  • In early 2020 we purchased this 9 HP Harbor Freight Towable backhoe (made by Central Machinery, a Harbor Freight brand).
    This video shows the delivery, assembly and use of the Harbor Freight Towable backhoe in our yard. The towable backhoe powered by the 9HP Harbor Freight Predator engine moved countless buckets of dirt and boulders throughout many of the DIY projects around the property. More of those videos to come later, so stay tuned and subscribe.
    The Harbor Freight Towable backhoe has enabled us to accomplish numerous tasks such as:
    -digging 3' footing for 720 sq foot garage
    -trenching electrical and plumbing
    -digging tree stumps out
    -digging fence posts
    -knocking down an old building
    This towable backhoe has impressed us with its versatility and enabled many DIY projects around a busy schedule making it a great buy and perfect entry level learning tool for hydraulic equipment.

    Thanks. Kind of watch out on pushing things sideways with tbe boom like trees. The boom was not designed for a lot of side pushing stress. If bent then big trouble.

      Good call, part of the reason I wanted to learn on this was to understand those items better. Thank you fir checking the video out

    Awesome video! I’m looking at one on HF for $3k rn. Looks pretty fun to use honestly. Great footage of knocking over the building! Jason

      It is a ton of fun to use and honestly great to practice with. My first hydraulic machine and I was able to learn so much. It’s very capable, just watch out for some of the soft metal in places. Have fun!

    The best music for these hi speed videos would be the theme from The Benny Hill Show 😆

      That is pretty funny, I just played the song over the video…. I’ll have to figure out how to make that happen!

    As a former track hoe excavator operator, I have to say that the heavier machine you have, the more ripping force you have. This machine has no weight to it. My neighbor bought one of the harbor freight backhoes to dig up his water line at his gas station. It does not have enough weight and ripping force to dig through the hard dirt. He ended up having to hire a contractor instead. What a waste of $3200.

      It’s definitely a slower machine but I still found it very capable. I dug a 24’x30’ foundation 3’ deep and 2’ wide in extremely rocky Utah mountain terrain…. The towable backhoe did well. Pulled out a couple 300 lb rocks in the process. I’ve since got a small John Deere backhoe, much faster and more capable machine. The HF towable backhoe was not a waste of money for me though. It all depends on the person and the situation though.

    I got as far as wheels installed last weekend. My question, was about the hydraulic reservoir cap not screwing down to the o-ring. Tech said it not supposed to. 🤷‍♂️ I just assumed o'rings are used to seat things.

      I can’t quite remember on my but I thought there was a little retention from the o ring, not much. The tank isn’t under pressure so it doesn’t take much to seal. I’d definitely do a little macgyver something if you’re worried about anything getting in or it falling off. I have a love hate relationship with harbor freight

    I got one early 2020 I've made lots of upgrades to it been very good machine
    But I've notice they are going up a lot
    In price
    My advice is keep it grease an when
    You think it's enough do it every time
    You use it the king pin or pvoit pin
    Wares fast keep it grease often

    Just paid $3900 and it's being shipped. Appreciate the video so I can get a sense of how it's done. Did the axle grease come with the kit? Can I do it alone? How long would you say it took? I need to drive it around 150 miles. Did it tow well? Cheers!

    • @GetBusyBuilding
      @GetBusyBuilding  Рік тому +1

      They’ve gone up in price again then. It tows well. You’re not supposed to go at high way speeds. Test the waters lightly. My on issue was the safety lock not being aligned, this can be easily fixed or there are some easy work arounds. Hope it works well for you!

      @@GetBusyBuilding Thanks for the heads up. I took the parts up to my camp and will build it there this weekend, so no towing. Watched your video again as a reference. Cheers!

      It did not lock because it’s only designed to lock when you’re in the 7’ depth. Adjust the pin to 7’ digging depth and it locks right up

    Would you say this machine is durable?

    • @GetBusyBuilding
      @GetBusyBuilding  Рік тому +2

      It was fantastic. The bucket is soft metal and will bend after time if you are prying up big boulders like I was, one of the cylinders needed to be retightened after about 20 hrs of use (still functioned perfect without tightening)… as a whole I was very happy with the machine and accomplished so much with it. It is durable with proper care

    Better not leave the seat on while parked outside. The ravens and crows pecked holes in the vynil cover which is obviously made out of garbage waste. In two days they did some real damage.
