I was wrong about there being only one Graphorn. Return to the Graphorn den and you can acquire multiple for breeding and get shiny ones too! Also, as many have said, you can indeed just switch to story mode in order to capture all beasts instantly and avoid the minigame. I feared doing this would screw up some difficulty based achievements but it seems achievements of that kind don't exist for this game. So feel free to change difficulty as you like with no consequences!
I got the onyx hippogriff pre-order bonus, but I'm going to be honest I prefer riding highwing because your character talks to high wing and says her name So it feels more immersive and personal
@@Dark_Voice yeah true. I only really use mounts when I have to go super far but I don’t want to fast travel. I think they’re faster than the broom, but not typically worth using for short distances or for popping balloons and such.
@@Zlittlepenguin Brooms depend on the altitude of the flight because you have endless charge if you are flying just above ground and you are faster than the beasts. You lose the sights and attract a lot of combat but you go faster. I use that personally to fight everyone and hunt resources like the jumping mushrooms etc.
I would argue that there is a bit more than just an aesthetic difference to the preorder bonus of a black hippogryph: You see, Highwind is female and you get her for completing the quest, while Caligo is male, meaning that you immediately get a pair and don't have to go out searching for one.
You can freeze any beast with Glacius and then the one that slams them into the ground and that will give you time to catch every single beast in the game (worked for me at least)
I don’t think the Puffskein should be last because as you said they are the easiest thing to catch but you didn’t mention they are the most farmable for money which is hard to come by.
Yeah that's a good point! Personally, by the time I got to unlocking the bag in the game to catch them, I wasn't really struggling for money. Though thinking about it, I'd done a bit more exploring and side quests by then rather than blitzing the main quest
- puffskein should be higher up because they are soooo easy to capture, spawn in large groups and sell for just as much as all the other beasts -> they are money makers - one unmentioned aspect of the diricawl is that sometimes you do have to slot a purple item and they can only have slot Tier II traits, so having a backup diricawl is even in the mid and late-game not useless - since the tier rank drops are almost completely random (and I say almost because I've tried it a lot and it looks like your character has actually a loot table with a dozen or so random undiscovered traits and if your desired one isn't on that you'll have to pick something else for the game to fill it back up), anyway, since its random you could potentially be sitting there with only Tier II and III traits by the time you unlock the vivarium. Your chance of getting higher ranks does not increase as the game goes on.
A good trick on capturing more difficult creatures is to spam accio on them and then hit them with arresto momentum while they’re falling over in front of you. This adds a little bit extra time as when arresto momentum wears off they still have to get back on their feet before they can start moving.
Regarding 15:41 - the merchant in Irondale sells Phoenix feathers. Although, you have to either wait a day cycle or adjust the time in game to get more than one at a time. Also, yes. The Unicorn made me crazy. I now can get to their den from the nearest Floo without needling to track it. I found only males 17 times. I had 3 males before I discovered that they were gendered and I needed to find a female. Same issue finding the male Thestral. The easiest I found, which still wasn’t easy, for both was to become invisible with either the potion or disillusionment spell and sneak up. I hit them with arrests momentum then the chase was on. If you zero in like you’re targeting an enemy you can chase the yellow circle that attaches itself.
If you are having trouble getting a more difficult beast like thestrals then equip decendo aresto momentum and accio and decendo to make them lay on the ground aresto momentum to freeze them and if they still get away after that then use accio and finish the capture/rescue
Gold unicorns in the Harry Potter books specifically in book 3- Mention that immature unicorns are golden. So what you have there is a adolescent unicorn
About the Unicorns: The first unicorn I found was a white male. Then, I left and came back, and found a white female. Then, I left and came back, and found a gold (shiny) female. So I think you were just unlucky ahah! (Or I was lucky IDK)
You're seriously lucky. I haven't been able to find a shiny unicorn. And I keep getting male unicorn. Only gotten a female one after my 4th or 5th tries
My top 3 beasts is the exact same. I'm pretty happy that I preordered the game to get Caligo and enthralled when I heard the score while riding the Graphorn for the first time. After I finished the story I wanted to try my hand at shiny hunting all the beasts and was mildly disappointed when I realized there is no Phoenix den to be found in the late game, but merely the one you find in the story. 😢 Had I known that I might have tried saving before I went into the cave and resetting each time if it wasn't shiny. The Graphorn isn't as bad since the one at the den does respawn so there is a chance it will turn up shiny, but man does it take a while. Are gold unicorns actually the shiny version? I bred one that turned out gold, but I thought that was just the infant's colour. I forgot to check for the shiny symbol on its title banner when it's in the vivarium.
I got unicorns on like first try. I take a quest save hazel the unicorn and when i find her i also find male unicorn with her in like no time. Then i breed them and i got golden unicorn baby. Do you want to tell me this is a rare experience?
Probably shouldn't admit this but first time I visited the unicorn den I got a white female. Second time I got a shiny male. I didn't realize it was shiny. I just thought the females were white and the males gold.
If you're having a difficult time capturing beasts, use Glacius to stop the beasts from fleeing. It keeps them frozen for longer than any other spell. Plus, the beasts remain stunned for a moment longer after unfreezing, which makes it easy to catch even the most difficult beasts. It also causes flying beasts to fall out of the sky. Another important thing is that the vendor in Irondale (far to the south, in the Feldcroft Region) sells both Phoenix feathers and Graphorn Horns. He sells one each but restocks often. The Brood and Peck also sold me 1 Phoenix Feather but never restocked them. She does restock Graphorn Horns on a regular basis, though. I hope this helps!!!
glacius on flying beast is not always desirable because the birds sometimes fly out over the cliff or mountainside where their spawn tree is. And its a certified "ups"-moment when you freeze them mid air and watch them just plummet down the hill, completely out of reach and probably very dead.
@@oq1106 true that could most definitely stink. But if you back away from their spawn point a little, they come back. I have not had the experience you exampled. I usually wait until I know they are in a spot where they won't fall off a cliff. And can understand not everyone wants to do the waiting, but can be worth it if you do. Revelio I use after every catch as well so I can locate where they are at & if I need to let any beast come back to their spawn as well.
One of the funnest parts of this game, which is saying something because there's a LOT that's fun about this game, is catching and taking care of the animals in the vivarium.
The room of requirement based stuff adds a whole other level of creativity; which is on top of a huge map and tonnes of main and side quests! They say there's only 70 hours of gameplay here but I definitely think it's more!
There is a quest to capture a unique unicorn named Hazel, given by an NPC in Hogsmeade. I am pretty sure Hazel will always be a female if you are only seeing male unicorns

