Stand By Me is my favorite Stephen King adaptation. It's based on his novella called The Body.
I really loved the movie when I was in middle school/high school.
It's different than a lot of what he's known for since it's not horror at all, just a coming of age story about a group of boys in 1959/1960.

Stand by me is one of my favourite movies of all time. I forget Stephen King had anything to do with that.

@@Fallon_OConnor3256 I really need to rewatch it and see if it's still one of my top movies.
But yeah, I think because it's so different than a lot of his stuff it isn't really spoken about much when it comes to his adaptations. It's more just spoken about in its own right as being a classic 80s movie.

Salem's lot has 2 or 3 adaptations. Carrie has a million adaptations I feel like the first with Sissy is the best! And The Green Miles adaptation is AMAZING!😍😭

The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption are, in my opinion, the best adaptations so far. There is a new adaptation of The Stand in the works so fingers crossed they finally do the book justice with it.

I"m currently reading The Shining... I felt I needed to read some more Stephen King thanks to you... The only King book I've read is The Green Mile after watching the movie with Tom Hanks that I thought was AMAZING! I haven't watched The Shining since I was in High School many many years ago 😩 I'm looking forward to rewatching after I finish reading. When the first Pet Semetary came out, it was pretty scary for its time, but I haven't watched it in years, so can't say if it holds up. I also loved the CHRISTINE adaptation when it came out, but again, I haven't seen that in years so I don't know if it holds up.

The Green Mile is also an adaption of A Stephen King book. I highly recommend it to you. It is such a beautiful movie starring Tom Hanks.

Glad you enjoyed Misery, Katy Bates definitely plays such a good psycho. I think you'll enjoy the Green Mile, I'm pretty sure it's going to make you cry, I still get choked up and I've watched it several times. Now Carrie, with Sissy Spacek is a classic but I'm not gonna lie, some parts are cheesy but overall it's a good story and if you didn't know John Travolta stars in it.😋 Hope you enjoy them!

Out of the three that you watched, Misery was my favorite too. My favorite Stephen King adaptation of all time is The Shining miniseries that King did. There are two adaptations to 'Salem's Lot that I can think of off the top of my head, plus the sequel to the original movie adaptation. The Green Mile also has a movie adaptation that's pretty famous.

    • @traci3868

Salems lot has TWO adaptions. One in 1970s and one in 2000s with the one and only ROB LOWE haha (who, oddly enough, is also in the Stand, which has recently been rereleased in HD).

The Green Mile is a super solid adaptation!! Definitely recommend that one. I also was a huge fan of the movie Secret Window with Johnny Depp that’s based on Stephen King’s novella Secret Window Secret Garden, though it’s been years since I watched it. I’m also a huge fan of the newer IT with the kids as well though not everyone is 🤷🏻‍♀️

Loved this video idea! You should try the new pet semetary one day soon and compare it to the old one. I totally agree about Sadie’s injury, in the book it was so intense and then in the show it was just a scratch. I was shocked by that scene in the show though only because her ex husband was George from Greys Anatomy and my brain could not process why he was so mean suddenly.

  • @divad44

It (old one but more specifically new one) is one of my all time favorite horror stories and movies EVER! So much so that I currently put the book down 300 pages in :/ I just have the movies so ingrained into my head that it’s difficult to digest the same story in book form? Does that make sense? Although I do plan on finishing the book soon! Same with the shining, movie is so ingrained into my head that I didn’t like the book. Whereas books where I had no idea about the story a la Pet Semetary I found so much more enjoyable! Is that a common thing or does that even make sense what I’m saying? Lol. I read misery gave it 3 stars cannot wait to watch the movie

The movie misery is really good. My favorites are Stand By Me [not sure if it's a book or short story], The Green Mile, Shakshaw Redemption The Dead Zone, movie & tv show [I read the book] Secret Window, Firestarter, Cats Eye, Silver Bullet , The Shinning, the orginal IT [read the book] and original Carrie [read the book]
I grew up watching these movies on tv when I was a kid. I also saw Shwsank Redemption & green mile on VHS as family movie time or watching it with my older brother. These stand out to me.
I thought Pet Sematary was okay both book & movie.

I hear ya when you say reading and watching the adaptation so close together... I'm currently having that issue with Little Fires Everywhere... Although I do love what the adaptation has done with IZZY. But just like your "thing" with James Franco, I have that with Kerry Washington 😁

omg misery is great as is the shining! im surprised you didnt like Pet sematary but i guess its meant to be creepy and campy and of note : no famous actors in it. GET THE BABY!!!! that scene still freaks me out. the lil coffin getting disturbed? and the old man playing their neighbor- i believe he is the actor from the munsters or the adams family i forget his name but he was the only good actor in it "sometimes dead is better" ahhhh i dunno why i love that movie so much but obviously its not taking itself too seriously.

I have seen Carrie, Cujo, and IT (original and newer version). I want to see the new Pet Sematary movie. But my fiancé said it wasn’t as good as the original one. So I have the original one saved on my Tubi account for free. I plan to watch it after I finish the book. I also plan to watch the Hulu series of 11/22/63 after I read the book. I just got my copy of the book in the mail. So once I finish reading Pet Sematary I will start that book.

The Green Mile I JUST read it for the first time but I've seen the movie before and I thought the movie was a great adaptation!! One of my top faves for sure! Makes me cry everytime! But 11/22/63 is my favorite book of King's! I thought the series was well done but I can see where you are coming from with your personal issues too! Misery is a great film but I've never read the book. I'm about to read Pet Semetary but I dont like either of the movie adaptations. Not a fan. Let's see....oh and Salems Lot is also a movie. Never seen it all the way through. Attempted once but it's so OLD I could not get into that one.

I have to disagree with you because Misery is one of my all-time favorite Stephen King books (and I've read 50 of them), and for me, the movie was nowhere near as good as the book. It was good, yes, but I felt that so much of the story took place inside the main character's head that the movie never could have been as good.
And yes, there is a movie adaptation of The Green Mile, and it's AMAZING, actually one of my favorite King movie adaptations, along with The Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me.
