it. They claim the amplifier is in a separate chassis. Watched your video all the way through and it's easy enough for me to do, but I didn't see the separate amp. when you removed the radio. Any thoughts? We're in CT, and she wouldn't want to ship it to Fla. and have the car torn-up for all that time.

Thank you so much for this video. I just got a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe that has the base stereo and I want to purchase the Hyundai deck with the navigation system. My question for you is that if you have an idea if what I want to do is possible or do I need other type of harnesses for that uprated deck. I want to still be able to use the steering wheel buttons that's why I don't want to go with an after market car deck. Thanks and ones again thank you very much for this video.

the infinity system has a speaker on the top dash , the regular stereo has a tray with a flip top on it. that has to have the 2 screws out from the top as you have to remove the air vents. to get to the screws for the stereo.