Just want to call out that it is not the only Grapehorn in the game! You can definitely go back and get more, but it’s always a battle and there will always only be one at a time. I collected two more to get a female and complete the “breed every beast” trophy.
if u set the game difficulty on ‘Story Mode’ u can catch the beasts very quickly w/o having to do the mini-game. (Also gives an AutoSolve Option for the Alohomora lock picking bits). (lastly u can change game difficulty on the fly/without having to reload).
Incidentally, the quest that frees Highwing also provided the second one. So these can be bred immediately. The only major omission is dragons. You have to give the egg up and cannot capture one.
one note on the bonus beasts from the packs, both of them can be placed in your vivarium, without losing them as mount options. What this means is you got a free breedable pair of hypogryphs and half a pair of thestrals.
Use levioso, especially for flying beasts. It lifts the beast up and after the spell wears off, it drops the beast back to the ground giving you extra time to capture it. From my experience, it's much more useful than the stop/slow spell.
I love Graphorn it is just so cute and their lore is awesome. I also love how it is tied into the main quests. If you want to get places fast do broom, if you want to kill everything you want and feel extremely cool use Graphorn.
Yeah, I was going to say before I read your comment there are multiple graphorns. You can get a white one and you can also get phoenix feathers from other vendors.
capturing any beast is super easy. you dont have to do it in the time given by one yellow spell, whichever you use. like w unicorns or thestrals, cast glacius or levioso, do the bag thing a couple of times, then cast your yellow spell again, repeat until bag
If you are having trouble capturing beasts, do not forget that you can use disillusionment to get closer to them before trying to catch. I haven’t had trouble catching any beasts and I haven’t seen any one do or even mention it.
After the main quest to defeat and ride “Lord of the Shore”, you can go back to the graphorn den and there will be another graphorn that you can catch. The second time I went, it was a female and I was able to breed the pair of graphorns.
I'd like to see the economy in the game flushed out a little better. We have these lovely beast that we take care of and can grow all kinds of plants and brew potions. You should be able to sell ingredients and potions. Each main character in the game by about Midway through the game is easily able to out produce every store on the map put together. You can have millions of galleons worth of supplies and can't sell any
Especially since there is a quest that literally allows you to buy a shop in Hogsheade. But at the moment, its sole purpose is to sell gear at a 10% increase over all other vendors. A very sad lack of usage, unfortunately.
Agreed, I was so excited thinking I could sell potions, plants and other ingredients. It would also be great to be able to change the shop decor like you can in the room of requirement. I did make a ton selling gear though.
My personal favorite beast is the Thestral. The flying mount looks so much… smoother than the hippogriffs, I’m not going to lie. The problem with the hippogriff mount in my opinion is the stiff head as it flies and runs. The run just looks a bit strange, I’m sure we can all agree. All of that aside, they are all extremely stunning beasts!
the head is stiff because birds heads do not move when they are flying, its so they can keep an eye on their prey and they cant look around with their eyeballs.
@@venmootOh nice info. But my opinion still stands, I feel like the head should at least have a little tilt to it, like in the movie, when it flies, it leans it’s head forward just a bit.
I managed to find 3 female unicorns and 5 male unicorns, bred them all and got a bunch of gold babies, (as soon as that part of the game came about, I cared more about the animals than the plot XD). I noticed that the closer to the end of the game you got, the more poachers were around, how much harder it was to find the animals, niffler nests, kneazle nests and mooncalfs were so rare to come by towards the end. I thought it was a sad but good touch. Hippogriffs, Thestrals and unicorns were in no shortage though luckily. Kind of sad there wasn't more phoenix birds but with how rare they are I get it. Would have been nice to breed them.
Best way I've found to get thestrals in the bag is to go into the nest using Disillusionment, and wait until one lies down, then hit it with Arresto Momentum and immediately go to the bag. The Arresto Momentum does wear off before you can nab it, but it has to stand up before it can fly off, and I found that did make enough of a difference to make them just that bit easier. I've found Unicorns to be the trickiest so far, But I've not got hold of a Graphorn yet... I found a couple of interesting interactions within the Vivarium: 1. Unicorns and Thestrals don't seem to get along 2. Hippogriffs scare Nifflers 3. Kneazles don't give a monkey's about any other beasts I also love some of the animations when the animals are being brushed - The Nifflers try to nick the brush and stick it in their pouch, and both the Hippogriffs and Thestrals stretch out a wing and go like "you missed a spot"...
I enjoyed the video. Found your channel through your Cyberpunk videos. Glad to see you are also covering this game! I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but glacius also works well on creatures to stop them from getting away. Particularly those that can fly.

