This was AWESOME! The only one in Maiden I haven't met ...yet ;). That first Lionheart album is great, I know the guy who produced it, Kevin Beamish. Well done guys!
In regards to Sanctuary: Although the song is credited to Iron Maiden, according to contributor Dave Ling, the song was originally written by guitarist Rob Angelo, a member of the band in 1977 who was paid £300 for the song's rights. From 1998 onwards, the song was credited to Murray, bassist Steve Harris and singer Paul Di'Anno.
There's quite few early Maiden songs with dubious credits. 'Charlotte the Harlot', 'Strange World' and 'Prodigal Son' were all composed by former members who left before the debut album.
@@lmjones7716 yup! We grew up thinking Steve wrote almost every lyric and lick on that first album (and Prodigal Son), and time has proven, it simply isn't true. As an aside, Mark was really off on some of his Maiden info. :-/
Look up Lionheart's cover of the Chris Deburgh song 'Don't pay the ferryman' great cover from 'Second nature' Lionheart's second album which is a pretty good album
With this guy, (Great) Dennis Stratton, IRON MAIDEN, make a sound and an debut album that probably is one of the the best (IF NOT THE BEST) that they never did. That line up, with Paul on vocals and Clive on drums, was just perfect, fantastic! So in my (and many other) views, IRON MAIDEN in 1980, was the best album, and the best lineup that of IRON MAIDEN never had! 🤘 Off course, with Bruce they were also great but after the departure of Clive Burr, it just became another "ritmo" and another band from the beginning, Niko slow down and make more empty the band sound...
Speaking of "Girl" & "Do You Love Me? 2 bands opened for KISS on the Australian Farewell Tour 2001 on the Gold Coast. Ace's last official show with the band. The Screaming Jets & Kings Of The Sun. King's Of The Sun busted into "Lick It Up" mid set. Mike Rush Gene's guitar tech at the time ran on stage frantically waving his arms around telling them to stop, which of course they did.
Dennis lives in a make believe world where HE introduced Maiden to guitar harmonies. He also makes it sound like they were a one guitarist band before he joined. Yes, Maiden were without a second guitarist when Dennis joined, but for years before that, they had two guitarists (at one time, even three) AND they were always doing the guitar harmonies.
@Philip Holmes you're funny. It's all out there. There are plenty of bootlegs and radio sessions from the 70s. And guess what? There are guitar harmonies! Christ, even on the Soundhouse Tapes there are guitar harmonies - Murray overdubbed them. It was always a part of Maiden's sound; Dennis had ZILCH to do with it.
At one point in the '70s they even had a keyboard player called Tony Moore. He taught them all about harmonies and song arranging. It's said that he wrote a lot of material for Maiden but was paid off instead of receiving publishing. He later went on to play in Cutting Crew who had a big hit with the song "(I Just) Died in Your Arms".
@@themadmattster9647 dude, I thought I knew everything about Maiden, but just looked this up. There is evidence that what you say is true! Crazy! But my point is the same - Dennis is delusional if he thinks HE should be credited with introducing Maiden to harmony guitars. Anyway, thanks for letting me know that - very interesting info, indeed!
Lionheart and More co supported Def Leppard on the High & Dry UK tour & I thought Lionheart were pretty good but they weren't on long ,probably half an hour. Sounds always used to write that Dennis was 48 years old when he was in Maiden. They must have been lying or else he looks good for 90.
For sure he was older than the other guys in the band but being born in 1952 he actually was 28. Steve Harris and Dave Murray were 24, Clive Burr 23 and Paul Di'Anno 22
The singer before Di'Anno was Dennis Wilcock and he was a massive KISS fan and he even brought in some of the KISS theatrics into Maiden.
Guys, thanks for having this guest. Good interview all around.

2nd album was my favorite

@@83marceloa - I believe him.
@@lmjones7716 Sure. Check out Prowler's lyrics. Very poor. It does not look like Steve's style.

Killers is the ultimate Maiden album but they needed Dickinson to move forward and stand the test of time.
The Sweet were huge in Australia 😁

i saw KISS on the 1980 tour at Wembley Arena in London... Girl were the support, and they didn't show!
Girl got fired from the Kiss tour because they did “Do You Love Me” as their encore.

Never been a Maiden fan, only seen them once and prefer the Dianno era ....... I actually prefer Lionheart's more melodic sound.
You guys should do your homework a bit before starting an interview
Horrible audio for the guest
