Would really love for Hasbro to find the secret to having all those properties exist together. Great pieces, just got to find the right glue.
For me as a kid, Micronauts were right there with ROM, wasn't a fan of the toys but the Marvel comics were great. If I remember correctly, the comic had tie ins with other Marvel superheroes and I'm pretty sure the microverse in the current movies is based on the old Micronauts.
intzbk1 Yeah, the Micronauts met at least the FF, S.H.I.E.L.D. Mentallo & The Fixer; and I particularly remember Rom acting as Galactus' herald, and working with Mystique's Brotherhood ("Sisterhood actually, being her Rogue, & Destiny), against his Dire Wraith enemies. Both were pretty well integrated into the Marvel universe. In addition to occasionally still seeing Marionette, Arcturus Rann, and Bugg; I remember Marvel once brought back Rom and some of his fellow cyborgs, with their human bodies restored, in a new series, The Space-Knights of Galador I think it was called. It used only Marvel created material from the old series so I thought maybe they'd be an ongoing part of Marvel's intergalactic community, but haven't seen them in a while.

We're making a new version of $THING! I mean, it's a complete departure from everything that $THING has always been, but we paid a lot of money for the license, so we're still calling it $THING.
Me too. Never new they were the baddies. If you didn't know the Micronauts story then they were just toys to play with along with my Star Wars figures. BRILLIANT toys. Baron Kaza was obviously the baddie counterpart to Force Commander though. Always thought the latter looked like a Stormtrooper.
Jay Smith : yeah, he *tik* and Acroyer were my faves (yeah I know in the Japanese prototype-toys Acroyers were the enemy, but with Bugg we're talking comix here). I luaus wished MEGO had released a figure that was based on Bugg, or at least better approximated him. Closest I ever got was customizing/creating a figure to be him. The green Galactic Warrior or an Antron seemed the best choices for customizing.
I absolutely loved the Micronaut toys a child and I have to say that the Micronauts Marvel Comic was extremely well crafted and written. When I heard that the new film by J.J. Abrams Badrobot Productions has nothing to do with the original Marvel Comic series, not only did that make me pretty sad but very skeptical as well ! Like everyone else, I haven’t been too impressed with Abrams’ recent work and output so I don’t know how I feel about his Micronauts treatment. If the film gets made It will be a miracle. I just hope that the Micronaut toys will one day live again! Great video as usual and I look forward to seeing the next one! Cheers!
If this project ever comes out of the dark I hope its from a creator/team that were inspired by the original comics and strive to make it worthy of Bill Mantlo and Mike Goldens series.
sam torres I completely agree with you! If they can at least come up with a treatment that’s inspired by Mantlo and Holdens series , I think we’ll have something we can all get behind.
I LOOOOVED these guys, I had many of the toy sets as a kid. That vaccum tube toy was my favorite, turned off the lights and ran the glow in the dark vehicles through it. Good times.
And what they said about the script just makes me pull my hair out. "So uh basically it's completely different and is totally not Micronauts but....we're calling it Micronauts anyway."
@@commonwriternext Mandalorian was. Emphasis on the was. Star Wars is like the Titanic and Lusitania all rolled into 1. JJ scraped the ice berg. Re: the movie: If you're not going to follow through with a movie that is either based on the toys lore (though that seems to be very very thin) or on the comics (preferably in my opinion the original run of Marvel books), then don't bother. How many flops do they need to endure before they understand you need to be true to the story, lore and characters? Look at Jem and the Holograms? A huge flop, because they didn't even try to adapt the story. If JJ Abrams, or whoever ends up writing the movie, wants to do something "really really cool" but is not based on the comic...then call it something else and don't slap the brand name on it in a lazy attempt to get that nostalgia. Or...do right by the story, the characters, and give the fans of this property the movie they deserve.
