There was a movie made of this story! It's a silent picture.

As I was listening I could recall different scenes from that film - I saw it not too long ago on TCM of course. 😊

@@michellesheleg5895 I haven't actually watched it yet. I'm not a big fan of silent pictures, except maybe "Metropolis." I have another version of this story with Van Heflin. Good to hear from you. As usual, I can't sleep.

We lost Paul Frees way too soon at the age of 66 while living alone in Tiburon, California.

We hear him at his best (I think) in both Suspense and Escape. I have many favorites, but hearing Frees as the teenage hillbilly in "Snake Doctor" shows his great range of voices. He was also the announcer for a couple of seasons of Suspense (I wish he was the announcer for twenty years!) How's everything going with you?

@@SuspenseESCAPEremastered There is a television episode of "The Millionaire" where we get to actually see Paul Frees and as an added bonus, Howard McNear, Marvin Miller and Lurene Tuttle are all in the same episode! Surprised Paul Frees didn't do more television work where we could actually see him. He wasn't bad looking as is so oftentimes said about radio actors having faces only for radio!
I would love to read a good biography of his life, but there doesn't seem to be much on the Internet aside from the basic facts of his voice work. We lost him way too soon at age 66 living I assume alone in Tiburon, California which is I think in Marin County near San Francisco. Sadly most of the radio actors did not live into old age such as Howard McNear dying at age 62 and others dying at even much earlier ages. There are the exceptions but most died at what would today be considered an early death.
Paul Frees work in both ESCAPE and SUSPENSE is exceptional and I agree we hear him at his best. He used his natural voice in "Misfortune's Isle" and did an excellent job. I think he was about 28 years old at the time and the youthfulness of his voice is most apparent in the volume and tonal quality of the role he played in that episode. William Conrad uses one of the most unusual voices I have ever heard him use in that particular episode.
I wonder if they all remained good friends throughout the years they all worked together in the many, many radio shows in which they starred?

@@richardmcleod5967 Frees also appears in "The damned don't cry." It's in my Radio Theater playlist. Just now I got notice of your response, and agree (as usual) with all you say.

Hi! I wasn't ignoring you You Tube never notified me of your comment. I found it accidently. You know if I were you I would monitize. Just know that You Tube can take it away on a whim. But if you can make a few bucks why not. I am working hard right now to get my moitization back. They still have not given me any clear reason for their action. I have had good fortune on the medical front. I have found a good Primary Care doctor and he got me to an excellent pain doctor. I went to the pain doctor last Thursday. He is treating me with Norco 7.50 mil., three time a day and Cimbalta. Today is the first time in a very long time that pain is at a very tolerable level. If you want the name of the pain doctor let me know. I really don't want to post it on here. The kratom helped me some, but like yourself I had to take huge amounts and I just simply could not afford it. I am super glad to hear from you and glad your channel is doing so well! I wish you all the best and stay in touch!

Thanks. My notifications go on and off regularly, sometimes for weeks. I'm almost afraid to monetize because of what they did to you, and other channels simply vanishing completely. It's taken a long time to build my channel, and with monetization I fear that I would have to become politically correct. (I'm far from it!) BTW we share many of the same subscribers! I may ask for your Doctor's name because I fired my pain doctor, but for now my primary care doctor will provide me with pain meds I require. I'm gonna look in Kalamazoo area for pain specialist. HEY! Is my favorite cat Charlie still with you? I lost my last good buddy back in August due to complications from diabetes. As I expected, another cat stepped up and adopted me. He showed up at my door already fixed (and sadly, declawed) Still, he chased away the other feril cats and insisted I bring him in. I'm now working on training him. It's good to hear from you, take care and don't be a stranger! Give Charlie a hug from me! - Charlie
