Learning To Land A Plane Is Never Easy
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- This is Seth's first time in the traffic pattern doing touch and go's! After years of training people towards their various licenses, it's the landings that cause the most problems for people. It's so tough to grasp how to do it at first, but it slowly starts to make sense.
Enjoy the landings!

8:10 I burst out laughing at your reaction 😆well done!
9:12 haha man the balloon had me laughing!
this guy is really getting his confidence on the landings. Good job, Lew, in letting him get himself dialed-in instead of giving him information overload that might confuse or frustrate.
Lewis seems like the coolest instructor, total hype man and confidence booster
I'm my student's biggest fan!
That cheeky start was sooo funny god makes me want to watch some British or Aussie dry humor
Best start to a video EVER
Perfect timing. This is exactly where I am in my training. Spent about the last 15 hours trying to get the hang of landings. Still hasn't clicked, but it's getting better.
It’s tough, but it will definitely click your for
It will click one day, trust.
Looking at the end of the runway and keeping nose there by keeping the pitch dynamic has been the best advice for me getting better landings. Seth's doing great.
I so want the full video for the intro. I crack up at it every time!
I am going through landings in my flight training, I wish my instructor was as chill as you :D
“Tell me more tell me more, did he fu*k up the gear” haha thats some of your best work yet lol
😂 thank you
A nice mantra is aim point, airspeed, aim point airspeed.... The when you essentially get the ground rush transition into a round out to dissipate your descent rate then transition to the end of the runway. The end of the runway is your Atittude indicator for rudder and aileron. 👍 Something we use in the USAF but we pull power at all different altitudes but I think this helps to think it through
Your controller sounds like Mr Rogers! Lol. I'm learning that landing is an art, where your palette changes every day.
I'm doing circuits atm. At 9.00 I laughed out loud - 'your approaches are beautiful, it's just the last few seconds.....'. Yep. I know that soooo well ! Lesson tomorrow 🙃
Update - I made 4 decent landings yesterday and one really good one. I was most pleased with the one I saved though - started to flare too high, "Not yet!" from FI, relaxed back pressure, added a touch of power, regained it and landed OK a few seconds later. Thanks @LewDix
Did my first couple of landings almost perfect. My instructor was absolutely gobsmacked.....Don't think I've done it as good since....
Haha which is why it’s the most difficult part of what we do! It’s hard to maintain consistency. Practice makes perfect
Great job landings!
Nice job with the calm, concise and humorous instructions! Great instructor creating another safer, more knowledgeable student pilot! Keep up the great work! Walter from Illinois.
Thanks Walter!
Golden reaction from Lew dix on Seth's best landing.
YESSS!!!
Great video and I agree. Landing was the hardest part of training for me. Even after passing the check ride I still keep practicing and still don’t feel as proficient as I should be. I’m safe, but could be better and more consistent. Thank you for reminding us that we are not alone.
Indeed the landings are the most challenging to get spot on, still waiting for my instructor to hit a hole in the roof after a great landing :-). Maybe I will have to come over some time. Cheers from Holland
Love these videos! Really helps me explain things easier to students!
It's the little details like, taking over and doing a short quick approach to show how it's done. That helps the poor student's pocket and extends training to more important stuff.
Hey Lewdix... Awesome videos always... As much as the disclaimer is provided at the start of your videos, I still find them pretty instructional. I've been studying flying with the hopes of training someday, haven't flown a minute at the controls yet but keeping in mind the little snippets of learning from your videos. Big ups man
Nice job! Practice.practice, practice.
Trying to learn how much to flare is frustrating af. I always over do it, then under do it, and go back an forth.
"Wrong key" has been my most common phrase during my flight training...
😂
Thank you for reducing the volume at 8:17 and saving my ears. It's the little things that you do.
I'm always here for the people.. Got your back!
The controller 💀😂😂😂 fOLLoW dAt TrAfFiC
Teach them to remember power settings for different legs of the pattern. Usually about 2200rpm down wind, 1600 base and short final. Cheers!
Gone from a low wing piper to a high wing cessna. I just find it a lot more stable.
Go and see your Aviation Medical Examiner.....
@@LewDixAviation haha after how you were dissing high wings I was expecting to hate it but I'm far more confident in a 172. Its so hard to stall!
YES! High wing is king.
The controller cracks me up!
I do what I do, when I do
There were so many “That’s what she said”s in this video! 😂 Gotta pull it and hold it
I’m jealous of your avionics. The Archer my flight school owns hasn’t had an update in about 20 years.
Nice job
What a nice controller
Got to take care of my folks
Your a good instructor. Its tough to find fine line between being tough and fun. Had a great instructor for IFR training. I took off into fairly low cloud and instantly got vertigo. So I was starting to bank left and he say's " Captian Robert are we returning to the airport for some reason" went back to instruments. He was great!
Thank you for the kind words. Most of my instructors during training were devoid of personalities and made training more work than fun. I don’t want to be like that. Sounds like your instrument instructor was a good one
It's super easy. Make the radio call "Can we get a short approach?" Once confirmed by tower. Slowly sneak that CFI hand in there and "uh oh...you seemed to have lost your engine"
8:17 me when my mate finally says yes to go get KFC
At about the 8:20 mark...this is Lew after sex...haha.Lew gets rocks off when his students 'GET IT!
Yep, we wanna see Merv!!
🔜
3:40 -"...this is the most difficult part..."
I've done my own clinical research on this. By wearing a "LewDix Aviation Shirt" the conscious mind sends positive message units to the subconscious mind, thereby improving landings (reducing anticipatory anxiety).
8:17 - LewDix basically beating to a pulp any remaining known negative associations....
When your instructor is working on his manicure at 3:30 you know you are doing well.
Excellent video, great landings, great instruction.
How high do you come over the threshold at?
I love the Americanized version of the remain clear call, it was so unnecessary for the Brit to back it up. Seriously though, when is that video with Merv coming?
maybe they could do a Monty Python version of start up!
Thanks brother ! thats my downfall is on that last 3 seconds.. from your camera points i can see the relation to pull.. so thanks
No problem man!
Well sometimes you just gotta keep pulling even when you want to stop :)
Another good one is "looks like your flaps don't work...let's land with no flaps"
lewis, at what age can you become a CFI, i’m 16 but i wanna be a CFI bad aha. I just can’t find out what age you have to be, do you know?
In the U.S., you must be at least 16 to solo, 17 to get your PPL, and 18 to get your commercial and CFI rating.

Where did you get the led sectional that you have?
aeroluxmaps.com
Lew dix.. that right main wheel is wobbling.. not up and down, side to side.. this may mean a bad wheel bearing.. might want to have it checked out. Definetely looks like something is loose at the lower end of the back side of the right main gear.
Feel the aoa, feel the rudder, it's all about the eyes.
Putting the plane on the ground is easy, the hard part is putting it on the ground smoothly 😂
It's not so much whether the plane will be usable after the landing.. Will the RUNWAY still be usable? .........
First comment 10 seconds after video upload!!
"Let me know if you need a bit more trim back ..."
"It's alright ..."
... do you wanna say it, Dixon? 😏
You should all know that I don't need to trim the plane.... The plane trims me..
@@LewDixAviation There we go 😂
takeoffs are optional, landings are mandatory….. as i fucking bounce it in 2000ft passed the numbers
😂 We’ve all done that
Getting REAL tired of you allowing your students to have fun during and enjoying their training 😉😀 Hey does Flying Eyes sell glasses prescription lenses?
I know, it’s becoming a trend on this channel and it has to stop..
Flying Eyes have prescription lenses yes. You can use my code on them too
