- The hospital, which was designed by James Bell and James Barry Farrell in the Italianate style, opened as the 'Enniscorthy District Lunatic Asylum for the Insane Poor of Mind' in 1868. When completed, the hospital accommodated 70 patients, mainly from Co Wexford. Within a short time, the numbers had climbed to 280 after patients were moved there from a range of prisons and asylums around the country. By 1915, the numbers had peaked at 570 patients - as well as 350 staff - because of the arrival of casualties from the Great War.
It became Enniscorthy Mental Hospital in the 1920s and went on to become St. Senan's Hospital in the 1950s. After the introduction of deinstitutionalisation in the late 1980s the hospital went into a period of decline and closed completely in 2015. In 2017 the building was offered for sale at a guiding price of €780,000.

Glad you enjoyed it
Nice video, cool building. I used to drive past it twice a day and never knew it was there! I suppose it will be pulled down and the site developed :(
I dont think they will pull it down - apparently its a protected building etc. And I read somewhere they intend to repurpose it for apartments.
Haunted hospital in Ireland. Might be a good place for an upcoming Halloween celebration :) 👻

Very interesting video and building is that a school
it used to be a mental hospital, closed many years ago.
@@ireland_from_air good video sir🙏 all of these mental asylum hospital buildings were built and designed by highly skilled people at the time early to mid 1800s they were works of art,we will never see buildings like these again. this hospital only closed its doors in 2015.
