Its good to see that former judges, civil servants and veterans are coming out against this type of judicial activism. The judiciary has a specific task and it must stick to that very specific task only: interpreting the law and making judgements in line with that law based on facts. Those remarks were not only unnecessary but completely unbecoming of any judge, let alone a judge of the Supreme Court. The said judge must be reprimanded because he has allowed his personal biases to malign this judgement. This must be declared a mistrial and her plea must be heard again.

Palki Sharma should always mention that the comments Nupur made were after the provocation by Muslim clerics about the Hindu Gods. Even if this news was for a different issue facts should be mentioned as they happened. The narrative should be set based on truth.

Palki Sharma starts the background by saying "She is the same spokesperson who insulted Prophet Muhammad". Get your facts right Palki, she did not "insult" or say anything that is not taken as a fact by the Muslims. Insult is what the previous speaker Rehmani did. Some fact-check would indeed be helpful.
You're right and WION is generally pretty well known to be unbiased but she cannot simply invite beheading or an uprising against her or her channel from the over-sensitive peaceful people. She has to make trade-offs to avoid Nupur's fate with 1 sentence of support to the peaceful community.

Nupur Sharma did nothing wrong. She only retorted to the questions posed to her religious beliefs. She did this by exercising the freedom of speech which is in fact protected by the same supreme court. The supreme court judge made a very partial and politically motivated comment and should be reprimanded to the fullest extent, if not terminated. I stand with Nupur Sharma in solidarity.

Nupur Sharma Ji wanted all the cases that were filed at various places to harass her to be clubbed and transferred to Delhi. It is a simple request. Judges did not deal with the case on its merits. They expressed their personal views which is unbecoming of them. Judicial arrogance is much worse than administrative overindulgence.

Few clarification : Firstly, Nupur Sharma said nothing wrong. It was a retaliation to the other panel in the debate who were insulting Hindu gods yet nobody talks about he said. Secondly, Nupur simply pointed the fact that their so-called prophet at aged 55 married a 6 yrs old kid and sleep with her when she turn 9yrs. This is a fact which is written in their Hadith. (it seems muslims are ashamed of this so they take it as an insult). And lastly, This "peaceful religion" is the problem for the whole world. The desert cult has nothing but hatred for the world specially people of different faith. Read their "holy book" and see what is written. You will be shock.

The protest against the 2 judges is totally justified. Asking the judges to withdraw their statements doesn't rectify the fault. Important is for them to tender a public apology on TV.
Nupur may have done wrong but that does not allow 2 SC judges to malign, insult, offend etc her name and character. That is not what judges are required to do.
In an unrelated incident, recently a judge openly rebuked and reprimanded an IAS officer in the court for not wearing a tie. The officer replied that it was his first time in court and wasn't aware of the requirement. The judge still ranted and raved.
And what business does the CJI have to make adverse comments on Indian politics while on vacation in the US ? Unacceptable behaviour.

You will see they have been appointed before 2014 by Congress and have faced corruption charges as well.

What is the actual wrong Nupur Sharma did? It's not like she made it up, she just read out loud what was already written. Is reading and speaking a crime now in India? I thought it was a democracy.

I fully agree with you about the fact that Nupur Sharma is not directly responsible for the Udaipur beheading incident. It was absolutely unreasonable and whimsical on the part of the judges to indirectly accuse Nupur Sharma for the Udaipur beheading incident, but again they finally gave the verdict for the plea that Nupur Sharma made in court
Why should anyone follow such a Sharia order, even if in writing? Nupur must not apologize come what may. Enough is enough. The legislature has given too much ground to the judiciary. Time to restore this balance.

Thank you , i lost the faith in India but now its rising again. The former judges were honest and good people , not money hungry and actually behaved like real judges , you can see the difference to todays judges in Supreme court. The current judges are corrupt!
I don't think it is about money. It is about being blinded by elitism, ignorance of real world problems in India like Islamic beheading followed by threat.
...or even plain fear of Jihadis which has made them lose their senses and forget their responsibility towards the Indian Constitution. The judge would be a better fit as a school's headmaster.
And they thought appointment through collegium will improve quality of judgements which earlier was getting affected due to executive’s excessive interference. With brainchilds like Doctrine of basic structure, essentiality, collegium and some others,judiciary now have some tools which made them practically unanswerable to anyone in the country including the constitution itself.
They believed and authored it in 80s everything in India is under judicial review, and today if anyone try to review judicial system will be dealt through contempt of court, asking for regulation of social media, is just another way securing themselves from criticism. Such a power tussle and the way these state organs are functioning as of late in India, this is going to damage democracy beyond repairs. Judiciary instead of considering appointment of its judges in higher courts as a primal affair should now get involved in a more democratic process with executive and legislature( the reps of people for whom constitution was written in first place) coming together at the table.

I have a huge respect on courts and judges I believe in judicial system than sharia law but I was shocked after hearing SC judgement on Nupur Sharma case , as said ex-judges came to rescue and mentioned over step by SC judge in this case. Kudos to judicial system.

There are multiple instances where Indian judges overstepped their boundaries to engage in legal activism. I think judiciary is the only institution in India that lacks checks and balance. The opaque collegium system further makes thing difficult. Although our judges love to tell everyone to accept criticism as part of democracy but they proceed with contempt of court if anybody criticizes them. Supreme Court itself ruled that judges must stick to the case and restraint themselves from giving undue observations. Still the vacation bench was interested in giving lectures.

In modern world why one should call these judges or jury as 'my lord'. Since almost 1.5 yrs I am running between police station and consumer court and know how they squeeze the applicant. Fair trail seems myth to me.
