  • Today we celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the Fox Demo Farms project! A decade ago, with funding support from the GLRI (Great Lakes Restoration Initiative), the NRCS and Brown County entered into a partnership with local farms in the Lower Fox watershed. The goal of the program was to learn how conservation practices could fit into a farming system in northeast Wisconsin and share those lessons with others. We are proud to say that as a result of a lot of hard work and vision, the demo farms concept has expanded both in Wisconsin and the Great Lakes region. There are currently seven demo farm networks in Wisconsin and networks in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana.
To the Fox Demo Farm farmers, thank you for taking a chance on this program and for being willing to learn and grow with us. Your dedication to conservation practices that improve soil health and water quality has literally helped change the landscape of Wisconsin.
To every farmer who has attended one of our events, talked with a neighbor about cover crops or no-till, who has reached out to county or NRCS staff to learn more, we thank you. The demo farms concept was meant to be shared and as we drive across the watershed, we see your hard work and commitment to conservation.
Thank you to the many agency and organizational partners who have helped make this project a reality. This has truly been a collaborative effort.
