Sire R3 DS Dreadnought Electro Acoustic Guitar in Vintage Sunburst - bit.ly/2xLRfkB
Sire have unveiled two acoustic models: the R3 and the R7, the former being the more affordable. As you might expect from Sire, the R3 boasts top-class design and specs that far outweigh its accessible price point.
Martin's Re-Imagined Series represents the legendary guitar brand's most significant overhaul of their flagship acoustic line. Over 185 years, Martin's original and most discernible models have largely remained intact and unchanged, demonstrating the winning formula that they established almost two centuries ago.
Truly setting the trend within the industry, the Re-Imagined Series, however, marks a change. Unveiled at the 2018 NAMM Show, this fresh line of instruments feature some minor updates, with Martin ensuring that their guitars are more appealing than ever before without abandoning their roots and heritage, in terms of both playability and sound.

I can't imagine someone paying 8,299 GBP for a guitar that really has no signature hit. It's not like Duane Allman Gibson LP goldtop that was used to record "Layla" with Eric Clapton in a studio. You've either got a $ 1+M auction guitar or you have a $ 600 player model with the potential for playing the next "Layla" classic hit song. DA''s Gibson was traded for another LP model, he had to throw in $ 200 cash & a Marshall Amp head in the deal at Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach, FL. Even then, Allman removed the original Gibson pick ups from that gold top. Restored over the decades, "Layla" still plays to this day & prior to the most recent auction purchase, "Layla" was played as a loaner for anyone that needed an emergency backup guitar.
I'd much rather have Nancy Wilson's, 1976 Ovation Adamas Legend that she used for performing "Crazy On You". Any of them that she ever used to perform for any Heart tours has got to be worth way more than a D45 and sound better ?

I’ve owned a Sire R3 Grand Auditorium second hand but immaculate condition for just under a month now. I’m likely never going to be able to afford an 8k guitar or justify a 3K guitar heck I may never be able to afford a £1000+ guitar. Not that I’m hating or jealous of anyone who can, they worked for it fair play to them. But I absolutely love my Sire R3 and knew instantly I would never want to be parted from it. I love everything about it I’ll never sell it, though I do aspire to owning the all solid wood construction Sire R7 Grand Auditorium I’m 49 in February so maybe for my 50th.

Reason to purchase a Martin Acoustic.
Back in 2001 I purchased a Martin JC-16 KWS Acoustic guitar. Nowhere near the cost of the D-45 but a fantastic instrument just the same. I paid right about $1K U.S. Dollars for the guitar (and it even came with a real hardshell case). Fast forward to 2014, through moving to a different part of the country and in general honest wear and tear I noticed the bridge was starting to lift off the soundboard. I contacted Martin to inquire as to cost of the repair. I was given the location of a Certified Martin Repair Luthier and an appointment was made for me to drop the instrument off. 10 days later I returned to pickup up the repaired guitar only to find out the repair was 100% covered by Martin. Not only that they had updated the design of the battery retainer for the electric transducer and replaced that part with the new and improved parts, also at no cost to myself!
I fully expected to pay for the repair and was pleasantly surprised by Martin's Customer Service.
So yeah, if you plan to keep the guitar for a long time it's maybe worth the extra investment to spend as much as you can afford.
Sweet D-45 for sure, you really can never have enough Abalone!

My favorite local store sells Martin, Taylor, Gibson, and some other brands with high end models. During a conversation with the store owner he noted that from about $2,000 USD and lower the brands have about even sales with Taylor having a slight edge. Once above $2,000 the Martin sales numbers are significantly higher. The reason is debatable I suppose...but his numbers clearly show a preference, at least in my geographical area...for high end Martin instruments over all others.

Saw a bloke forget that he put his CF Martin D45 on top of his Aston Martin outside of it's hardcase and then drive off. I won't say that it was priceless to see the look on his face when he heard the noise of the guitar flying off the car and onto the tarmac, but I would say it was 8,299 British Pounds & taxes to the Queen worth the price of admission. The D45 survived that and was still salvageable for repairs. So he turned around to retrieve it, drove all the way back to where it came to rest on the roadway. He stopped and got out of the car and there was an 18 wheeler coming down the road. So he stood there in the middle of the road waving his arms and yelling, attempting to get the attention of the trucker who was eating his fish and chips and was too preoccupied to stop in time. 9 of the 18 wheels ran over & smashed the rest of the CF Martin D45 into splinters. Needless to say the D45 owner now had 8,299 British Pounds worth of assorted wood species sized toothpicks.

Do pro guitars come already set up? And is the $600-700 range considered standard or pro?

    • @devilsoffspring5519
      @devilsoffspring5519 4 роки тому

In the world of acoustic guitars, many people consider $600-700 to be bottom-of-the-barrel--and those are only the poor people :)
Yes, they come set up. But not really :)

I believe it would make more sense to compare a 1000-1500 £ guitar with an 8000 £ guitar because that's a more comparable and realistic option for most guitarists.

As you go higher, you get diminishing returns. There might be a difference between the 300 and the 8.3k but the difference will be much less almost indistinguishable between 2k and 8.3k. But quite honestly, playability aside there isn’t that colossal of a difference between these two

For the right song I think the Sire would be the better choice, up beat and forward sounding..
The Martin tone definitely draws you into it subtleties . More of a solo instrument perhaps not so much for cutting though a mix.

This is ridiculous, there's clearly only a $6412.32 difference. What a ripoff!
Seriously, I don't think anything compares to a Martin at that price range. I think lots of people beat Martin at their guitars for $1500 or less but once you get over that, it's pretty tough to compeat with them. They are truly magical beasts and at least we know where to find them...

  • @63stratoman

Hardly any difference sonic wise between a D-45 and a D-28 IMO! You are pretty much spending an additional 5,000 for “blingage” and little else!
What would be a little more realistic would be to put up a D-28 against the solid rosewood “Value” guitar you mentioned. I’m guessing there would be little if any difference in tone and playability. Perhaps the “value guitar is around 600 and the D-28 around 2,000?
Big difference is that the D-28 is a Martin and will therefore retain its resale value whereas the lower cost “value” model will likely end up in a pawn shop selling for around 150!
Case in point is a DYM-95C Masterworks Yairi that I own. Retail price was around $3,500 (USD) but I picked mine up used (closet queen) for $1,400 at my local Guitar Center! I would put my guitar upon against any high-end Martin but you would never be able to pick up a D-35 for less than half of the “new” price unless it had been run over by a truck!