Again, cool retrospective. Let's not forget that it was Michael Golden who was another driving force behind the 'nauts. Too bad he is no longer allowed to sell his prints I wanted from him at the comic con. Even Ken Kelly can't sell his reprints! ☹
I had the original Micronauts way back in the 70's Biotron And the other vehicles And most of the pharoids And have the SHOGUN Worriors 👍 Best days of your life
Being born in 1982, Micronauts was something that just went right around my childhood. I didn’t even hear about them until I was in high school reading a ToyFare magazine.
I met Ken Kelly a couple of years ago at a Rock and Roll convention where I had a table selling what I call art. He was a featured artist there and was being treated like royalty for his work on the Kiss album covers. He came by my booth very early in the first day of the show and was completely enthralled by a plastic skull I had painted, pretty convincingly, to look like dirty, rusted steel. We struck up a conversation about the piece and he said he had 16 skulls in his studio and this would be the 17th. Then for the rest of the weekend he would just randomly show up at my booth and we would chat about lots of things, even to the point of giving me crap for not being set up to take credit cards. Anyway, it wasn't until we finalized the deal for the skull that I found out that he was the artist for the Micronauts, which was much more exciting than his album cover work to me. He is a kind, friendly, gracious gentleman who even re-tweeted my tweet about selling him the skull. A treasured memory for sure.
I was too young for the toys, but I was given the whole run of comics by an older friend in the late 80s. They are unexpectedly great, and New Voyages ends in an epic fashion.
Once again your humor is wildly entertaining and the way you did this video is just amazing! This channel continues to be a wonderful source of content for me! The background information on the Star Wars and Mirconauts rivalry was so hilarious, I nearly choked on my water bottle when watching this video! Great job Dan!
Another great Toy Galaxy video about stuff I love! Thank you! It's a heart-breaker that Micronauts was so popular, but kept getting canceled for dumb reasons. I definitely had Micronauts toys when I was young (and mostly Star Wars toys after ), which eventually I lost all the small pieces of and the toys got thrown out. I might take a look on ebay to see if those renewed Micronauts are affordable or are still something I like to collect? I loved the Marvel Micronauts comics, enjoyed the Image Micronauts comics, read some IDW comics and until the storyline got a little convoluted with all the cross-overs. I would love to re-read all those Micronauts comics, thanks for reminding me! Also, you forgot about the Micronauts Time Traveler novel trilogy by Steve Lyons and the DVD Motion Comic movie both based on the Image comics storyline! I did a quick search on Amazon for Micronauts and found a Micronauts board game, a Micronauts 4 book novel series by Gordon Williams (that somehow no lawyer decided to sue him for copyright infringement reasons?) and some toy that looks vaguely similar to Micronauts called Morphonauts. Morphonauts might be one of those obscure toy lines you could do a video. I never heard of it before looking for Micronauts stuff just now. I do love Micronauts, so sorry about this post being a little long. Final note: I wonder if George Lucas was thinking of the Micronauts when he was talking about that unfinished Star Wars trilogy about the micro-biotic world of the Whills in that Star Wars interview with James Cameron?
I remember loving these comics & had a few of the figures that released around it,what i didn't know was how convoluted the whole story was!,that's insane, there are some figures (basic) that reminded me of the Micronauts (couldn't put my finger on it until i watched this!..thanks!),so will definitely try & get them,in so many ways those figures are the forefathers of the many figures that we have today!,great video, thanks for the memory 👍

Just a little clarification on the Image Comic series. That series was also by Devil's Due. It was just while the studio was under the Image umbrella. They left Image about a year or so later and went into full publishing mode. So at this point only three publishers have existed - Marvel, Devil's Due - under Image and then solo,, and IDW. I do recall the original Marvel comic being really good though and always wanted more of those representations of Bug & Acroyear. The new IDW comics were pretty good. Would really love for Hasbro to find the secret to having all those properties exist together. Great pieces, just got to find the right glue.
bjpalm1994 ROM, Transformers, Micronauts, MASK, wtf Hasbro? Get it together!
@@AC-gb7do I know right!?!😄😄
Whoof. That was a journey. I'm exhausted. Good job, folks!
