- I traveled from Kingston Jamaica to Ocho Rios by bus (Knutsford Express. In Ochi, I had the worst Airbnb experience ever. I was not able to get inside the property. The host forgot to leave me the key to to the locks.
I lost a whole day of relaxing and content. I was stuck outside for more than 3 hours. An Airbnb nightmare. The last thing I want to do is give a bad review on an Airbnb, but I lost a whole day of enjoyment.
The property was very beautiful and I loved it. It was a very unfortunate situation. I chose to not show the door number because I think it was a mistake the host made. They did apologize and regret it happened. I still would recommend the property for stay. I only hope this mistake does not repeat.

Wow! The same thing happened to us at Columbus Heights. Booked, arrived. Rang owner, buthe failed to respond. Luckily, the staff were able to source another property on the complex.
If ever you're planning to visit again, I'd be happy to assist in sourcing airbnb from this end.
Wow, Iam hearing a few people had similar issues at Columbus Heights. Iam not sure if it's the same exact apartment but curious to know.
They are over charging you my brother. Someone should have pointed you to the local route taxis right outside of the Drax Hall Knutsford stop. The taxi heading towards Ochi would charge $500Jam or less and another $500 to go up the hill for the Skycastles Airbnb. The taxi( Uber) guy who wants to charge you $200 or $300US to Negril don't go for that. You should take the Knutsford express for $25 dollars to Negril and next time Ask different people for ways to get to places so you can see your options. Anyway, you live and learn, God bless you my brother.

Many one way plane tickets don’t cost that much depending on the location you’re flying out of in the U.S! Visitors have so many different options when it comes to destinations in the Caribbean. Jamaicans and Jamaican businesses must realize, whenever someone chooses to visit Jamaica it must be considered a privilege because they have so many different options and destinations to choose from. We can’t let unscrupulous individuals ruin the tourism sector because of selfish greed. I had a similar experience at that same location, I arrived and called but it took forever to locate the host, totally unacceptable! Visitors on vacation don’t have a day to loose when they are on vacation. I would encourage anyone with a similar experience to write reviews so other travelers can avoid this nasty behavior. Stop harboring and protecting unscrupulous people whose sole purpose is to destroy Jamaica’s tourism industry. You should be ashamed of yourself, maybe you are a scammer yourself 😮😮😮😮

This is unacceptable not the way to do business and you should get a refund the inconvenience. What if it was night the guest arrived and this happened. Horrible. I need to know the name of this airbnb so we don't make reservation with them😡 Did you check the reviews on the airbnb? If not, next time please check reviews they can be very helpful in deciding where to stay. This is certainly a nightmare.
It's a shame. I can feel your frustration. I would be pissed off. A bad reflection on other good business hosts. They should give you a free stay for a day/night. Simple said.
A free day or 2 would definitely make it less stressful for sure.

I stayed there at Columbus heights at the very top a couple years ago and it also took some time to get a hold of the host contact. Luckily I was staying for five nites tho, but when you’re hot and tired, it’s not fun.
The views of the cruise ships coming in over Xmas were amazing and stores and restaurants in close proximity, but walking up that hill 😮💨😮💨😮💨.
I hope that host compensates you fairly.

Columbus Heights. Stayed there once about 5 years ago. Nice view, nice rooms but checking was a challenge as well. Didn't have to wait that long. We had someone escort us to the room.
The air bnb needs to compensate you! That's horrible! I'm glad you got in.
They gave me back the money I spent on booking the other Airbnb, but nothing for this inconvenience.

When you're frustrated and have to walk in that HEAT up those HILLS...it's TEN TIMES AS FRUSTRATING.
Similar situation happened to me with Ivy's Cove in Whitehouse, Westmoreland, Jamaica.

I'm glad you showed that first Airbnb location cause I can't do all those stairs- so I will not be booking at that location.
Yes, it is uphill and a lot of steps to get there. So be aware. As I said, the place was nice. Just Customer service that specific day was not the best.
I go thru that Airbnb fuckery every time I go to Kingston. My plane comes in at night- the cabby can never find the address- the host never picks up the phone. I just go to a hotel- cause I know where it's at- sometimes the host live at the Airbnb and they got a bunch of dogs and they bark all night- sometimes there is no hot water/ running water/ no power/ no Internet
But you want full USD money. Stay at a hotel. Then airbnb want a cleaning fee- and some times the size of the place is a jail cell. Smh - I'm an older lady and I'm traumatized every time I go. I might need to travel other places😢 I'm glad you made this video- I thought it was only me having these problems with airbnb
Yeah, I have had some good luck with Airbnb, and because I travel solo most of the time, I do budget friendly Airbnb. I have been lucky to some great Airbnb over my travels, but every often I get something that messes up my plan. It is what it is. I just deal with it then keep moving to the next one. Agree that Hotel does make more sense depending on the trip.
Next time book the condos on Mahogony Beach in Ochi. Always stay there and free entry to the beach.