The Nab Sack minigame is all about managing your distance from the beast, so for the hard-to-capture beasts, cast Levioso or Arresto Momentum, move in as close as you can get to the beast (like, RIGHT next to them), cast Levioso again, and then move through the Nab Sack sequence as quickly as you can. Works every time.
Dont know if it was an update or not but theres more graphorns back where you fight the original one. each one varies so just keep going back until you get both genders
I was rubbish the first time I used the Nab-sack but then someone online said to Accio and then Glacius the beast after getting really close to them using a disillusionment spell and I caught a male and female, Unicorn, Hippogriffs and Thestrals all in half an hour. So much easier.
Ye I don’t like the preorder deal when they are already common in game to begin with. I mean everyone is already paying a lot for this game. There isn’t a person who is obsessed with Harry Potter who wouldn’t get this game lol. Also yeah I’d love to have a unicorn as a ground mount or Pegasus. The more creatures and mounts the better 😃

after getting most of these i turn off my sound so i dont have to hear “Deej thinks you should be proud of all the potions you’ve brewed.” EVERY TIME I WALK INTO THE ROOM OF REQUIREMENT
I found nothing but female Unicorns once I done the Hazel side quest, but in sheer frustration I accidentally discovered that if you use Confringo or Bombarda on the beast they stay down Alot longer and you can easily get 4/5 button prompts when trying to get it in the knab sack!
Glacius works really well because not only freezes them but it also makes them fall to the ground and when they thaw out they have to get up and it gives you some extra time
I kinda preferred my yellow/gold/brown hipogryph's color scheme over any of the others honestly. Worked well with my Hufflepuff colors! I called her Filigree, and I wish I could have made her my flying mount 😢 But it's really hard to say what my favorite magical beast is. If they ever add that Roc/Eagle thing from Fantastic Beasts then it might scratch that itch between the awe-inspiring size/power of a graphorn and the majesty of the phoenix.
There is a quest that will give you a female golden Unicorn, that you can use to breed baby gold unicorns. It's a side/relationship quest that pops up in Hogsmeade, not sure when or what lvl requirements, but It's pre end game.
I like thestrals...... but I turned mine into dragons, because I like them more. See it as my unofficial nr 1 I would set the graphorn on nr one as it's that cool to ride and I hate they let you capture it only when the game is nearly finished. Nifflers should be on nr 1 tho because they are the cutest and should have the ability to be pets by your side and hoard(steal) gold for you. So hard to pick a favorite.... 😅 As for the unicorns, funny I only found females on my last (recent) play-trough.
From the cuteness factor, puffskeins are pretty high up my list. I happen to name my beasts, so my puffskein named Sherlock is my favorite beast so far XD. I was lucky with the unicorn (have only one yet and am waiting for the Hazel quest) and the Thestrals: for some reason, they didn't really try to run away and I did get them fairly easily. I think, the phoenix quest will come up soon.
@@SamBram I actually named my 4 puffskeins after 4 real life guinea pigs my now adult children had when growing up. They are even similarly colored. So cute!
The thing is, the game really doesn't incentivise capturing beasts for farming magical materials. I don't really need to upgrade my gear at all to become a god closer to endgame, I automatically become one by levelling up, learning spells (particularly the 3 unforgivibles), and being strategic with my talent points. At that point I don't need to be any stronger; no enemy presents much of a challenge - not even the final boss. The only reason to catch beasts, for me atleast, is for a quick buck every now and then.
The captured the first unicorn pretty easy and it was a female so maybe i got lucky. i returned to the den like an hour later and got the second one that was a male and mated them once i unlocked that and they made a golden unicorn. I didnt have trouble catching a unicorn until the quest where you had to catch a specific one. I had to use levioso on it catch it because i could only get 3 or 4 clicks in before it ran half a kilometer away
I was having trouble getting a female unicorn as well! But there’s a side quest in hogsmeade to rescue hazel the unicorn, which is the inly time TWO unicorns will appear in the den, and Hazel is female.
