    Any improvement compare to the old doctrine of "weeding out the weak" mentality is probably the best way. I done my basic at Bassingbourn Queens Division in the mid 80s, I suppose it did prepare me for what's to come but while there it was utter hell.

    Thanks, this is interesting to hear as my daughter is one week in to training at Pirbright. It sounds like they have started this already there. She has spent the first week doing a lot of lessons and I know she spent the bulk of Sunday doing online lessons, which I was quite surprised to hear about. We had a family briefing when we dropped her off and they used the soldier academy logo for that. They also have 2 long weekends at home now, instead of one, the first one 4 weeks in, so the time period until the pass off parade is still 14 weeks, with the long weekends added on.

    I've just left the raf, for a few reasons but i know one thing its not fair the inconsistency with the shooting test. Its now changing so instead of groupings you just have to hit the target. Hardly fair the standards drop and others had to do a harder test. Also that was the problem for us if you got relfighted different flight staff would allow declarations were some wouldn't. I did pass this feedback on. But it's good to see the army are taking note.
    But yea anyways still love your videos 💕

    So with this will they be lowering the infantry standards to support arms standards or raising the support arms to infantry standard during these 13 weeks?
    And where would the Paras be situated in this ad they have to have a higher level of fitness and end up doing certain exercises/fitness tests earlier on in training due to p-coy…

    • @MilitaryFitness
      @MilitaryFitness  4 місяці тому

      That is initial trade training after basic

    • @barryalexander2909
      @barryalexander2909 4 місяці тому

      At the end of the entire training pathway, (Initial Trade Training) infantry will be required to meet the Ground Close Combat Role Fitness Test (Soldier). Non-Ground Close Combat soldiers complete a slightly different set of tests to a standard set by their cap badge. Within the Non-GCC groups, the standard varies depending on role. The challenge comes with the vast difference in ITT (phase 2 in old money) training pipeline length - the shortest is just a few weeks, the longest is three years for some AMS trades that do a Bachelors Degree for their ITT. Para output standard remains passing the P Company tests as far as I am aware.

Sounds like a admin nightmare I’m going for basic again (rejoining) think I’ll give career’s a ring to get more info the ipad learning is a little concerning I’m more of a hands on guy 😂 seems like a step in the right direction just hope it works out well

    Very ironic. The US Army had very short Basic Training beginning after the WWII which was 8 weeks just Basic Training then the soldier went on to his Military Occupation Skill School. This went on till the mid 1990s which went on to 10 weeks like right now. I remember watching a British TV show called Bad Lads which British juvenile delinquents were put through a few weeks of Post WWII 1950s National Service style Basic Training. From the records it was 6-8 weeks for British Army National Service Basic Training. The US Marines is 13 weeks of Boot Camp just to beat their cult like mentality into their recruits. Would the UK bring back National Service in the future?

    • @MilitaryFitness
      @MilitaryFitness  4 місяці тому +1

      I think it would take a lot to bring back national service

    • @reddevilparatrooper
      @reddevilparatrooper 4 місяці тому +1

      @@MilitaryFitness I would agree with your opinion because back in 2008 when I came back from my 2nd combat tour in Iraq, the US Army was lacking soldiers for combat deployments. There was even talk by the US Congress activating the Draft or Selective Service to fill the US Army. Few Army recruiters even committed suicide because their chain of command told them that they were failures and gave them bad NCO reports which will ruin their careers and relieve the NCO of duty. One of my good soldier who became a recruiter told me how this was happening Army wide even after the US pull out of Iraq in 2012. My soldier would call me three times each week telling me how he was depressed at his job. In your country I think that the voting public would be very against the idea of bringing back National Service.

    i have a question, what does the British army consider as a long term relationship (not married). because i am looking to join but i would like my girlfriend to come with me to catterick. we have been together for a year.

    • @MilitaryFitness
      @MilitaryFitness  4 місяці тому +2

      You would need a child or common law marriage

    • @barryalexander2909
      @barryalexander2909 4 місяці тому +2

      You are only able to apply for housing once you have completed BT and ITT and have been assigned to a unit. Once you are in ITT ensure that you have your Long Term relationship registered on JPA (the Defence HR Admin system). You will need to provide suitable evidence of the LTR such as shared utility or council tax bill from a flat or house that you have lived together in (or evidence of a child together, or forthcoming birth of a child).
      You must note that you are eligible for housing, not entitled and you might not get a house close to your unit. If you want your g/f to be with you at Catterick, and she wants to be there, the best option would be for her to move to the area, however rental properties are few and far between in the Garrison, there is not much work in the town without heading a bit further afield to Darlington or Northallerton. You will also be very busy and have little down-time. There is also not a lot to do in the Garrison. I'm an old fart so it suits me - running, dog walking and a cup of tea in front of the telly is about as rock and roll as I get nowadays , but Catterick is hardly bright lights and big city with a thriving club scene.
      My daughter fell pregnant weeks before her ex-partner went to Basic Training at ITC Catterick. They were able to move into a married quarter based on LTR within weeks of the baby being born. On arrival at his Battalion, he was straight onto Pre-Deployment Training for Estonia and they were largely separated for the next 8-9 months. After returning and some leave, he was back into Battalion life and the relationship broke up. They had been together for 4 years and have a child together.
      I would strongly recommend that your g/f stays put - the separation will either make or break the relationship. If you are still together after training, get to your first unit and give it a little time before applying for housing. You are both young and things can change, plus new soldiers are generally encouraged to live in the block for a while to settle into life as a trained soldier in a Battalion and to forge bonds with your new platoon and wider Company - you may feel that you miss out on that fun and formative period of your Army career.
      Joining the Army, going through training and becoming a soldier is a life changing experience, and you won't see the change in yourself, but she will, and might not cope well with that change. You might get into training and decide that it's not for you, even though your heart is set on it now.
      I met my wife after ten years of service and we have now been together for 20 years and married for 19. I don't want to wee on your chips, but it takes a very special person to be a soldier's wife or girlfriend and most women simply aren't cut out for it.
      Apologies for such a long reply.

    • @barryalexander2909
      @barryalexander2909 4 місяці тому +1

      Everyone has the same test, but needs to meet a different standard for the capbadge they are joining. The predictor tests indicate that a potential recruit has the ability to meet the output standard at the end of the training pipeline. The research undertaken indicates that there is a 'normalising effect over the course of the training - the 'average' recruits make steady improvements, the less fit recruits make the most improvements to normalise to the average while the fittest recruits (track athletes, elite middle distance runners etc) actually decondition slightly (but not too much. The important thing is to not slack off after assessment centre - try to maintain or improve - the stronger you are, the less likely you will be to get injured. The modern Army PT is geared to strengthening the chassis through developing the movement patterns and building a strong aerobic engine. Good luck, it's very different from when I joined thirty years ago, but will still be hard work and hopefully fun. You will make lifelong friends.
