- Assessment in higher education has undergone substantial change in recent years, but any given course (curricular unit) might not show much evidence of this. Recently, the disruptions of COVID-19 and generative AI have led to considerable reappraisal of what we do and provided an impetus to make lasting changes that we might not otherwise have contemplated. Should we simply try to return assessment to the prior status quo or embrace some of the many alternatives available?
The aim of this masterclass is to identify within the key purposes of assessment where change is most needed and what it might be desirable to adopt more widely. A particular focus will be on assessment that aids learning for the longer-term and which equips students to face the challenges they will face following graduation.