A tip for catching unicorns or like any beast in general. Before using the bag, use arresto momentum to slow the beast down, you can now much more easily catch the beast. I did the same for my first male unicorn, but later there is a quest to also get a female unicorn named hazel. After catching her, i breeded them to get a young golden unicorn which looks damn incredible.
Just a tip aresto momento is ok for some beasts but levioso seems too be the best for thestrel’s and hippogriffs at least on normal mod oh and make sure too use the disillusionment spell it allows you too get a lot closer witch is very helpful with levioso The reason levioso is better because when the stop floating the get a small stun from hitting the ground requiring them too get up witch should give you enough time instead of aresto where the just resume what there doing after it’s finished and if you want something that’s flying and out of range just spam acio until there close enough too stop or float
I'm currently playing through the game for the first time and yesterday I got Highwing and saw the lake I was flying over and knew I had to try, so I went down and dipped the claws into the water and I nearly cried out of satisfaction
The list mentions how hard a beast is to capture. *BUT* if you lower the difficulty to "Story" right before catching the minigame is turned off. Meaning you can capture a Thestral, Unicorn or whatever Beast you desire by simply walking/running up to it and activating the bag. It is similar to the annoying Alohomora minigame. On Story you can skip it.
You can also buy Phoenix feathers from certain vendors I know personally one is in irondale vendor for 700 galleons , he also gives u a quest to find a family heirloom that was stolen ! Good luck!
DO NOT USE ARRESTO MOMENTUM GUYS!!! Use Glacius. There will be no beast who can resist it. You cast Glacius, two squares with the bag, Glacius again. Beasts recover from Glacius slowly, so you can actually always see when to cast it again.
Per the Unicorns, I actually had the opposite problem. I only got females. Took me ages to find a male. For anyone having difficulty finding a female though there is a guaranteed female spawn in the game as a result of a quest. Cant remember when it unlocks, only that it unlocks in Hogsmead. It is the only time you will ever find two unicorns in the spawn point, as the quest unicorn is spawned in separate to the unicorn already in the den. If you are lucky you might be able to get a male and female in one visit.
I must be one of the few players freezing beasts to catch them. Levitating doesn't seem to hold them for long, and when a beast thaws it falls to the ground giving you a bit of extra time to catch. It also brings the birds down to the ground. Graphorn is my favorite.
You can get another Graphorn in the game. I accidentally walked by where I found the first one while looking for merlin trials and another Graphorn jumped me, now I have two in my vivarium. You just have to go back after you have already completed the quest associated with getting one.
I've seen dragons fly over and steal livestock and I know there's mods to fly them, but it'd be cool to train one (lol) even if it was a totally different process to the rest of the beasts. Lots of scope for this world in general and whilst I'm glad they kept the mechanics relatively simple and very polished here, I look forward to seeing what they do next
Big tip, use the Glacius spell and you'll get more time to catch animals. Way more. Also, you can go catch more graphorns in the same spot you go the first one, as well as breed them when you find the other gender. You just have to fight it again. The unicorns can also spawn more than one at a time as well
I love Mooncalves but I think they would be hell to care in real live because of their big eyes. Also, there is a side quest from a vendor in one of the hamlets to follow a trail of coins to catch a thief, which turns out to be a Niffler with unique name we need to catch. Another quest tasks us with rescuing a Mooncalf named Biscuit that belongs to a Goblin in Hogsmeade. At the end we can decide if we want to give the beast back or to keep them themselves. Personally I gave Biscouit back to her owner.
I played the biscuit quest and reloaded to try the different options. Thought it'd be too much of a tangent to include here but basically if you keep biscuit the goblin gets very upset and you feel like a horrible person
I must say that, whilst thoroughly enjoying the game and am consistently impressed by it as a lifelong wizarding fan, I am slightly disappointed that dragons don’t appear to be at all present in the wild. Whilst I don’t think anyone expects that dragons could be tamed, they would have been a very interesting and challenging enemy to slay and may have even yielded rare materials for powerful potions etc.

