From the sets I’ve used, I’ve not seen any noticeable abnormalities with the nd/pl. When using the pocket 3, this set and the Polarpro havnt shown any issues. When you start stacking the filters is when I start to see things like the X. If you’re working with vehicles or reflections, I’d definitely get the nd/pl.
It will depend on what lighting you are working with. Having a wide range of options really helps out. If you're just starting, finding a full kit can't hurt or the one I use has covered majority of the cases I have run into.
