Well done, Will. There was so much useful info in that video and you made it look simple to diagnose even though i know it wasn't. Keith is a great guy and is always willing to help.
wysetech2000 thank you:) you are right!! Took me way longer than this 30min video and this made jaws drop in that shop:)) was a good moment felt good.. not sure if they ever seen anything like this to be honest.. I just happened to be there.
I wish I could have did this live it’s a moment I’ll remember forever along with everyone in the shop that night
@@robinsonsauto I've to get the same thing done to my trailblazer soon but I live in kansas city mo who can fix it besides a dealer
instablaster...
Just encountered this issue on my wife’s 06 trailblazer with the codes U1064 and U1016 along with B codes and and C codes. I’m hoping the computer isn’t taking a crap but watching this video gave me hope that it’s having communication issues. This video is pure gold! You explained everything clearly and with no confusion! You are an amazing tech! I am a mechanic but not on the scale you are! I’m just amazed at the skills you have! Thank you so much for giving back to everyone who may need guidance on these issues! Definitely earned a subscriber in me! Keep up the amazing content man! 🤙🏽
Hope you were able to resolve your problem. thank you for the kind words and sub
This is the best description and walk through on trouble shoot the network I've ever seen hands down. I've been to many classes that cover the network systems but never really understood it till this video!! Well done!!!!
Nice job. I spent 20 years in the GM/Delphi/Mahle Advanced Systems R&D Group and I run into dozens of guys that simply won't take the time to learn just a bit of electronics and LAN communications to help them figure this out. They show up in my driveway all the time because they won't buy a cheap scope and soldering iron. 99% of the time, as long as the Micro-Controller didn't get damaged, All of these modules can be fixed for a couple dollars and an hour of time. Best Wishes.
Hey man you just made me understand THE SYSTEM.I’ve been looking for this explanation for a while.now I’ve got to go fix a truck.thankyou so much.
This video is gold, thank you for putting this together and making it available for us! I found this video EXTREMELY HELPFUL & VALUABLE!
I subscribed to your channel a bit late in life. I just want to say your videos, including this one, shows Excellent troubleshooting tutorial/ diagnosis and repairs. You did this demo Without a breakout box ect.. shows how important having the proper wiring schematics and knowledge of how these systems interact. Keep up the good work!
Side note * this is an example of how important it is for semi introverted people to become instructors. No nonsense straight and to the task at hand. (Slow clap to standing ovation)
Mike Decarlo thank you so much for all the kind words and feedback!!!! Glad you found us~ means a lot reading feedback like this. It’s very motivating to me to say the least...
thanks again
I subscribed just to comment.
I’m having issues with communicatons on my 2006 Equinox. ABS/TSC lights. Also lose Electric Power Steering sometimes.
I have a tool, like your Tech 2 tool, that reads like your video.
Have similar error codes like this video.
Watching you go through your video, and going step by step, makes an old car guy like me happy. Been working on cars all my life, and yours made looking for this issue… fun and endearing.
Now I just need diagrams and pin outs like yours. Thanks for making this video!
Your welcome. Hope you get the issue resolved stay on touch
Will, it has been a pleasure to watch you grow and evolve over the past few years. The changes from where you began to where you are now are truly remarkable.
Paul E thank you for sticking around it means a lot~ I appreciate the feedback thank you :)
Great training! I, in no way am a mechanic and you made this extremely easy to a layman to understand with logical processes of elimination and even discovered a couple shortcuts doing so. My 2000 deville spitting out similar trouble codes brought me here after battery change. Great video and these scan tools I'm sure are leagues above my analog Klein multi meter. Good stuff
Great diagnosis... Very informative.. The knowledge you gave us is invaluable.. Thanks for taking us along...
MIKE CONT thank you for the positive feedback!!!! Means a lot. Your welcome anytime!!
Thanks for sharing! So much work involved tracking down these kinds of failures, and fun all at the same time! Tammy is a big help with filming/editing.
Bill K you’re welcome anytime!! Wish it was as easy as it appears sometimes lol took way longer as you know:) but yes worth every minute
By far the best breakdown explanation with no filler and fluff. 🙏🙏
Please come diagnose my 2016 Jeep GC 75th Anniv, NO Crank NO Start 🙏
This is a great video. Thanks so much for making it. Really helps to mentor us that are trying to learn electrical systems in cars. Awesome job!
Fantastic. I am highly trained on modern high and low CAN diagnosis and this still helped me understand single line communication diagnosis. Also it sounds like you are training Michael Shannon
You handled the situation very patient and clear very professional
Well done Will and thanks for sharing. It always pays to know a guy.
Thank you!!! lol absolutely
Great logical diagnostic routine. Keith is the man for helping you out.
Dude a million times thank you I have a duramax that I lost comm with the pcm, tcm ,gpcm and I was struggling checking all kinds of wires you just made this ten times easier for me to diagnose can buss issues.
This was a great video for me Will. I'm researching a intermittent crank/no start on a 2006 Dodge Ram truck. One of the many codes say it has a "no comm" but this truck doesn't have a CAN Bus system (pins 6 and 14) that my Hantek scope can read so I have to find a new approach. This helps. I'm hoping to get up there and hang out with Keith for a few days hoping some of his brain cells will rub off on me. Nice job on the video too. It was easy to follow along.
Will, you went all Keith on us! :D That was a fantastic, easy to follow explanation. One of my favorites. Thank you for posting this.
lol this was a great time to say the least... Keith is one hell of a guy, I’m not sure how he dose this every day 💪
Thank you for the compliment!!!
Best troubleshooting video I've seen. Thank You Sir. Outstanding explanation and walkthrough. I could pull a 1st year student out and give him this video and they will lean more in the time of this video then a week in class. I'm subbed and sending everyone here to sub. Thank you once again.
Thank you for this video, I have a 2006 trailblazer same motor and I’m getting a U1301 and now I know how to test everything thank you again, I work at a Buick gmc dealership working my way up from the bottom I’ve been in the automotive industry since I was 15 because my dad had his own shop so I am familiar with majority of issues but still need to learn how to diagnose properly and you just helped me get 1 step further, thank you so much
Your welcome! I hope this video helps guide you. I can relate to your story. Been chasing the same dreams from a child raised in my dads. Repair shop. Please share your progress I’d love to hear how you make out with this
Great work Will always enjoy watching you work through the issues.
Thank you Mike!!! Your support means a lot
Great Video Will, enjoyed it. That combs make diagnosing the network alot easier, that's better than disconnecting every module one by one. Great design.
DiagnoseDan Thanks Dan I appreciate your feedback👍 thanks got taken the time
I would have used a jump wire from module to class 2 connector while connector was disconnected to see if module problem, or other I\O , with other power connector connected. Powered.
If power and I\O are on one connector , then i use jumpers.
Bad-shorted I\O can pull a module down.
Nice job, Will! You got thrown in the deep end, all at once! Way to handle it!
roadkill5333 thank you:) so glad I brought my swimming gear along 😁
u r a great teacher much respect for your expertise
Jo O'Daye Thank you for the kind words!!! Means a lot
Thank you for this demonstration Boss.
Any time
Wow I've been chasing wires and grounds for 3 days. This is will make it so much easier to find the problem! excellent video.
I just subbed. That was an excellent explanation of the bus and how to isolate a bad module that was taking out all the others. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ROBERT FERRARA thank you 👍 I appreciate the sub and the positive feedback!!! Welcome:)
one of the best video i have seen great job i only wish that you would do more of these videos i was able to clearly understand everything you were saying except following the next splice connector
just so you know people are still learning from this well made video
A true professional, such dedication to the trade great watch
I like this video. Thank you for explaining IN DETAIL.
Now you’re taking thing ls to a New Level, Good one 🤙🏼