I have the world's biggest problem with money so honestly I would rate puffskiens 2nd place, right under the FREAKING AWESOME graphorn. Just because there is the next right next to Hogsmead and they are so easy to catch. And somehow even with all that I can never afford anything. BTW: pro tip for capturing beasts!!! USE DISILLUSIONMENT!!! It's a perfect way to get as close as possible so it takes longer for the beast to run away!!
Tip: Change the difficulty to story mode while capturing beast to skip the mini game of clicking the button. Edit: I'd recommend to turn on story mode, grab your beasts and then turn off to not to make the game easier against actually enemies you want to fight

I quite like like the Kneazles because they look like small babies of tigers or something. However my grand favourite is the thestral.

I think it is 50/50 most likely. At getting a female the 7th try for me that's about a 0.7% chance of happening. I've seen worse odds
You're seriously lucky. I haven't been able to find a shiny unicorn. And I keep getting male unicorn. Only gotten a female one after my 4th or 5th tries

My top 3 beasts is the exact same. I'm pretty happy that I preordered the game to get Caligo and enthralled when I heard the score while riding the Graphorn for the first time. After I finished the story I wanted to try my hand at shiny hunting all the beasts and was mildly disappointed when I realized there is no Phoenix den to be found in the late game, but merely the one you find in the story. 😢 Had I known that I might have tried saving before I went into the cave and resetting each time if it wasn't shiny. The Graphorn isn't as bad since the one at the den does respawn so there is a chance it will turn up shiny, but man does it take a while.
Are gold unicorns actually the shiny version? I bred one that turned out gold, but I thought that was just the infant's colour. I forgot to check for the shiny symbol on its title banner when it's in the vivarium.

I got unicorns on like first try. I take a quest save hazel the unicorn and when i find her i also find male unicorn with her in like no time. Then i breed them and i got golden unicorn baby. Do you want to tell me this is a rare experience?
Probably shouldn't admit this but first time I visited the unicorn den I got a white female. Second time I got a shiny male. I didn't realize it was shiny. I just thought the females were white and the males gold.
If you're having a difficult time capturing beasts, use Glacius to stop the beasts from fleeing. It keeps them frozen for longer than any other spell. Plus, the beasts remain stunned for a moment longer after unfreezing, which makes it easy to catch even the most difficult beasts. It also causes flying beasts to fall out of the sky.
Another important thing is that the vendor in Irondale (far to the south, in the Feldcroft Region) sells both Phoenix feathers and Graphorn Horns. He sells one each but restocks often. The Brood and Peck also sold me 1 Phoenix Feather but never restocked them. She does restock Graphorn Horns on a regular basis, though. I hope this helps!!!
The merchant in Pitt upon Ford does sell all animal ingredeants too. It is the most northern hamlet.
Came to say a couple other vendors out there do sell phoenix feathers & the other more rare ones.
I wasn’t sure if I was hurting the beasts when using magic on them. I’ve been using the slow down one. Will try the freezing spell.
glacius on flying beast is not always desirable because the birds sometimes fly out over the cliff or mountainside where their spawn tree is. And its a certified "ups"-moment when you freeze them mid air and watch them just plummet down the hill, completely out of reach and probably very dead.
@@oq1106 true that could most definitely stink. But if you back away from their spawn point a little, they come back. I have not had the experience you exampled. I usually wait until I know they are in a spot where they won't fall off a cliff. And can understand not everyone wants to do the waiting, but can be worth it if you do. Revelio I use after every catch as well so I can locate where they are at & if I need to let any beast come back to their spawn as well.
One of the funnest parts of this game, which is saying something because there's a LOT that's fun about this game, is catching and taking care of the animals in the vivarium.
The room of requirement based stuff adds a whole other level of creativity; which is on top of a huge map and tonnes of main and side quests! They say there's only 70 hours of gameplay here but I definitely think it's more!

