That ain't lag tho, the wheels steered but it took some time until the tires gripped to make the turn. Happens all the time in regular cars. This is more noticeable with heavier cars and tires with large sidewalls.

@@ethanthorne5469Steer by wire means digital values sent via cable. That means sensing, encoding, transmission, decoding, at least one ECU to translate the sensor reading to instructions for the axle-mounted motors, encoding, transmission, decoding, motor activation. Yeah, there is lag with a system like that. No it's probably not noticeable - cars just look like it takes a second to respond because the wheels actually need to start driving in the direction you turn before you see the response.

The steering ratio is vastly different at highway speeds. It’ll give you full lock during low speed driving, but the ratio gradually shifts towards that of a normal system as the vehicle gains speed.
It’s almost like engineers think about these things. Especially when it would create an obvious safety/usability issue if they didn’t.

The more you turn the wheel the more the actual wheels turn. That's why it may look like "lag" or "latency" because at the starting point of steering wheel turn the actual wheels barely move.
