Dairy Farmers Of The Mid-Atlantic Marketing Area- Everything about this commercial is just so relaxing to me. From the calm music being played, to the overall comforting atmosphere throughout.
Starman…Definitely an underrated film, and one of John Carpenter’s best. The movie didn’t get the attention it deserved back then, but has gotten a loyal following over the years. The story goes that in the early 80s, Spielberg was working on a horror film about aliens called Night Skies at Columbia Pictures. However, during development, he lost interest in the idea and wanted to go in a different and more kid friendly direction with his alien movie. This became the idea for E.T. When he told the studio about his new idea, they thought it was too similar to Starman, which they were developing at the same time, so they passed on it. As for Night Skies, some of the ideas in the film (about a house being attacked by aliens) wound up in his script for the original Poltergeist.
I love how the Ernie Anderson voiceover for The Night They Saved Christmas is so heart-attack intense it's like something Frank Cross would have put together in Scrooged.
AT&T- “No Telephones were harmed in the making of this commercial. They were well compensated for their time and got to hang out with their friends at the telephone store.”
Thanks for the link to the "Million Dollar Movie" at the beginning! 70s horror/disaster films are my thing. I'll have to see that... right after I get that Action News ad music out of my head from the end!
Prego Spaghetti Sauce- Comparing the packaging design at 7:55 to the design they have nowadays, I would say that the packaging design they had at this time period was a lot more creative.
Interestingly, according to Genesee’s official website, the 12-Horse Ale has returned for a limited time. Unfortunately, it’s not available within a 100-mile where I live.
9:53- It seems that the flower design was ubiquitous in the 80s. I believe my parents still have some of those Corningware serving dishes to this day. They had the Visions cookware too.
13:16 In sports, the Islanders beat the Flyers 6-2. The Flyers would get their revenge in the playoffs, ending the Islanders' season in the second round, four games to one.
It's always a really sad turn when the day comes where they've given up homemade cooking and from now on will be spitefully just dumping things out of a jar.
04:50 Street Hawk....continuing the 80s tradition of action series' with a vehicle prominently featured, in this case a Honda motorcycle. Another forgotten vehicle series was Stingray that featured a 1966 Corvette Stingray Ray
The Night They Saved Christmas-this was actually a good movie Starman-just something about the final shot..any other director wouldve used a elaborate sequence of the UFO going into space Burger King Doubles-with Janet Hubert Street Hawk-i bet had this continued they probably would've introduced a recurring character with a more advanced version of SH,but would be a villain..and most likely female WPVI Action News Chopper 6-looks like it could be a show of it's own"..meet the crew of Chopper Six..a high-flying new drama coming to ABC!" Prego Spaghetti Sauce-might want to throw that out and open the other jar after all that double dipping 🤮 Genesee 12 Horse Ale-not made from horses thankfully..

I wish we could go back to more simpler times like the 1980s ! 😢
You're not alone, buddy...
12:46 What a charming little ad! The song is catchy as well.

10:42 - “Why do kids love them?” 7-year-old me could give a million reasons that Christmas…
Aunt Viv in a Burger King commercial!
12:46 - This sounds more like a sitcom theme than a news promo…
Starman is one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s great to see the TV spot here.

Wonderful set, per usual! Well done.
