  • In this video we take a look at the current day operations of the former Boston & Maine Railroad Hillsboro branch which spans from Nashua, NH to Greenfield (Bennington), NH. Today the Hillsboro is served by two railroads, Pan Am Railways and the Milford-Bennington Railroad. Operations by PAR are operated once or twice a week up there branchline servicing Harcros Chemicals in Nashua, NH and Hendrix in Milford, NH. The Milford-Bennington Railroad is a shortline Railroad that “shuttles” heavy stone between the quarry in Milford (Granite State) and the quarry in Wilton, NH. M-B operations run Monday through Friday between the spring and late autumn seasons and can have a maximum of two to three runs a day between the two quarries.
Sit back, relax and grab your dog as we take a fantastic journey on this long lasting rail line!

Enjoyed the video, but intrigued by the MBTA train. Any idea where that was to/from? Thanks

The first five plus minutes do not show traffic on the Hillsborough Branch.

Yes I know, those clips were “openings” on the Northern Mainline which the Hillsboro branches off of.

At this grade crossing, on NH Route 31, starting after 8:18,, is the one that I have commented on way back when I was a very young child, in other's video clips (pertaining to the MBRX here) about seeing the crossing signals being like that wig-wag type that last stood next to NH Route 101, where many railroad enthusiasts have seen it (before they took it down and closed the crossing). It was more than a single signal, like the one alongside NH Route 101, nearby the Market Basket.

I remember the wig wag from 1979 when it shorted and was in full swing without a train in a snow storm. I went to HS up the hill from Wilton.

Unless something has changed recently PAR goes as far as to the Wilton, NH depot, for the reason they need to run around their train for their return trip. The last customer on the line is supposedly Hendrix Wire and Cable, next to Hitchner's, alongside NH Route 101A.
