I’m sixteen and have grown up with this song. Me and my dad went fishing a few days ago and it came on the radio. Even though I’ve heard it my whole life I replayed it on my own since the classics are stories and I fell in love with it.
This was when Country was Country. I miss those days and I certainly miss the heart touching country ballads. Just makes me so sad. We have lost so many of our “Traditional Country Singers “ and sadly what they consider to be Country today is garbage.
Hi Daryl, I am African. I love hip hop. I love reggae. I love country. This song is a masterpiece and i literally cried listening. But truth is times they are a-changing. I grew up listening to pops playing these lovely song. There are some new guys around that make awesone country music. But the nostalgia we have can prevent us from enjoying them. Its same in hip hop, reggae, even afro beat. Lets give the new guys a chance.
@@itatreeneetee I agree with you Ita. 20 or 30 years from now there will be oldtimers saying the same things about how much they miss the music of today. It's a repeating cycle without a doubt. I will always be giving the new guys and girls a chance because I find there are some truly great singers out there. I love Old Country myself but still make room for other kinds of music to get in. I follow the modern duo called First Aid Kit and think they are really good. Then there is a large group of youngsters from Norway who started out in 2014 and they do Bluegrass which is amazing to hear. They are on UA-cam and they are called Hayde Blue Grass Orchestra, their cover of the traditional song Wayfaring Stranger is superb. Good to meet you.
My husband passed away a little over a week ago on the 24th. He was only 34 years old. This was our song. I'm so glad I was able to fine this. I don't think anything could make me feel any better right now.
Soo sorry about your husband. I lost my wife in 2005.she had a heart attack at 38 yrs old. You never get over it,but we must keep living. I know we ll see them again someday. When we had been married about two years, this song came out. I fell in love with it. We didn't have the money to buy frivolous things like albums but one day my wonderful, generous husband walked through the door with this album for me. This song reminds me of how life used to be. My mom passed away in 1994 from cancer at the age of 51, the same age as i am right now. It reminds me of her and seeing the frost out on the pumpkins when she was here. My childhood. This song makes me cry because i remember what i was, and those feelings i can't let go of from that time period in my life. The hard thing is, is that i won't get back that time to make changes within myself. It makes me cry because those feelings over-rush me as if i was still that younger version of myself that needed my mother. I still need my mother so much, but she's been gone for 24 years now.
My granny and pawpaw used to sing this together. I remember playing it for them many of times after I downloaded it from Napster for papaw, lol. Hearing this song really takes me back to then, and it really puts a smile on my face... Good times! I miss ya Granny...

I grew up on classic country (much of it from before my time) thanks to my parents, and grandparents. I’m 31 now. So glad that I did. I moved away from it eventually but still always loved and played it from time to time. Obviously I still do. Music is so bad now that I appreciate this stuff even more now. Plus all of the wonderful childhood memories. I miss this. When music had feeling still. This is also my favorite classic country song of all time.

Both great songs, but one of them (this one) is about people who decided to love other people, despite their faults, while the other classic describes what it is like to refuse to love anybody except the first choice. that was my nick name and I had Cal's autograph at a lil café called Charles' dinner in Johnson city Tx where my mama waited on him and his band he signed the whole album to all us 7 kids with love and admiration of my beautiful mama, Mona. What a great guy.

I remember hearing this as a kid. That part about death like pain and made me reconsider ever having children. Guess it must have forgot about that song because I have four kids. But it reminds me so much of my childhood. Old country songs like that make me miss my parents so much. And all the people I used to know.
This is the kind of music my daddy raised me on. I remember riding in the semi with my step dad too.. during the summer singing along to almost every song we knew. I can remember riding in the truck with my Pah-Paw and listening to John Conlee, Cal Smith, Ferlin Husky, George Jones, Webb Peirce, Ray Price, Charlie Pride and many many more. I would have to agree with Patrick Saxon when he says they just don't make music like this anymore. I love it. Don't get me wrong, I like alot of the new country and alot of rock ranging from the 50's and on up. I just love music in general, but if I had to pick a genre and stick with it... I'd have to pick good ole country music from the 40's and into the 80's. I am a big fan of Johnny Cash (Cry, Cry, Cry and One Piece At A Time) John Anderson (Swingin, Straight Tequila Night and Seminole Wind), John Conlee (Too many to name) and my Pah-Paw's ultimate favorite- George Jones (White Lightin') Good memories. I miss my Pah-Paw like nobody's business. :-(

We played with Johnny Paycheck together and people like Jack Green and many others the Jordanaires very often JD Sumner and the stamps quartet etc. Walter wrote the song called girl on a billboard by Del Reeves and produced him too.

grew up in Hendersonville and went to Hawkins junior high with Calvin Jr. used to spend weekends at their house camping out. Cal was always on the road and we were boys being boys. Cal and especially his wife were so wonderful to me. how lucky i was to know someone of his stature. Still love the Man and his music 40 years+ later. RIP!

that was my nick name and I had Cal's autograph at a lil café called Charles' dinner in Johnson city Tx where my mama waited on him and his band he signed the whole album to all us 7 kids with love and admiration of my beautiful mama, Mona. What a great guy.

I used to sing this to my papa he’s gone now but man he was a wonderful man we may have not got along very well but we sure as hell loved each other he had served in Vietnam so I loved his storys he sadly passed about 3 years ago😭 Love You Papa!♥️
This is one of my Mom's favorite songs and I lost her 8 years ago.
I remember hearing this as a kid. That part about death like pain and made me reconsider ever having children.

This is the kind of music my daddy raised me on. I remember riding in the semi with my step dad too.. during the summer singing along to almost every song we knew. I can remember riding in the truck with my Pah-Paw and listening to John Conlee, Cal Smith, Ferlin Husky, George Jones, Webb Peirce, Ray Price, Charlie Pride and many many more. I would have to agree with Patrick Saxon when he says they just don't make music like this anymore. I love it. Don't get me wrong, I like alot of the new country and alot of rock ranging from the 50's and on up. I just love music in general, but if I had to pick a genre and stick with it... I'd have to pick good ole country music from the 40's and into the 80's. I am a big fan of Johnny Cash (Cry, Cry, Cry and One Piece At A Time) John Anderson (Swingin, Straight Tequila Night and Seminole Wind), John Conlee (Too many to name) and my Pah-Paw's ultimate favorite- George Jones (White Lightin') Good memories. I miss my Pah-Paw like nobody's business. :-(

We played with Johnny Paycheck together and people like Jack Green and many others the Jordanaires very often JD Sumner and the stamps quartet etc. Walter wrote the song called girl on a billboard by Del Reeves and produced him too.
This was one of my Dad's favorite songs and would always have my husband (at the time) when he was a DJ at WIVK in Knoxville to play it for him, seemed like every night.... Dad is gone now, almost four years ago ,,,,,,,the frost is gone now from the "Pumpkin"..... Cal was such a talented singer......

Though this song is making me cry as he used to sing this to me and my mom when they were still together. I was really little but I understood the song. And i felt happy every time he sang it. I love my dad and miss him so much. He's not passed but we're miles apart he's back home in South Carolina and I'm in Upper Michigan. He made me who i am.

grew up in Hendersonville and went to Hawkins junior high with Calvin Jr. used to spend weekends at their house camping out. Cal was always on the road and we were boys being boys. Cal and especially his wife were so wonderful to me. how lucky i was to know someone of his stature. Still love the Man and his music 40 years+ later. RIP!