The comic was very well done. I loved that series.
Also, a few years ago, Marvel mega I.P. Venom took a turn as a Space Knight. I also recall Space Knights showing up in Hickman’s Avengers.
@@ronn-ammon8975 The Micronauts also crossed over with Dr Strange, Man-Thing, and the X-Men- there was even a four-issue X-Men and Micronauts limited series.
@@ronn-ammon8975 The spaceknights series had ROM conspicuously absent. He was killed off in a flashback, and they wouldn't mention his name and drawings of his armored spaceknight body were replaced with shadows.
Captain Universe was introduced originally because of the Micronauts comic, and is still part of Marvel comic continuity to this day.
Long ago, I came to call Micronauts "the cursed property." Nicely done, Toy Galaxy. I totally approve. :-)
One of my earliest toy memories was buying a pharoid back in 1980. I lost the figure pretty quick but that time chamber he came with stuck around forever, i think i might still have it somewhere
God I love the Micronauts. ALways have. I've been collecting them since their initial release. I've had so many over the years. Currently I have none, but I'm going to restart my collection sometime soon. I just finished a re-read of the original Marvel series.
William Noetling I’ve always been a fan, never picked up the comics, and only had a few figures lol, but I just looked for them on eBay lol.
If only time travel was a thing. Sigh...
The Micronauts keep getting cancelled? Have they been bad to other people?
The Schrodinger's toy line analogy was simply brilliant! Great writing and very funny. Keep up the great work!
Yeah, man... The new intro header is badass. I love it!
Absolutely love Micronauts!👍
My favorites were the Aliens series! Love the colors and original designs! They are beautiful 😁
We're making a new version of $THING! I mean, it's a complete departure from everything that $THING has always been, but we paid a lot of money for the license, so we're still calling it $THING.
7:11 they get a horse they can "combine" with....
Vivid girl's voice: "ouch". Lol
I noticed this………
I can't stop laughing.🤣🤣🤣
I always *tik* pronounced Acroyear as *tik* “Acro-year”.
Jay Smith : The *tik* way he *tik* talked kinda *tik* bugged me at *tik* first, but I *tik* grew to *tik* appreciate it. *tik*
@@ronn-ammon8975 He was my favorite character
Jay Smith : yeah, he *tik* and Acroyer were my faves (yeah I know in the Japanese prototype-toys Acroyers were the enemy, but with Bugg we're talking comix here). I luaus wished MEGO had released a figure that was based on Bugg, or at least better approximated him. Closest I ever got was customizing/creating a figure to be him. The green Galactic Warrior or an Antron seemed the best choices for customizing.
Yeah that's what I thought too.
I remember tons of Micronauts in Sears. Had a lot back in the day.
I do have a few graded pieces.
I LOOOOVED these guys, I had many of the toy sets as a kid. That vaccum tube toy was my favorite, turned off the lights and ran the glow in the dark vehicles through it. Good times.
The in-jokes and sight gags are getting better and better
J.J Abrams attached is a kiss of death for a franchise.
And what they said about the script just makes me pull my hair out. "So uh basically it's completely different and is totally not Micronauts but....we're calling it Micronauts anyway."
@@kevinfisher5492 All that press release is missing is Rian Johnson's name
Ah yes because clearly after episodes 7 and 9 of Star Wars killed the franchise, in no way are they still making money

@@commonwriternext Mandalorian was. Emphasis on the was. Star Wars is like the Titanic and Lusitania all rolled into 1. JJ scraped the ice berg. My friend has one of the rocket tube sets, it was one of the coolest toys I ever had the pleasure of playing with as a kid: One part slot car track, one part Tron, it sticks in my memory vividly to this day! totally awesome!
But thy need the resultant friction between old guard and new to...something or other. Sock Gnome logic?
I'd argue that they even do this with movie sequels and did the same thing with Star Wars and strayed too far from the source material...
Yes!!! Why is that SO hard to do?! Just be true to the original story!