Next time you visit fisherman’s point. It’s close to everything you need. Name a few:- ocean11, margarita vill. Dave Lobster. All this walking distance.. last them 5 minutes.

It's not a hotel. These are individually owned condos built in the late 80s early 90's.

This is totally slacking on the Ochi Air B&B owner. How coud you treat guest like this.. you need to be refunded and for all this discomfort.. walking..
It completely messed up my time there. I only planned to be in Ochi for 2 days before continuing to Mobay. So this problem cost me a day of fun things I had planned.
All u gotta do was to. Find the front desk or ser people there and asked questions
No front desk to be seen. Even security couldn't help me. Only way in is to know the code to the lockbox.

Never use USD. Get a Monzo card put your money on it and pay in JMD when tapping your card. You can pay always take out some JMD from a cash point for tips etc.

I live in CT US. Ochi was pretty nice love it there. This Airbnb was the only inconvenience I encountered.

Use your credit card. Credit cards give a better exchange rate then the banks or cambios will give. Businesses will give the worst rate. Businesses will give anywhere from 125 -135, banks 140-145, credit cards 150. Ck with your credit card company. I'm Jamaican and always use credit cards.

I like walking the streets. My idea of a good trip is staying local as much as I can. I see no point in staying at 5 star resorts alone. 💯

I honestly don't think the host is bad, I saw the reviews are all very positive. This might have been just a one time issues. Unfortunately, it was with me.

My other option was booking another close by Airbnb, which I had already done. When I saw security, I was actually on my way down to get a taxi to go to a new place. Airbnb refunded me the money for the second booking after. .

Sorry u had this experience but u do ur research before going to JA. Simple things like how far are u from the main drag, access to food, etc. Better still, stay in a hotel!

You should have stayed at a luxurious all inclusive resort these places you've been staying at are extremely cheap and way below par
I travel, I explore iam not much of an all-inclusive resort vacation type person. I spend all my time outside exploring anyway. All inclusive resorts won't do me any good. Plus, I solo travel on a budget and my plan is to meet connect with more locals. Airbnb works best for that purpose.

He's Jamaican. Foreigners cannot drive taxi/uber in Jamaica. Many of the taximen, speak in an Americanized way. If your Jamaican , you can hear his Jamaican accent.

No. I stayed just the one day. Then went to a different Airbnb. I was not compensated for the inconvenience.
Where the hell are you going to drive for almost half an hour in a Uber for $5?!!! Come on now man! You ppl are too much!! It's time you ppl realize that Jamaica is no different from any other country! When I was in Orlando or Florida, I paid about the same or more to take me to the airport which was like 15-18 minutes away. And when I used the chartered taxis, it was like 65-70$. And why would you go to an airbnb without the code and unit number?

These boring restaurants. There are many other places that are opened until late. You could use a food delivery app or go into the town. Need a rental next time or a taxi to take you around.

I'm not sympathetic right now watching someone complain about AB&B and doing content expecting so much ease, and comfort after the massive destruction from Hurricane Beryl, in St Elizabeth and Westmoreland and other areas, while Ocho Rios may have miss the full effect, it still was impacted in other ways. I hear your opinion. Here is some context for you. I am not looking for sympathy, I record my experience traveling around different countries, good or bad, I share with those who are interested. This video was recorded in May. Way before the hurricane. During the hurricane, I was in Africa. My heart goes out to everyone affected. Big up Jamaica 🇯🇲 💯

The bus used to stop in the center of Echo Rios. Only five minutes from the Airbnb. They changed that a few years ago. $35 dollars??? No Sir. Thats robbery. If I know you was going there I would hook you up with a driver. He charged me only J$2000. If you are going to Montego Bay airport, there are several busses that can pick you up and take you to the airport. You call them 2 days before and make a reservation. They usually make pickups at every hotel. The bus will take you straight from Ocho Rios right to the airport. The fare is about US$35. You will share the bus with other people.
After watching the rest of your video where you walked down to the gate interacting with the workers I realised that there must be some changes because the office is close by the gate and the workers didn't direct you to the office. Last time I stayed there was 2019.

It’s actually ‘Ocho Rios’ which is Spanish for ‘Eight Rivers’. There’s no ‘s’ after Ocho - so it’s not ‘Ochos’.
Yeah, I realized that, and I still said it wrong multi times. To avoid this, I started saying Ochi instead. 🤣🤣🤣
