Mark you mentioned funding a bit - I would be interested in seeing a full video on funding, how it works, where you look for it, what your pitch process is, etc...
Enjoyed the Terrence Malick reference, love his work. I just found you a couple of weeks ago and really like your content. So refreshing to have a channel that’s not about the person, but the work. And your work is excellent. I started with your first video, and am now up to “Behind the scenes of Documentary Filmmaking. On set.” Would like to more of your perspective on this, a behind the scenes of an actual interview. For example, an interview with a metal sculptor. Research, prep notes, how the interview flows, with flubs, stops, gems, repeats, everything. Just to get a feel for what that’s like. Then a quick edit - the story, the best takes, and whittling it down. What you’re looking for as it comes together. Keep up the great work, and best of luck.
How do you get your talents comfortable in front of the camera? I find most of the time people tend to act unnatural when they have a camera pointed at them. I feel that having that raw natural reaction and emotion is a big part of what makes a documentary.
You must spend lots of time without the camera around them and then also film them lots when it doesn't matter so they get used to the camera being around. Use the sandwich schedule, I talk a bunch about this in some of the documentary videos I posted back in August :)
Really liking the colors out of that FX9! Always, always, always love BTS stuff. I like that you take the time to talk about the stuff that most pros sharing on UA-cam cover with "Yada, Yada, Yada". Oh yeah, and #GIMMEDATGIMBAL
Thank god some good, interesting content that is not a gear review (even though I eat those like candies....). More videos like this one please :) Thank you for sharing this slice of a day !
Mark thanks so much for this video. So insightful to see how you work as a DP as well as your process when it comes to lighting. That color grade is looking insane! Best of luck to you!!
Hey Mark, Michael & Tyler Just finished MOD 1 of AOD & am always glad to see more of your content here on UA-cam... I was surprised by the choice of having the Subjects eyes so deep in shadow... very dramatic choice.... btw... Please #gimmedatgimbal Thank you
Loved this BTS video! Keep them coming. When you grabbed the 35mm and the 50mm, I thought yes! 35mm is my go to for interviews with the 50mm for close ups. #GIMMEDATGIMBAL
Hey Mark, I recently happened to came across your channel and have been watching so much stuff on regular basis. Thanks for sharing valuable inputs on filmmaking. Much appreciated. Keep going !!
Great to see Mark go up in the grand scheme of things and see him get sponsored by Ikea! Need to carry your camera in your car? Use the Bæbë car seat. Need to store your lenses? Use the Kïtchën kitchen cabinet! But don't forget the most forgotten piece of gear! The Sigma chair! 🤣🤣

Solid things happening here! We just worked on a van life short doc story for a brand that wants to highlight cool stories in the community. Fun things!

Awesome tip on house lamps as practical lights. I have figured this out(boost the key light, so the lamp in the back can appear dimmed), what i did not know is that you can actually place the light so close to the subject. I will try this! #gimmedatgimbal
Good tip regarding the chair. I've been at a loss more than once to find an appropriate chair for interviews! IKEA should have a cinema line of chairs. Q: Are overweight people considered "full frame" (sorry...Dad joke).
Mark, I really don't know what to say because I think you hear it always but I enjoy your content, and having the perspective from someone who does this for living really helps me out to understand better this filming world. Thanks for all that! By the way... #GIMMEDATGIMBAL
One question I had about shooting interviews is not about the technical side, but more about the actual content. How do you go about preparing and asking the right questions or getting your subject to say 'the right things'? Do you ask really open questions and just let the subject talk a lot or do you ask more specific questions to get more of the answers you want? For example in Rescate, everything the main character says is really powerful. When I prepare interviews I get kind of stressed because I usually have some story beats that I want bring up in the documentary based on my understanding of whatever topic it is about, but I also don't want to 'box in' my subject too much so that he/she is still free to talk about things that I hadn't thought about before. When I ask specific questions I'm afraid I might miss out on some interesting perspectives and I might not get some of those powerful 'quotes' like in Rescate. When I go for more open questions, i'm afraid I won't have enough cohesive material to work with in the edit. I hope this makes sense, it's hard to really formulate what I mean.
hey mate! I have lots of good resources in this in some of my other documentary videos on this channel. I suggest watching these videos 1. ua-cam.com/video/o5f5c_7isbw/v-deo.html 2. ua-cam.com/video/Hx1I0YKLEg4/v-deo.html
#gimmedatgimbal !! lol - Right now, I use the Canon 6D mark ii and the Canon C100 for my film making (hoping to upgrade in the future just for features that are necessary for me where the C100 is concerned, like, some 60p, so the mark ii might be next) And, I actually have some Yongnuo led panel lights (Small - YN-300 or something like that) and some Godox sl60's).
I’m 16 years old and an aspiring documentary filmmaker. Due to my age, acquiring gear, especially expensive gear can be difficult. As you probably know, gear won’t make a film good, the filmmaker would, but a lack of gear can also be limiting creatively. This gimbal could really help me execute unique and cinematic shots to bring value to the work I do. This gimbal could really help me increase the quality of my work. #GIMMEDATGIMBAL
Did you match the Kelvin to the lamps? It looks like you may have set your lights a little cooler for that color contrast. Just trying to learn! Thanks
