I recently became a SAHM which halved our income and also made me care a lot less about my curls because I’m home so much! Messy bun 24/7…. So I’m excited to try these and not feel like I’m “wasting” the good stuff when I’m home so much!
Awe I am so glad this helped you! And I totally get doing the messy bun 24/7 #momlife
Good to know that the cheap stuff is good stuff. Thanks Courtney!
Absolutely! Defiantly exciting!
I feel like maybe since your hair is longer now you may be needing more gel now! Beautiful results 😍
For sure!!!
Thanks Courtney! Good reminder that decent products can be found at many price points!
Absolutely!
Courtney did you know dollar tree also has satin feel pillowcases as well as microfiber hair towels with button closure!
I purchased one of the microfiber hair towels from the dollar tree and, honestly, I wouldn't recommend them. They do not absorb the water at all. The first time I tried one, I was scrunching the water from my hair and it was literally running out of the other side of the towel. Also, they're tiny! My hair is shoulder length and no way could i wrap or plop my hair with it... Far too small. On the plus side, they're a great reusable alternative to paper towels for cleaning mirrors and windows! I've purchased a couple more just for that purpose.
@@ambersmith1697 i haven’t opened it yet but so good to know
your hair has gotten super long! Whar are your hair growth secrets? Looks amazing!
I’ve been to the Dollar Tree and I always pick up a “blue” gel, and I like Suave Coconut conditioner. But, I had no idea that Daily Defense shampoo was cig friendly. I’ll definitely pick that up next time I go. Thanks for sharing! ❤️🙏
On my list too... I'm curious! Plus argan oil products always smell SO good!
Absolutely!
Yes!
I am super excited to try these! The LA looks is an OG fave! I do double apply the LaLooks.
Hey Courtney!! I rarely comment, but I’ve been following you for sometime now even though I have very different hair (I have tight coily, kinky curls) - I find your videos so informative!! This video in particular was so entertaining and so much fun! Thanks for sharing!! 💕
Awe thank you! This means so much!
I keep going back to that conditioner! You could have done mousse-gel-mousse for more hold as well! My hair seems to love that
Yes, true!
I use LA blue gel, but noticed that I have to wash on day 3 because it builds up on my fine hair. Those 3 days my curls are well defined. I think it has protein so I use a leave in with no protein. I would definitely recommend more gel and it will give you more hold.
Thats a good balance. And yes I think I will definitely try more!
Were you refreshing with it as well?
Oh my goodness, your hair is getting long!!! Almost as long as mine. We have different types of waves/curls than each other, but wow... you are closing in on some serious mermaid hair!!! 😍
Eek thank you! 🥰🧜♀️🧜
I have a tighter curl pattern than Courtney (3a/3b with a few 3c), but I use Dollar Tree's Shea Solutions Leave-in Conditioner. It is my most favorite leave-in. It helps my curls clump and is a great detangler. I also love the VO5 Pomegranate Conditioner and VO5 Kiwi Lime Squeeze Clarifying Shampoo. The VO5 Strawberries and Cream shampoo and conditioner have a little protein in them, which is great for my hair. All are CG friendly, except the shampoos, but I also don't completely follow CG.
Ohh I'll have to look for those!
Just commenting to say, YOUR HAIR IS GETTING SO LONG! 😍 Looking more mermaid dreams with each video!
Praying for you friend, I hope your family is doing well 🙏❤️
Thank you so so much! 🙏🤗🥰
Courtney, you have to try the Salon Selectives Curl Control Curl Stretch Cream. It's a sulfate free leave-in cream, and it is absolutely my favorite product for my hair. I buy four or five at a time when I shop at Dollar Tree!
Does anybody else experience flaking with the gel?
Thanks for sharing the products you found at Dollar Tree. Proof if on a tight budget, high end products can be skipped and curls are achievable. Bonus the products left your hair feeling so soft. Do agree, more product might have helped the curls be more defined. Also like the "OG" status of some of the products. 😀
What is OG?
"Orginal" 🥰 So, this is an "original" curly girl favorite product.
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney thanks
It originally meant “original gangster”, meaning the original rappers, but now it’s been adopted to refer to anything “old school”.
I’m excited to try these. I’m on disability and with everything going up I can’t afford to get the good stuff. I Will new looking to see if I can find anymore curly hair products at &Dollar Tree❤❤
It really is so tough right now! 😵💫And thankfully there are more budget-friendly wavy/curly hair-friendly products available.