Again, cool retrospective. Let's not forget that it was Michael Golden who was another driving force behind the 'nauts. Too bad he is no longer allowed to sell his prints I wanted from him at the comic con.
Even Ken Kelly can't sell his reprints! ☹
"It was Schrödinger's toy line..." Made me laugh out loud for quite a bit.
Me too
I had the original Micronauts way back in the 70's
Biotron
And the other vehicles
And most of the pharoids
And have the SHOGUN Worriors 👍
Best days of your life
Being born in 1982, Micronauts was something that just went right around my childhood. I didn’t even hear about them until I was in high school reading a ToyFare magazine.
Mike Kaess Toyfare Twisted Theatre. Robot Chicken’s dad.
Cool story.
The original Micronauts comic 1-12 were amazing for their time. Really good stories and art.
I was too young for the toys, but I was given the whole run of comics by an older friend in the late 80s. They are unexpectedly great, and New Voyages ends in an epic fashion.
Hahaha a horse they could combine with... “ouch”.
Love hearing these stories.
Acroyer in the Marvel run had such an awesome design, would love a Marvel Legends type of figure from those days.
Hasbro could do it, they could also not be greedy and let Marvel reprint the original comics.
Oh I would dig the idw version of Acroyear.
Good thing we could watch this video before it gets cancelled.
What I've read of Bill Mantlo's comics were GREAT.
Micronauts movie by Jar Jar Abrams......nah he can keep his mystery box. The Micronauts have been through enough,
I remember loving these comics & had a few of the figures that released around it,what i didn't know was how convoluted the whole story was!,that's insane, there are some figures (basic) that reminded me of the Micronauts (couldn't put my finger on it until i watched this!..thanks!),so will definitely try & get them,in so many ways those figures are the forefathers of the many figures that we have today!,great video, thanks for the memory 👍
A beautifully done episode!
Now this was a banger..! Full of quality info on this long running yet obscure toy line.
Great history lesson. I loved those toys and comics and still collect them today thanks to Ebay. Also, I finally found out how you pronounce Acroyer
I had Pink Acroyear, Bug the Galactic Warrior and Hornetroid and I have to admit aside from the Star Wars toys The Micronauts toys were the ones I enjoyed playing with the most when I was a kid especially with Hornetriod which Luke Skywalker Flew since my parents couldn't get me an X-wing since my third favorite was my Space 1999 Eagle One ship and figures that they already got me.
I LOVED micronauts! My favorite toy! When my Star Wars figures stood stoically on the shelf, micronauts got played with. Still have a tote full!
Takaratomy still makes new Microman toys every few years. There was even a Microman anime when I lived in Japan. I have no idea why these geniuses don't just bring that stuff over.
As a kid I loved Micronauts, I still have a lot of the comic books. My favorite figure was Pharoid. I begged my mom for a Battle Cruiser, never got one.
1Blastarr : Pharoid's a personal fave, maybe second only to Acroyer. Battle Cruiser was awesome. Disappointingly in the Marvel comix only the bad guys had them
My fave was pharoid as well

Most ALL my coolest stuff slowly disappeared in my teen years, regrettably.
Once I build the basement theater I've got plans to include showcases in the hallway walls...then I'm going on a mad ebay spree to collect as much of that cool crap I had as a kid as possible.
I actually found two of my original AudiSee books on tape and one of the accompanying illustrated booklets...so it's a start...
Great video btw. Love this franchise. Just wish we could see the property back at Marve for comicsl where it was handled the best.
Exactly follows the publishing rights for G.I. Joe Comics doesn't it.
@@Beelzeboogie Joe was published by Dark Horse also for a brief bit during early 90s but otherwise yes.

I had a few of these, they were/are brilliantly cool, and I might even have one in a box somewhere as I saved some of my toys, while a friend of mine has a significant collection, as he not only saved them, but hunted them down on the web for years, and it would easily be the envy of every toy nerd 🤓 on this rock!
