About Your Instructor
Hailed as “a phenomenal, expressive oboist with a velvety dark chocolate sound”, Taiwanese-American Rong-Huey Liu is one of Southern California’s most active oboists, holding principal positions in the Long Beach Symphony, Reno Chamber Orchestra, Fresno Philharmonic, and the Riverside County Philharmonic. In high demand as a multi-faceted soloist, Liu has performed the oboe concertos of Bach, Corigliano, Ferrer Ferran, Handel, Kalliwoda, Marcello, and Mozart.
A versatile chamber musician, Rong-Huey Liu has been invited to perform as guest artist at Sundays’ Live, Grand Performance, Ojai Summer Music Festival, Bruman Chamber Music Summer Festival, Nevada Chamber Music Festival Summer Concerts, Chamber Music Unbound and Southwest Music Festival/International New Music Festival.
As a Hollywood studio musician, Rong-Huey has recorded with celebrities such as Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, Chris Botti, David Benoit, Ron Isley, and Paul Tuvman. Several cinematic sound tracks feature her oboe solos, including one written for Julia Roberts in the “Fireflies in the Garden”.
Rong-Huey holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Manhattan School of Music, and she earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Thornton School of Music, University of Southern California.