There is a quest to capture a unique unicorn named Hazel, given by an NPC in Hogsmeade. I am pretty sure Hazel will always be a female if you are only seeing male unicorns
Trash it a regular one go to the den in forest and wait for a shiny. Sleep 6 time and new respawn

Just want to call out that it is not the only Grapehorn in the game! You can definitely go back and get more, but it’s always a battle and there will always only be one at a time.
I collected two more to get a female and complete the “breed every beast” trophy.

if u set the game difficulty on ‘Story Mode’ u can catch the beasts very quickly w/o having to do the mini-game. (Also gives an AutoSolve Option for the Alohomora lock picking bits). (lastly u can change game difficulty on the fly/without having to reload).
If you’re on PC, you can also mod both of these to be in any difficulty lol
Incidentally, the quest that frees Highwing also provided the second one. So these can be bred immediately. The only major omission is dragons. You have to give the egg up and cannot capture one.
one note on the bonus beasts from the packs, both of them can be placed in your vivarium, without losing them as mount options. What this means is you got a free breedable pair of hypogryphs and half a pair of thestrals.
Use levioso, especially for flying beasts. It lifts the beast up and after the spell wears off, it drops the beast back to the ground giving you extra time to capture it. From my experience, it's much more useful than the stop/slow spell.
Or just use Glacio and watch them ragdoll helplessly afterwards.

I love Graphorn it is just so cute and their lore is awesome. I also love how it is tied into the main quests. If you want to get places fast do broom, if you want to kill everything you want and feel extremely cool use Graphorn.
Yeah, I was going to say before I read your comment there are multiple graphorns. You can get a white one and you can also get phoenix feathers from other vendors.
Freeze them first, they can't move let alone run or fly.
Glacius works really well when trying to capture beasts as well.
capturing any beast is super easy. you dont have to do it in the time given by one yellow spell, whichever you use. like w unicorns or thestrals, cast glacius or levioso, do the bag thing a couple of times, then cast your yellow spell again, repeat until bag
tip, if you cant find a female unicorn, there will be a quest in which you go and capture a unique one

I had the opposite problem. I had like 3 unicorns before I found a male. The first and ONLY male I have found ended up being a golden one
If you are having trouble capturing beasts, do not forget that you can use disillusionment to get closer to them before trying to catch.
I haven’t had trouble catching any beasts and I haven’t seen any one do or even mention it.
After the main quest to defeat and ride “Lord of the Shore”, you can go back to the graphorn den and there will be another graphorn that you can catch. The second time I went, it was a female and I was able to breed the pair of graphorns.
I'd like to see the economy in the game flushed out a little better.
We have these lovely beast that we take care of and can grow all kinds of plants and brew potions.
You should be able to sell ingredients and potions.
Each main character in the game by about Midway through the game is easily able to out produce every store on the map put together.
You can have millions of galleons worth of supplies and can't sell any
Especially since there is a quest that literally allows you to buy a shop in Hogsheade. But at the moment, its sole purpose is to sell gear at a 10% increase over all other vendors. A very sad lack of usage, unfortunately.
Agreed, I was so excited thinking I could sell potions, plants and other ingredients. It would also be great to be able to change the shop decor like you can in the room of requirement. I did make a ton selling gear though.

My personal favorite beast is the Thestral. The flying mount looks so much… smoother than the hippogriffs, I’m not going to lie. The problem with the hippogriff mount in my opinion is the stiff head as it flies and runs. The run just looks a bit strange, I’m sure we can all agree. All of that aside, they are all extremely stunning beasts!
the head is stiff because birds heads do not move when they are flying, its so they can keep an eye on their prey and they cant look around with their eyeballs.
@@venmootOh nice info. But my opinion still stands, I feel like the head should at least have a little tilt to it, like in the movie, when it flies, it leans it’s head forward just a bit.
I managed to find 3 female unicorns and 5 male unicorns, bred them all and got a bunch of gold babies, (as soon as that part of the game came about, I cared more about the animals than the plot XD). I noticed that the closer to the end of the game you got, the more poachers were around, how much harder it was to find the animals, niffler nests, kneazle nests and mooncalfs were so rare to come by towards the end. I thought it was a sad but good touch. Hippogriffs, Thestrals and unicorns were in no shortage though luckily. Kind of sad there wasn't more phoenix birds but with how rare they are I get it. Would have been nice to breed them.
Best way I've found to get thestrals in the bag is to go into the nest using Disillusionment, and wait until one lies down, then hit it with Arresto Momentum and immediately go to the bag. The Arresto Momentum does wear off before you can nab it, but it has to stand up before it can fly off, and I found that did make enough of a difference to make them just that bit easier.
I've found Unicorns to be the trickiest so far, But I've not got hold of a Graphorn yet...
I found a couple of interesting interactions within the Vivarium:
1. Unicorns and Thestrals don't seem to get along
2. Hippogriffs scare Nifflers
3. Kneazles don't give a monkey's about any other beasts
I also love some of the animations when the animals are being brushed - The Nifflers try to nick the brush and stick it in their pouch, and both the Hippogriffs and Thestrals stretch out a wing and go like "you missed a spot"...
I enjoyed the video. Found your channel through your Cyberpunk videos. Glad to see you are also covering this game! I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but glacius also works well on creatures to stop them from getting away. Particularly those that can fly.

