    Hopefully this makes you feel better..... a little! 1981, Daytona beach, riding my KZ650 with Koni shocks etc. I went to pick up this girl I met, got to her place, the shoulder is SAND... period! I popped the clutch in 2nd gear throwing sand everywhere (Showing off) and the back tire caught the blacktop and I high sided violently throwing my right arm into the pavement at about 15 miles an hour. I am 69 and my elbow will still open a can of peaches. No matter how badly you feel you didn't do anything that could have been prevented with your knowledge at the moment. I have MANY more injuries than you will probably ever incur. You both do a great job considering the experience level you operate with. Congrats on the minimal bike damage. In my day you'd be paying... twice! Thank you both for looking out for each other and staying real about it! Nice job!

    A month ago I dropped my bike the day I got it. Not at the dealer thankfully but after taking it home. Got too confident and tried to do a U-turn in an alley without putting my feet down. I let out the clutch a smidge too much, engine died and lunged forward, I hit the front brake with the wheel at full lock and went down the same way you did. Broke the end off the front brake lever and scratched a bar end and exhaust cowl.

    We have ALL done it - so don't feel bad!! When I was 16, I had to drive my brand new Saturn out of the dealership showroom. The only problem? I had no idea how to drive stick. I bucked and stalled at least a dozen times. I could see the ENTIRE dealership doubled over in laughter in the rearview as I finally navigated my way out. I was mortified - but it makes for a great story! You will learn from this and not make the same mistake again. I no longer ride, but love seeing your adventures. Dust off and get back in that saddle!

    I'm new to this whole motorcycle thing and just recently bought my first bike, a 1997 Yamaha Virago, and within 24 hours of owning it dropped it because I didn't realize that the kickstand was not fully down. I learned 2 things that day, 1- accidents happen, that's why they're called accidents and 2- always make sure the kickstand is locked in before trying to put the full weight of the bike on it

    It's great that you were able to see your actions and know how to not do it again. That's super important, and be grateful that it happened at a low speed. Do what I do and call it your "one" because when you ride motorcycles, it's going to happen at least once. My one was back in 2009. 1973 CB750 that I just couldn't get running correctly (carbs.. ugh.) I was out on a test ride, after a long, humid, still kind of drizzling day, and in Texas, that means slick roads. I think it's pretty obvious what happened. I was doing around 40mph probably, and I slid for a good little bit, and the bike went further. Broken bars, lever, and brake pedal, but that was it. The worst part of it, I was still in uniform. And because I was in uniform, I had to call and tell my section SGT. I wasn't in trouble, but my NCO's made sure I felt stupid for months after.

    I've dropped mine twice. The first time was probably my first or second time on the bike. I was in my friend's neighborhood in Walpole learning how to turn at slow speeds. I started to take a right and a minivan materialised out of thin air. I squeezed the front brake while I was in the turn and the bike went straight down haha. That's when I learned that the Dyna has some sort of thing where if you drop it you have to turn it on and off a bunch in order for the bike to start again. I thought I broke the bike. The second drop was a few months later. I rode from Braintree to my aunt's house in Marshfield. Her driveway was on a bogus corner that people whiz around. I started to aim for her driveway on the left just as a car booked it around the corner. I twisted the throttle, hit a pile of soft sand, and vigorously dumped the bike right in front of all my relatives. It was sooooo embarrassing. I had a perfect late afternoon ride home all the way to Braintree, but all I could think about was the bike drop. That was years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday haha. Oh well.

    • @justinfrombugzy
      @justinfrombugzy 2 місяці тому +2

      glad to hear you were able to get into the driveway before dumping the bike -- there's a wicked bad pair of blind corners book ending my parents' house and I used to hate taking the turn into the driveway on my bike, basically just gun it 🤣

    I’ve been riding for nearly 6 years and I’ve absolutely dropped my bike. One time was while doing slow speed maneuvers and stopping incorrectly (like what you experienced), I’ve also low-sided twice around 25mph. One was when my rear wheel hit gravel on a back road going around a turn up a hill and slid out from under me, the other when trying to pull off and emergency stop into a parking lot I didn’t notice was full of potholes. 🤦🏼‍♀️
    It sucks, and it’s VERY humbling. If you can learn a good lesson from it, though, I find it easier to bounce back from.
    Glad you’re OK, and good luck with the inspection! 🩷

It was rainy and the grass was wet and it was my first time riding a proper road motorcycle (moving from dirtbikes) so I wasn't used to the center of balance and plopped it right on the ground. Definitely bruised my ego on that one haha. I've almost dropped it 2 more times but have miraculously kept it up!

