  • Ever try to build a fat, wide Turkish spindle cop, but you can only manage to build up? This is the video for you. It shows you when to start new layers to build a wider, flatter cop. Also shows how to do layers below the arms and why you should!

    I've always been curious how those Instagram spinners got such pretty turtles! Thank you this was very informative!

    Tbh I’m not into spending longer on winding my turtle than spinning it. Fine I guess if you want to take pretty pictures but I want usable yarn…I don’t care if it’s pretty in the ball.

      I agree, neat winding isn’t for everyone. That’s the beauty of spinning. There isn’t any one right way to do it. You get to make it your own. This video was for those who do want to wind on neatly. I have another video on the ball wind on if you are more into speed and not the beauty of the wind on.

    Hi Sara, looks gorgeous. Do you always ply?
    And what about keeping the stretch of the wool? It looks thight up very well. Thanks

    I use a larger turk. I always wonder how much fiber it can hold.

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  6 років тому

      I had a Jenkins Aegean and I fit an ounce on it. And I gave myself Tennis Elbow in the process, it was way too heavy for me! They can hold a lot of fiber, but that doesn't mean you necessarily should ;)

    How did you spin that much to wrap all at once...or did you unwrap it to show us how you wrap...I would be happy just to spin that even...thank you for sharing

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  7 років тому +1

      o0oMysticdragono0o I spun for about 5 minutes and wound the singles around the shaft. Then when I was ready to tape the video, I unwound all the singles so I could have a lot to use for the demo 😁. with practice, you will spin even too! Thanks for watching!

    Wrapping the top and bottom how do you get the strand you started with out to grab both strands to ply?

    • @grayautumnday
      @grayautumnday 2 роки тому +1

      I use tweezers, if I don’t mind how much pulling from the inside makes the plied have uneven twist. I usually just stick two separate cops on a lazy Kate and ply singles from two cops together to get a yarn with the same twist on each single.

    I just ordered my spindle so I have this question: To start a new row, did you go across from where you were, the same wooden piece just the opposite arm from where the yarn was? I kept rewinding to see ...It looks like you are starting the new layer on top across from your work, am I right? TFS!

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  5 років тому +2

      You actually start the new layer the same way you wind on an existing layer. When you are ready to start the new layer, you turn 1 arm, go right up next to the shaft and continue building out. Hope that helps! If not I can do another video just on that.

    Sara how much does this mini spindle hold?

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  5 років тому +1

      It really depends on how thick your singles are. This particular spindle is a Jenkins Finch and are made for spinning co web to light sport weight yarns. I have put about an ounce on it.

    Is that a Jenkins turk?

      It is indeed. It is a Bolivian Rosewood Finch.

    Very nice!! But you must be totally devastated when the time comes to use your extra pretty cops to ply etc. They're too neat and pretty for words! 😕

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  7 років тому +1

      Well thank you! I'm usually too excited to get to the finished project to be worried about being sad about ruining my turtles :) But I do display them on my spindle rack while waiting to finish all the singles, so there is that :)

      You are SO hooked!! LOL Like me tying an extra good looking fly to go
      catch me some trout, and deciding against it cuz I don't want to mangle
      the fly!! 😄