Might be a good time to try homemade flaxseed gel. Its cheap, fantastic for the hair and can be used as a one and done styled or layered under a stronger hold gel if needed. Some even use it like a conditioning hair mask!
My local DT stores carry this Silkience Pro Formula Damage Repair conditioner that is now an HG rinse-out for me. It's a purple liter size bottle. It does have the "itchy M's," but it contains hydrolyzed wheat and soy proteins, plus a fatty alcohol and a little bit of olive and aloe. And it's a LITER. For $1.25! For my protein-hungry hair, it's fantastic. I bought 3 bottles on my last trip.
I'll keep my out for that one! Wow a liter! 🤯 I can see why you grabbed 3!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney I just found it on Amazon too, but it's $12 🤯
Have you ever tried gel & hairspray together? I used to do that back in the day when I had long hair & *really* wanted to have curl definition & hold. I would put the gel in and then spray my still wet hair with hairspray. The cast on it was crazy but I would gently break it with my fingers & then scrunch it out. My hair felt soft & touchable without any frizz and it was super curly.
I will look into it!
I have been watching you for a few years now and I must say your hair is gorgeous! It is so much longer now than it was at one time though so I am thinking that the weight is really starting to pull more of your curl out. That is how mine gets. Do you have alot of layers cut into your hair? I am a hairdresser but I will use ANY product if it works! :) You don't have to only buy salon products to get good results and I love that you show that in your videos. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, I do believe it is somewhat being pulled down by the weight! And thank you so much!
I would personally never use a shampoo with that C14-16 olefin sulfonate. It is very harsh and drying. You're much better off with a mild sulfate like sodium laureth sulfate.
Yeah, I totally understand! Some peoples hair really doesn’t like that surfactant. My hair personally loves it! I do have very fine, low, porosity, oily hair. I don’t think this surfactant works well for people with coarse or dryer hair.
That totally makes sense. My sisters hair loves that ingredient and its fine and oily. My Hair is coarse and nope, its too drying on me!
I use the LA Looks gel and am very happy with it. I for sure use at least as much as you did for my barely medium length/low density hair. I also us the HASK conditioner packets.
Do you follow the CGM? I like HASK products and have been trying to find one of the little Conditioner/ hair mask packets that is CGM approved bu no luck as of yet. Please comment and share which one if you have found one that's approved.
@@ambersmith1697 yes they are CGM friendly
I've used moisturizing foams in place of a curl cream before! The Doux texture foam (something like that) is really moisturizing & works great to define!
Makes so much sense! You get the best of both worlds. I'll look at that one!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney I checked the bottle when I got home. It's the Doux mousse def texture foam. They also make this gel called pop lock 5 day curl glaze (they're not kidding lol) & I applied a normal amount & holy concrete Batman! I was terrified. Actually came out pretty nice, but I couldn't get the crunch fully out of my hair for a couple of days. My day 4 hair was INCREDIBLE though! One of my fav hair days EVER!
I just want to make you aware that the LA Looks Gel has some ingredients they call the itchy Ms, and it caused the worst itching I've ever experienced. Also, not everyone has this reaction.
I use this gel and fortunately do not have that reaction. But I have used the Dove amplified gel and I thought I would scratch til I bled, lol! I have no idea if it has any of those itchy m’s though.
sorry you didn't like the LA looks gel that my favorite gel so far, I have the curlsmith souffle and my hair doesn't like it too much it gives me frizzy hair with the LA looks I get virtually no frizz in my high humidity daily
Interesting! I would say I probably need to play around with it more, including use a little more of it.
I find I have to use more of that gel because my hair just drinks it up. It's got a good amount of protein so that's my theory.
Yes! There are certain gels my hair does this with!
I've been buying my L.A. Looks sport gel from DT for about 2 years now, very affordable and a good sized tube. I also get a Salon Selectives mousse there, it's a plumping formula, that works well with my hair. Love being able to get some inexpensive items to offset the pricier products in my routine.
Absolutely!!! I am all for budget friendly!
I have that gel. Ive used it literally forever but it never occured to me to look at the ingredients because it always worked on my hair. I will habe to hit my dollar tree now to see whats there. I spend so much money on shampoo and conditioner. Still habent found a favorite yet
🤗🤗🤗
I've had a tube of the LA Looks blue gel sitting in my bathroom for 6 months and hadn't tried it. When I saw this video I thought "hmmmm... now is as good a time as any." I used a huge dollop of the gel (layered over Bounce Curl Clump&Define cream and Camille Rose Curl Maker) and I have to say that it gave me the best gel cast of any other Gels that's I've tried. I have a really hard time getting my fine, medium density hair to hold any sort of style longer than an hour. Here's to hoping the hard crunchy gel cast equals stronger, longer hold! I haven't sotc yet so we'll see.. lol
Ohhh how did it go! Sounds like a good combo!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney Actually turned out to be one of my best wash days to date! I think I found a new, super cheap favorite gel!