Switching to story mode is a better strategy for catching creatures.
Also being invisible helps. Hold spells help.
The Nab Sack minigame is all about managing your distance from the beast, so for the hard-to-capture beasts, cast Levioso or Arresto Momentum, move in as close as you can get to the beast (like, RIGHT next to them), cast Levioso again, and then move through the Nab Sack sequence as quickly as you can. Works every time.
Dont know if it was an update or not but theres more graphorns back where you fight the original one. each one varies so just keep going back until you get both genders
Arresto momentum is your friend when capturing beasts.

Or turn your setting to story before you go capture then no prompt button pushing.
I was rubbish the first time I used the Nab-sack but then someone online said to Accio and then Glacius the beast after getting really close to them using a disillusionment spell and I caught a male and female, Unicorn, Hippogriffs and Thestrals all in half an hour. So much easier.
Ye I don’t like the preorder deal when they are already common in game to begin with. I mean everyone is already paying a lot for this game. There isn’t a person who is obsessed with Harry Potter who wouldn’t get this game lol.
Also yeah I’d love to have a unicorn as a ground mount or Pegasus. The more creatures and mounts the better 😃

I found nothing but female Unicorns once I done the Hazel side quest, but in sheer frustration I accidentally discovered that if you use Confringo or Bombarda on the beast they stay down Alot longer and you can easily get 4/5 button prompts when trying to get it in the knab sack!
you can get a second graphorn at the same location because they do re-spawn after a while.
Glacius works really well because not only freezes them but it also makes them fall to the ground and when they thaw out they have to get up and it gives you some extra time
I kinda preferred my yellow/gold/brown hipogryph's color scheme over any of the others honestly. Worked well with my Hufflepuff colors! I called her Filigree, and I wish I could have made her my flying mount 😢
But it's really hard to say what my favorite magical beast is. If they ever add that Roc/Eagle thing from Fantastic Beasts then it might scratch that itch between the awe-inspiring size/power of a graphorn and the majesty of the phoenix.

There is a quest that will give you a female golden Unicorn, that you can use to breed baby gold unicorns. It's a side/relationship quest that pops up in Hogsmeade, not sure when or what lvl requirements, but It's pre end game.
I like thestrals...... but I turned mine into dragons, because I like them more. See it as my unofficial nr 1
I would set the graphorn on nr one as it's that cool to ride and I hate they let you capture it only when the game is nearly finished.
Nifflers should be on nr 1 tho because they are the cutest and should have the ability to be pets by your side and hoard(steal) gold for you.
So hard to pick a favorite.... 😅
As for the unicorns, funny I only found females on my last (recent) play-trough.
From the cuteness factor, puffskeins are pretty high up my list. I happen to name my beasts, so my puffskein named Sherlock is my favorite beast so far XD. I was lucky with the unicorn (have only one yet and am waiting for the Hazel quest) and the Thestrals: for some reason, they didn't really try to run away and I did get them fairly easily. I think, the phoenix quest will come up soon.
Tbf, they pretty cute. Irl they'd probably be easiest to manage as a pet. Like a big guinea pig...

The thing is, the game really doesn't incentivise capturing beasts for farming magical materials. I don't really need to upgrade my gear at all to become a god closer to endgame, I automatically become one by levelling up, learning spells (particularly the 3 unforgivibles), and being strategic with my talent points. At that point I don't need to be any stronger; no enemy presents much of a challenge - not even the final boss.
The only reason to catch beasts, for me atleast, is for a quick buck every now and then.

The captured the first unicorn pretty easy and it was a female so maybe i got lucky. i returned to the den like an hour later and got the second one that was a male and mated them once i unlocked that and they made a golden unicorn. I didnt have trouble catching a unicorn until the quest where you had to catch a specific one. I had to use levioso on it catch it because i could only get 3 or 4 clicks in before it ran half a kilometer away
I was having trouble getting a female unicorn as well! But there’s a side quest in hogsmeade to rescue hazel the unicorn, which is the inly time TWO unicorns will appear in the den, and Hazel is female.
I just found a gold unicorn 10 minutes ago, it was the first one I ever caught too lol, what is my RNG XD
A tip for catching unicorns or like any beast in general. Before using the bag, use arresto momentum to slow the beast down, you can now much more easily catch the beast.
I did the same for my first male unicorn, but later there is a quest to also get a female unicorn named hazel. After catching her, i breeded them to get a young golden unicorn which looks damn incredible.
Just freeze them, it’s better than slowing them

