Here it is -- on UA-cam at last, by FAR the greatest version of the "Yours to Discover" ads, and frankly still one of the best commercials ever made, in ANY genre. To me, this is Ontario's provincial anthem.
@@southsideman4891 ya but if you've ever been a tourist in ON, you'd find the locals really hate and resent tourists. Especially in smaller towns where they have a pejorative for every outsider including other Canadians.
Really? All three shots? Not just the walk at 0:07 but the remarkably quick gallop at 0:20 and even the jump at 0:25 ? If so, bravo. That's some fine horsemanship. It makes sense that it would have been shot in Gananoque, given that the military scenes were clearly filmed in nearby Kingston. Congratulations on being a part of IMO the most memorable tourism video ever made. Do you have any reminiscences of the shoot that you'd care to share? I'm sure that many of us would love to hear them.
Thanks for posting this! I was a teenager in Minnesota when this was on the air. The song has stayed in my head all these years. I especially remembered the girl at the 9 second mark!
Here are a few things that I wrote on the Retrontario site about this ad: Looking back on it now, it's astonishing how beautiful, exciting, even moving it is. Ontario's was a better culture then, a better population. It's amazing. We look back with awe upon past centuries and how much nobler and healthier their cultures were than ours today. But here, just over 30 years ago, we see a self-conception of a people that is so wholesome and clean and healthy and pure, whereas today's culture is so degenerate. It's a bittersweet sensation to view this. Also, a little research turns up some fascinating details about this video. 1. The building which appears at 0:16 in the video is, it turns out, the Frontenac Court House in Kingston, Ontario. 2. The crack redcoat riflemen that are so dynamically presented in the video are the Fort Henry Guard at (obviously) Fort Henry, in Kingston, Ontario. (They are shown at 0:15 standing in front of the interior view of the entrance to Fort Henry.) 3. The girl at 0:09 is extraordinarily pretty. I wonder who she is? Can't identify the historical reencators (or their setting) who appear at 0:21, but I'm betting that much of the rest of the content of the video originates in Kingston, given the two details above, which I did ascertain.
I was born in 2001 and I feel very northern rural Ontario (areas like Kenora) is fourth world because they have less access to healthy food, less access to healthcare and autism/adhd/learning disability/mental health support is definitely lacking in that area.
In Newfoundland in the 50's through to the 90's and beyond, when the fisheries were dying and the young were flocking to the cities and outside the province for work, they shut down towns and hamlets that were no longer economically viable. They did the same thing in Ontario previously when economics shifted away from mining, logging, etc. Same with communities centred around the gold rushes of the previous century: when it was over, leave. It was all a good move: no government or people want to fund that which is incapable of funding itself. It is a healthy way of thinking. If these Northern towns and outposts are no longer economically viable, they should be abandoned. It's the natural course of history and it's just common sense. Unfortunately, politics ruins everything and these small communities that live on subsidies are nothing but a drain on government and society. Canada is bankrupt, the people cannot afford such useless and wasteful thinking anymore such as in previous generations, there needs to be a massive change in thinking, no more living off of charity or other people's money. Communities that are cannot support themselves need to be shut down and abandoned immediately: keeping them alive is slowly killing our country and we can no longer be complacent.
This just popped into my head and I started singing to my son. Amazing how a catchy jingle stays in your memory years later!
Memories of my childhood just came flooding back! Such simpler and kinder times. What happened? I miss it so much :(
What happened? I dont know. We all ask that same question. Something went wrong, very wrong.

what happened? you know what happened. You have just been told not to say it

Its such a clean, fantastic, good and beautiful song! I wish is was made into a full song. I wish all songs had these elements.

@@crabbcake is that right? Sorry to hear. I wish them well
Good old days ❤
I grew up in the New York City area, and will never forget this ad.
I love this commercial. Why? Because I'm the woman riding the horse. Shot in Gananauque, Ontario

Wow very cool.
But you don't know how to spell Gananoque ?
this just popped in my head also funny. Thanks for posting this. Brings back good memories of my childhood in the early 80s
I love this jingle.
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reminds me of better times when we had leaders that governed for the citizens and not foreign agendas. Nice memory 👍

I prefer 1980s Ontario to the 3rd world 2022 ontario

Well pointed out. No economic migrants the good old days.
Wow I remember this when it was originally on tv
I wanna go to Ontario now...
This commercial aired in the United States 🇺🇸 to promote Ontario tourism.
Is it just me or does it seem like back then we had a unified vision of who we were as people? Now it's nothing but chaos everywhere you look.
Great little ditty!
District 9 now
Not 100% sure who directed but brilliant Peter James was DOP
He did an absolutely outstanding job. Cinema-worthy, feature-film quality, without question.
I prefer 1980s Ontario to the 3rd world 2017 ontario
CanadaguyRudey1 Third world ?
😂
Wow! Thats harsh
With Doug Ford at the helm, I wonder if they will bring this back?
Now no one wants to discover anything in Ontario. They'd rather be on their smartphones
