      I really don't get the Chef Anne hate train. I've actually tried a lot of the recipes she's used for Worst Cooks, they're really good. I think it's because she uses, y'know, flavor, and that challenges the usual habits of a lot of the complainers.
      Almost pure speculation on my part.

      I object to the addition of acid to chicken soup that ruined an otherwise serviceable soup. Other than that I am betting its the god awful hair style.

    Personally, growing up in a Jewish household my mom made the best chicken soup ever and it was such an easy recipe. One whole chicken, onions, celery, carrot, salt and pepper, garlic, parsley, parsnip, Italian seasoning...done! It was delicious and dont forget the matzoh balls!

    I think y'all hating on the cinnamon is hilarious. It's a really useful sooce, and it's delicious. But it's powerful, it can be overpowering if you're not careful.
    You're all acting like she added ground charcoal and strawberry jam to the soup.

      She likely picked that up from Greek, Middle Eastern or North African cuisine who commonly use cinnamon in meat and other savory dishes. I know it struck me as odd the first few times I saw it added to non dessert recipes.

    • @feverspell
      @feverspell 4 роки тому +13

      I put a little cinnamon in my spaghetti sauce. Not enough to overpower it because a little cinnamon goes a long way, but enough that you know *something's* there. It adds a nice warmth to it without adding heat. If you've ever eaten Moroccan food or any other North African/Middle Eastern cuisine, you'll notice they use cinnamon a lot in savory dishes, especially when they cook with lamb. For a Western palate, it takes some getting used to, but it's really quite delicious.

    I'm guessing the actual episode of the show is _also_ this frenetic, and also has the regrettable music thumping in the background. Gotta play the Old Curmudgeon card here and say that I prefer instruction programs that aren't quite so "wham-bam, diggity doo, zing-pow" in their pacing and overall vibe. This woman is so messy splashing broth all over the stove top, LOL; mind you, I understand that's a style and personality choice-- just like her Catch-a-Wave hair is (hair is sometimes art, clearly). To each his own, of course, because some folks dig heaps of cinnamon and uncooked sliced apples in their rushed lunch. ;-)

    I get so very tired... of "professional cooks" on TV handling raw meat, especially chicken... and fish... and all they do us "rinse their hands"... no soap at all!! Now, you got somebody who has cooked for years, they know the dangers of cross contamination... but somebody just learning to cook very possibly may not! Teach them the right way!!! Several years ago in California there was a little boy, whose family went the Jack-in-the-Box restaurant where he ate part of a hamburger that wasn't cooked till the meat was done... Bear in mind this meat was already on the griddle... partially cooked, put he still got hit by salmonella and died!! That chicken has never been near heat!!! From a bacterial sense, it's a walking time bomb!! If you really care about teaching how to handle food and cook it... show them the right way to do that!!!!

    The Grilled Cheese is a classic. Recipes become classics because they simply don't need innovation. Adding apples is distasteful and unnecessary. Trust me, variation is condoned and approved in culinary field. Like anyother person, I like adding bacon, maybe some ham, sometimes eggs to my Grilled cheese. On the rare occasion I don't have any cured meats or savory proteins I'd even go as far as adding hotdogs. Adding apple slices... I'd be disappointed to be served such a creation. Like, "Did you conceivably mistake me a fool?" Or better yet, "Did you perhaps have anything better in the fridge to add to a grilled cheese than an apple?"
    Just. NO. NOOO. NOOOOOO

      "Recipe is a classic and doesn't need innovation."
      Except the inclusion of bacon. Or hot dogs, apparently.
      In all seriousness, this one comes down to the choice of cheese. Probably wouldn't work with a cheddar or mozzarella, but taleggio? Honeycrisp apples go really well with taleggio.
      It's like the cinnamon in the chicken soup. I think people are hating on it to hate, but it's actually a really nice combination.

  • @gullreefclub
    @gullreefclub 4 роки тому +1

    That does not look like any chicken soup that I would like. Growing up we would use old chickens that no longer were good layers to make our chicken broth out of and that the meat from them and make chicken salad. When we made chicken soup we used thighs only leg were reserved for frying as were breasts and wings. My mother would season the thighs with Bells Poultry seasoning and bake them until done and pull the meat off the bones. The bones would go in a cheese cloth bag for easy removal later. Additionally after the veggies (carrots, celery, and onions were chopped it and the pealed garlic would go under the broiler to get lightly browned and then go in the Dutch oven where butter and evoo was melted to finish cooking before chicken stock and a glass of white wine was added a salt pepper and dash more of bells poultry seasoning as well as a pinch dry thyme a few grates of nutmeg and brought to a boil and then simmered for about 40 minutes. The bones were removed and the coarsely shredded chicken thighs was add and again brought to a hard simmer. At that point a colander is placed the pot and noodles are cooked in chicken broth of the soup until al dente at that time noodles are portioned into bowls and a lemon is zested onto the soup it is stirred and portioned into bowls and served
    When I make bacon grilled cheeses I like to bake my bacon because it lays on the sandwich flatter and provides a better chew.

      My mother learned from her mother who learned from her mother....that the BEST soup is made from a tough old bird whose meat is far too chewy to eat but creates a rich broth after a long simmer in aromatics. I so miss my mom's chicken soup with thin, homemade egg noodles. The whole house smelled wonderful for hours.

      Animal bones are packed with intense flavor and when heated that super flavor seeps into the soup or stew. I'm not big on cooking (I can do an omelet) but I learned this at some point. Meat taken off the bone and cooked has a fraction of the flavor it would've had it been cooked with the bone attached.