Just a tip aresto momento is ok for some beasts but levioso seems too be the best for thestrel’s and hippogriffs at least on normal mod oh and make sure too use the disillusionment spell it allows you too get a lot closer witch is very helpful with levioso
The reason levioso is better because when the stop floating the get a small stun from hitting the ground requiring them too get up witch should give you enough time instead of aresto where the just resume what there doing after it’s finished and if you want something that’s flying and out of range just spam acio until there close enough too stop or float

I'm currently playing through the game for the first time and yesterday I got Highwing and saw the lake I was flying over and knew I had to try, so I went down and dipped the claws into the water and I nearly cried out of satisfaction

Story difficult skips the qte so it's auto catch
The list mentions how hard a beast is to capture.
*BUT* if you lower the difficulty to "Story" right before catching the minigame is turned off.
Meaning you can capture a Thestral, Unicorn or whatever Beast you desire by simply walking/running up to it and activating the bag.
It is similar to the annoying Alohomora minigame.
On Story you can skip it.

You can also buy Phoenix feathers from certain vendors I know personally one is in irondale vendor for 700 galleons , he also gives u a quest to find a family heirloom that was stolen ! Good luck!

DO NOT USE ARRESTO MOMENTUM GUYS!!! Use Glacius. There will be no beast who can resist it. You cast Glacius, two squares with the bag, Glacius again. Beasts recover from Glacius slowly, so you can actually always see when to cast it again.
Per the Unicorns, I actually had the opposite problem. I only got females. Took me ages to find a male.
For anyone having difficulty finding a female though there is a guaranteed female spawn in the game as a result of a quest. Cant remember when it unlocks, only that it unlocks in Hogsmead. It is the only time you will ever find two unicorns in the spawn point, as the quest unicorn is spawned in separate to the unicorn already in the den. If you are lucky you might be able to get a male and female in one visit.
I just played this quest, I was in between the third and fourth trial if I remember correctly :) Hazel the unicorn!
I must be one of the few players freezing beasts to catch them. Levitating doesn't seem to hold them for long, and when a beast thaws it falls to the ground giving you a bit of extra time to catch. It also brings the birds down to the ground. Graphorn is my favorite.

You can get another Graphorn in the game. I accidentally walked by where I found the first one while looking for merlin trials and another Graphorn jumped me, now I have two in my vivarium. You just have to go back after you have already completed the quest associated with getting one.
I feel like tha game need more beasts like a lot more..
I've seen dragons fly over and steal livestock and I know there's mods to fly them, but it'd be cool to train one (lol) even if it was a totally different process to the rest of the beasts. Lots of scope for this world in general and whilst I'm glad they kept the mechanics relatively simple and very polished here, I look forward to seeing what they do next

Big tip, use the Glacius spell and you'll get more time to catch animals. Way more. Also, you can go catch more graphorns in the same spot you go the first one, as well as breed them when you find the other gender. You just have to fight it again. The unicorns can also spawn more than one at a time as well
Since it seems that those toads come from the egg fully formed, I headcanon that they spend the entire tadpole stage inside their eggs.
I love Mooncalves but I think they would be hell to care in real live because of their big eyes.
Also, there is a side quest from a vendor in one of the hamlets to follow a trail of coins to catch a thief, which turns out to be a Niffler with unique name we need to catch.
Another quest tasks us with rescuing a Mooncalf named Biscuit that belongs to a Goblin in Hogsmeade. At the end we can decide if we want to give the beast back or to keep them themselves. Personally I gave Biscouit back to her owner.
I played the biscuit quest and reloaded to try the different options. Thought it'd be too much of a tangent to include here but basically if you keep biscuit the goblin gets very upset and you feel like a horrible person

I must say that, whilst thoroughly enjoying the game and am consistently impressed by it as a lifelong wizarding fan, I am slightly disappointed that dragons don’t appear to be at all present in the wild. Whilst I don’t think anyone expects that dragons could be tamed, they would have been a very interesting and challenging enemy to slay and may have even yielded rare materials for powerful potions etc.
I actually came across a dragon in the coastal region! I flew beside it on my hippogriff, it was a beautiful moment. Couldn’t interact with it though.

The mooncalf offspring is one of the cutest video game/fantasy creatures I've ever seen.
I have the world's biggest problem with money so honestly I would rate puffskiens 2nd place, right under the FREAKING AWESOME graphorn. Just because there is the next right next to Hogsmead and they are so easy to catch. And somehow even with all that I can never afford anything. BTW: pro tip for capturing beasts!!! USE DISILLUSIONMENT!!! It's a perfect way to get as close as possible so it takes longer for the beast to run away!!
I don't think anyone will read this but if you use levioso and then arresto momentum you can easily catch any beast.
Tip: Change the difficulty to story mode while capturing beast to skip the mini game of clicking the button.
Edit: I'd recommend to turn on story mode, grab your beasts and then turn off to not to make the game easier against actually enemies you want to fight
