Moo Deng, a baby pygmy hippo in Thailand, has found viral fame on social media, gaining over 2 million followers in a matter of months. The bouncing hippo star lives in Khao Kheow Open Zoo, but her face can be found on posters, souvenirs and food products around the globe. Moo Deng’s popularity has also created a surge in zoo ticket sales, generating about 19 million baht (US$576,000) between September 1-25, 2024. But the endangered animal’s sudden fame has sparked controversy, with US animal rights group Peta accusing the zoo of forcing Moo Deng into “a lifetime of confinement”.

Me thinks PETA would find a way to be negative about this no matter what. They could have just said, "we're happy that people are in love with baby animals, let's do our best to support all animals"

PETA out here embarassing themselves again. Lots of animals are born in captivity and are still very cute. Non-deformed dog breeds and non-deformed ornamental fish strains, cats, Guinea pigs, hamsters, and rabbits for example.
Also they ignore the fact animal in captivity lives longer due to nutritional diet and modern medicine. But also some animals are too late to be rehabilitated into wild such as animal born in captivity.
PETA is jealous of Moo Deng😅

Just ignore the Western organization, they just entitled to get offended by anything. Animal sanctuary is important, and so is a zoo because a zoo is more effective in term of raising awareness about the endangered species to the people. As long as the zoo seriously taking care of the animal, there is nothing wrong with it.

The reason they are endangered is because that they were outside and people targeted them. We need to keep these hippos under close care and protected before they become extinct. If their population under protection exceeds 10000 then some may be transferred to fully protected wild sanctuaries that are well monitored. Simply asking endangered animals to be released to the wild is utterly foolish when humanity has driven many animals to extinction in the wild.

When PETA is not too busy stealing a little girl's puppy and euthanized it on the same day despite her family and neighbor said that the pup has an owner or dog-napped a tiny canine from a homeless man because it claimed that he was using it to get donation money, PETA starts harassing other organizations that are actually helping animals instead. 😠👎

Animals goes extinct in the wild for many reason, and one of them is natural selection. To preserve the species you would need to keep them in close care.

The "refutation" to peta is no refutation as it in no way contradicts what peta has stated. It says "Yes but our cage is luxurious and fun".
A cage with luxurious amenities is still a cage. There are no different just because they have made it look nice on the inside.
Im no fan of PETA, but it doesnt take too many Moo Demg videos to see their pitiful & depressing enclousure, that moo demg is slapped for reactions, & to see that guests are throwing things at her, & her mother... seems that they deserve a better life.
