Hey no disrespect umm... just a little thing to maybe have a look at is,.. top end fisherman choke up on the rod hand placement up high not on the reel and bent knee's to absorb the the frate trains strong lifts and go hard on the way down trying to get 5 to 6 turns we palm our reals to add extra drag cause they run for bombies the longer the fish is in the water equals only one thing ..sharked..u can tell by the way a fish runs if sharks are on him that's why we pump them up otherwise u have 2 move locations...nice clips keep ya rods bent ✌🏼
None taken mate but did you actually watch the whole vid or just the first 5 minutes cos you definitely see my hand as far up on the grip as I can go and definitely palm the spool when the shark shows up to try and stop the fish and turn it. The hand right up on the grip allows max pressure through the rod and a straight arm saves the bicep for prolonged dragged out fights where necessary I’m all over this but for short dogged battles around the boat as long as you trust your grip you can still put as much hurt on the fish as need be. I did live in FNQ for nearly 5 years and location doesn’t usually dictate this fighting style but all good mate.
When we first started doing boys trips up there in 2005 we very rarely got sharked, we got done by grouper more than sharks but now they are absolutely everywhere up there. From the reefs to up the creeks mate it’s crazy.
Over regulations on sharks mate, sharks are basically protected and left unchecked when every other fish is kept in check with size and bag limit regulations. Shark populations are out of control compared to the rest of the oceans biomass and anglers are the first to see the problem unfortunately donating the majority of our catch to them.
@@LiamFitzpatrick yes I get that, it might be a problem until changes are made, those sharks will associate boats with struggling prey and hang around them, I watch a lot of fishing videos and so many others are losing their fish too. Thanks for answering comments, enjoying the videos 🎣
Love the content Liam, heading up to Hinchy September this year, see you went to a different jig heads after some straitened, what did you go to.? Size and weight...going to use 5 and 7 inch baits. Cheers
All 1oz but the 5/0 in the TT Headlockz range were the ones that straightened. Their 7/0 is stronger and the big one I went to is their 12/0 SL Saltwater one from memory. Nitro do a solid 1oz 5/0 and the new BKK do a solid 1oz 6/0. All my Sugar Loader and wrecks and channel work with 7 inch baits is done with 1oz with 50lb braid minimum and 50lb leaders.
About 20 years ago I spent a couple of days fishing from a local guides boat just off the end of the Lucinda jetty. We were mainly targeting big Fingermark using live bait and we got a couple of beauties. However, my lasting memory of the trip is hooking a big Queenfish on a popper but about half way through the fight one of the enormous resident Queensland Grouper grabbed it and powered back towards the jetty. I was using 80lb braid and pointed the rod straight at the Grouper and quickly tightened up the drag on my overhead reel as much as possible. The line went slack so I wound it back thinking the line had snapped. I was wrong - one of the 4x strong hooks on my popper had straightened due to the unstoppable power of the big grouper.
Yep we’ve had some big fingers get eaten by those grouper over the years mate. We got one back once and tried to eat it but it was terrible, lactic acid or stress killed the flesh.
I was up there fishing last November. There was a couple of dudes spearing in that exact spot if you can believe that. Lunatics in my book. There are a lot of unstoppables living around that jetty.
Mate I can try do something like that. I do mention what the moon phase and wind and stuffs doing in my vids. If you watch enough you’ll pink op on the phase and if the fishing is good mate.

I gotta tell ya, not being a know it all, Wrapping your hand around the line testing your drag whilst the lures on the drop, will cost you dearly one day.
@@LiamFitzpatrick ok ,I’m glad you are aware now. Thanks for the reply and great fishing. I hung out with the Lucinda crew back in 98, there used to be some crazy locals there back then. They used to drag tri nets in tinnys along the beach, got in heaps of fights and a few 3s with some local girls,it was a crazy place.
Hey mate, I have seen a few of your videos in Hinchinbrook, I am just wondering what is the lowest tide you would leave the marine as it is full of mud and I am going fishing Hinchinbrook this Thursday and it will be my first time so I'm just not to sure what is the best tide to go on. thanks mate, love your vids
Dude I’ve got four Jigs rolls full and 6 jig combos. I tried the jig this session but no action so I left it out. Trust me I know how effective jigging is. It’s the shit.
Weather was against the whole trip mate. We braved one more session on the loader after the waves turned us back from the wreck attempt and caught nothing. Water was dirty by then after 300mm of rain, it was still coming down and the swell was up. Some trips just aren’t meant to be mate.
I’m running 50lb mate. People will argue it’s pretty light but I’ve fished long enough and side by side people running heavier to know what gets the bites. I’d rather get 5 bites to their 1 and lose every now and then than not get the bites to begin with.
Duuuuude. Dont be chucking out your plastic then wraping your braid around your hand to check the drag!!!!! Faaaark i cringed when i saw that. You are in tropical waters, anything could eat that sinking plastic and scream off. How do you think your hand would fare against the braid being ripped by some monster fish?!?!?! Just dont wanna see ya lose your fingers mate! Otherwise... keep up the good work!

Got a few good fish despite the place being so sharky, its beautiful up that area.

Jesus. I paused the clip when the shark came up. Thing had a gob like the Clem 7 tunnel. My word.
Don’t go swimming up here mate.

If you fish if the jetty some days, it’s tarpon galore. Get some live yabbies and glassies you are set
No need for live bait up there I reckon. If you want poon throw small plastics like a Jimmy Prawn 🦐
Wish I was there mate, planning to head up in the next few weeks, keen for then next vid too
Cheers mate. Vid vid is a bit more relaxed just light spin up the creeks.
