  • This is Seth's first time in the traffic pattern doing touch and go's! After years of training people towards their various licenses, it's the landings that cause the most problems for people. It's so tough to grasp how to do it at first, but it slowly starts to make sense.
    Enjoy the landings!

this guy is really getting his confidence on the landings. Good job, Lew, in letting him get himself dialed-in instead of giving him information overload that might confuse or frustrate.

Looking at the end of the runway and keeping nose there by keeping the pitch dynamic has been the best advice for me getting better landings. Seth's doing great.

A nice mantra is aim point, airspeed, aim point airspeed.... The when you essentially get the ground rush transition into a round out to dissipate your descent rate then transition to the end of the runway. The end of the runway is your Atittude indicator for rudder and aileron. 👍 Something we use in the USAF but we pull power at all different altitudes but I think this helps to think it through

Update - I made 4 decent landings yesterday and one really good one. I was most pleased with the one I saved though - started to flare too high, "Not yet!" from FI, relaxed back pressure, added a touch of power, regained it and landed OK a few seconds later. Thanks @LewDix

Great video and I agree. Landing was the hardest part of training for me. Even after passing the check ride I still keep practicing and still don’t feel as proficient as I should be. I’m safe, but could be better and more consistent. Thank you for reminding us that we are not alone.

Indeed the landings are the most challenging to get spot on, still waiting for my instructor to hit a hole in the roof after a great landing :-). Maybe I will have to come over some time. Cheers from Holland

It's the little details like, taking over and doing a short quick approach to show how it's done. That helps the poor student's pocket and extends training to more important stuff.

I've been studying flying with the hopes of training someday, haven't flown a minute at the controls yet but keeping in mind the little snippets of learning from your videos. Big ups man

Your a good instructor. Its tough to find fine line between being tough and fun. Had a great instructor for IFR training. I took off into fairly low cloud and instantly got vertigo. So I was starting to bank left and he say's " Captian Robert are we returning to the airport for some reason" went back to instruments. He was great!

3:40 -"...this is the most difficult part..."
I've done my own clinical research on this. By wearing a "LewDix Aviation Shirt" the conscious mind sends positive message units to the subconscious mind, thereby improving landings (reducing anticipatory anxiety).
8:17 - LewDix basically beating to a pulp any remaining known negative associations....