    You dodged the bullet... On an excellent and engaging bike there! In all seriousness though, I'm glad you walked away relatively unscathed and didn't end up with a bike that you didn't love.
    Have you tried out the MT09 or (even better) a new Street Triple? It doesn't seem to me like you'd like the Street Triple RS because of it's more aggressive ergonomics but you might like the R. And if you don't like those you might love the MT09. The Street Triples and the MT09 are just such all around excellent and versatile bikes and might just be what you're looking for.

    • @justinfrombugzy

      I wanted to test ride an MT09 myself, but they didn't have one on the floor -- they DID have an MT10, but those are not for test rides as they're not covered by their insurance. I was jussssst about to saddle up on the XSR900 myself because I think they're wicked cool bikes, but after Bugzy's mishap, well, we all saw how that went! We'll have to go back to test ride some other bikes, hopefully soon. We do love it there.

    Sorry about the drop. Glad you weren't hurt. I think the XSR900 is a too much of a sports bike. Those type of bikes encourage you to go fast to have any fun on them. (Plus the seating position isn't that comfortable.) You should stick with the Triumphs, Harleys or Indians and the more "cruiser-type" machines, where you still can do the speed limit and still have fun (but they are still powerful enough to do the highways too.)

      @BugzyMoto  2 місяці тому

    Dropping bike's is something that WILL happen, its just WHEN, my 1st bike, a 84 CM250, I was ripping up and down the street on it(before i was licensed) and when i went to come back onto our front yard, I came in to hot and the front end kicked out, broke the mirror but i was fine, scared the shit out of me but i learned from it, my 2nd bike, a 84 VT750, fell over a few times due to my stupidity, broke a couple signals a couple different times. and my current bike, a 97 VT1100, although im probably going to jynx myself, hasn't gone over yet but its came close a few times, it almost fell off the bench i built to work on it, could of been bad.
    Dropping bikes will definetly always happen, no matter how experienced you are. The important thing is to get up, dust yourself off and keep going, learn how to recover from it, and although, it'll hurt the ego a bit, the lesson learned is forever!!

    Your not whack, it happens and you learned from it. All my accidents have been at low speeds. And most riders have dropped their bikes at some stage.

    Seriously.... all the way back to the dealership and you dump it. Thank god you are okay! Glad you are not on the hook for having to pay anything. But at this point, no more test rides, you need to buy a bike and be done with it.

    So far, of all the bikes I've seen you ride, there is one that really suits you the best. Size, looks, power, style, coolness, versatility, all that....the XS650 hands down! PS.....stay away from digital dash....so uncool.

    I would not trade either one of my Triumphs, but I recently rode the XSR900 and I loved it. That's a bike I would get to fill the sport bike spot in my garage. Also tell Justin I love the shirt. Would have been better if it was Aliens though. 😉

      @@BugzyMoto No I haven't. I'll definitely need to ride it one day. I only rode the Yamaha cause Caitlyn was trying a Yamaha Bolt, so I needed to ride a Yamaha and that's what I chose. I had no expectations and it surprised me. I think you made a better choice with the Scrambler. It's a jack of all trades, and I think low-end torque is more fun. I noticed you have to really rev the Yamaha up to tap into the power. But still, if I one day have money for a sportier bike, it's currently on my list! I need a dirt bike first though, and Caitlyn gets the next bike in our garage since I have two already and she just has the Rebel.

    Every new bike I’ve bought, I couldn’t test ride until paperwork was done. I had 30 min or 30 miles to cancel the sale. I’d be pissed if this wasn’t disclosed to the person that bought it.

    U grabbed front brake at low speed while turning, that was the problem
    Not to mention you grabbed the front brake with 4 fingers, make it even worst
    Same as your left hand, grab clutch with 4 fingers , recommend you change those riding behaviors

    I dropped my bike after three years of riding. I got caught in the rain riding for almost 45 minutes and then got to the gas station, rain subsided. I stopped with wheel turned at pump and stood up just to find myself falling. My bike is short and had a lower softer seat on (I’m 6ft) had I been on a taller bike I would’ve saved it.

    I spent an entire winter building the 78 Sporty and had convinced myself the only true way to start the bike for the first time was via kick -- I lost my balancr and dumped it so hard into the garage wall that I dented the oil bag and chipped the front fender ☠️

    You should test this again. You were way too high in gears. It actually tells you when to shift by blinking the gear number. It's happy at 5000 to 8000 rpm. You were at 4000 at most. There you're not gonna feel the power.

    The truth is you were nearly stopped and you applied the front brake with the bars turned. The bike instantly was to much for you to hold up. If you stopped with the bars straight that would not have happened. It will happen again if you stop with the front tire turned. You were stopping.