Great job with explaining everything. 👍🏻
hi, what software from did u get the info for can bus splice location?
thank you very much mr. to refresh my memory It is precisely what I was thinking of doing with the problem that I have in the car. Master, thanks for your help.
Great video and explanation of Gm class 2 operation in real time!
Very nice and informative video - especially since I have a no com no start to fix tomorrow...
Awesome video and very informative. It's nice to see a step by step approach that takes novices like me through the process of elimination without just throwing parts at the problem.
Immensely helpful.... I was working on a 2003 Silverado today with exactly the same problem.... the Alternator, ABS, and Airbag light were on and none of the gauges were reading.... the ALDL was giving no communication tho my scanners were coming on. Now tomorrow I will look into what the video has.....
Hope this helped out your situation? Thanks for sharing
Great case study Will! Thanks for sharing! 👍

Ron Baynes your welcome and thank you!!!
This is so valuable
Thank you
thank you so much for making and sharing this video
excellent job very helpful
Just went through this last week with a 98 Seville SLS. I just went through unplugging every module on the Class network until communication was restored. Found the VCIM as the culprit on that one as well. All modules aren't easy to get to so if it was a module that was in a difficult spot, this method would work best but I just got lucky I didn't have to go that far.
Levon Collins that works as well 👍💪 like you mentioned some are hard to get at. that splice pack takes a minute. Getting to the fault is the end goal~with many ways to get there:) great job!!! Thanks for sharing
Loved the video - THANK YOU!!
My favorite is when I get called to a shop to help them diagnose a problem and I don't even use my own diagnostic equipment. I use their equipment to help fix the problem.
Greg J Feeney :) that’s a good feeling indeed
Great video...so upset it took me so long to finally watch.
Nicely done, Will.
Nice job Will thanks

Great job.
J.R. Robinson thank you
I know this is an old video, and I'm not even sure if the information I have is correct, but isn't the datalink supposed to have pin 6 populated? The service manual at Operation CHARM states that the rendezvous communicates via high speed GMLAN and the class 2 network, and it mentions:
Home >> Buick Truck >> 2005 >> Rendezvous FWD V6-3.4L VIN E >> Repair and Diagnosis >> Powertrain Management >> Computers and Control Systems >> Relays and Modules - Computers and Control Systems >> Body Control Module >> Description and Operation >> Data Link Communications
The data link connector (DLC) is a standardized 16 cavity connector. Connector design and location is dictated by an industry wide standard, and is required to provide the following:
- Scan tool power battery positive voltage at terminal 16
- Scan tool power ground at terminal 4
- Common signal ground at terminal 5
- Class 2 signal at terminal 2
- GMLAN High Speed + circuit at terminal 6
- GMLAN High Speed - circuit at terminal 14
I got excited for a moment and double checked, and unfortunately female pin 6 was not populated, and there were only 4 female pins and 4 wires (battery, ground, ground, and class 2 signal)
lots of great technical information, great video, subed and liked.
Great Job!!!!
Nice find! Can I make a few suggestions? I use a DMM to pin 2 at the DLC. I use a BOB, but you said you didn't have that. What is that reading? Remove the splice pack and check the individual circuits. That would have taken you to JX306 and do the same. I'm not looking for any specific voltage, but I want to see activity. When you got to CK 1098 you would have seen the VCIM pulling Class 2 to ground. Make sense?
Another tip you may, or may not find useful - on the Tech 2 the "left & right" arrow buttons take you up or down a full 'page'. It saves a little time instead of using the up & down buttons.
Nicely done video!
GM's ONLY thank you for your feedback and advice!! Yes makes perfect sense 👍💪 great approach that will save time for sure!