Oh my gosh your hair has gotten so long! Definitely mermaid hair!!!
Thank you!
That conditioner contains MCI/MI and they are really high on the ingredient list. These preservatives have been popping up since parabens became demonized. MCI/MI have been documented to cause chemical burns, to the extent that they are not even allowed in leave-in products, only rinse-out. All this to say, I think it would be safer to use this as a traditional conditioner on the lengths rather than as a cowash. Personally I wouldn’t use it at all (or the shampoo which also has MCI/MI). There are safer options at this price point.
If there are safer options for $1.25, what do you suggest? If you don’t like, either the shampoo or conditioner, what are your recommendations for products at this price point that do not contain the itchy M‘s? I know I didn’t see any products at my dollar tree that did not contain MCI/MI. Every product I looked at had that ingredient in it.
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney honestly Courtney I am probably out of touch with the prices these days because they’ve gone up but I’ve been using medicated products so I don’t do as much browsing as I used to. I’m looking around and I do think there is a significant jump in quality when you go from $1 to $2-3. I know that’s double but hopefully most people can spend a little extra to avoid the potentially irritating ingredients. I know I have used Suave clarifying shampoo in the past which I think was $2 for a pretty big bottle. In a pinch I would use the VO5 conditioner on my lengths but not my scalp.
I love the Salon Selectives mousse.
A lot of people are saying they love it!
Those results are stunning! It looks so soft and it is soooooo long! Gorgeous, sis! Xoxo Wonderful video! Xo
Thank you!!!
Thank you for this video! Folks are sleepin on The Dollar tree. That super look gel is amazing!
The LA Looks blue gel is the very first CG gel I ever used. I still use it sometimes now with great results.
It's awesome when a budget friendly product can be a go-to!
Does anybody experience flaking with the gel?
Youre adorable ❤
Awe, thank you!
I loved that gel for years and years, but definitely had to use a lot. Now my scalp doesn’t like it anymore (can’t tell if it’s baby #4 or if the water in the new house messed it up). I still miss that gel though! So inexpensive, so even needing to use more it was still a great deal.
Ah that's a bummer! It's hard when our bodies/environment changes.
But yes, even using more its still a great deal!
Wow this was an amazing video thanks for all of your hard work and wonderful videos have a great day
Awe thank you!!!😊
What didn't you like about the matching conditioner to the shampoo?
The ends of your hair May need different care vs your scalp.
VO5 changed their formula to add the unidentified alcohol to all their conditioners. Probably about two years ago. The strict groups say that the new formula is not CG safe. Not sure why VO5 did that!
Ah that makes sense! And why only to that scent??? lol
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney I think it’s all the scents! But a lot of people still find the old formulas on shelves.
Great video
Thank you!
I've used the VO5 conditioner and LA Looks gel before and after a few uses they made my scalp and face SOOO ITCHY! But they made my hair look nice enough.
I wonder too how these will be after multiple uses or a couple of months.
Ugh!!
Great video
How can you tell if you have enough products in hair
Really I tend to go off of how my hair feels. Clearly I didn’t do as good a job as I normally do. I should’ve grabbed more stylers for better hold.
Great to know this in the event that I’m a little bit tight budget wise I can grab these items. And keep them in my stash.
I’m glad is this video is encouraging and helpful to you!
💗💗
🥰🥰
Help. I need a new clarifying shampoo. I have been using Neutrogena anti resudue shampoo since forever. They have removed it from their product line and I have yet to find one that does a great job and without stripping my hair. Any recommendations? And no not that Suave clarifying that you used to recommend. Thanks.
Trader Joe’s has an awesome one. It’s their Tea Tree shampoo. Light and not striping. And just a bit over $5 bucks.
I think you still can the Neutrogena anti residue @ Amazon but I think it is going out, there are low in stocked.

Thank you Tamil. I will look at it next time I go.
@@simplycurlyde Thank you. I went and looked. Wow. $25 for a $8 shampoo. I wonder if shampoos have expiration dates? But thank you for looking. ☺
