- What if Digimon 02 had more time to bake in the oven? This video will outline my contemporary rewrite of my least favorite season of the anime. I did try to consider and factor in some restrictions in order to prevent this rewrite from being borderline fanfiction. Hope you enjoy.

Takeru and Hikari being only original digidestined that joined 02 crew can still work without both getting sidelined and nerfed into anti sues
with you there I mean, they could’ve gotten more episodes, but they chose to slide them hard. I feel like they thought they couldn’t write a good story for them but you totally could’ve. There’s a lot of opportunities.
Sadly, Tri and Kizuna let them down, too. The latter, more honestly.
@@stephvondames6369 more reason I consider Tri and Kizuna never canon, not only 02(and i's sequels) treatments of Takeru and Hikari makes them both closest thing any other fictional characters treated like Ash in modern anime of Pokemon

Personally, I think Adventure 02 is an average series. You have some very interesting ideas in your version, like the final battle with Seraphimon being an allusion to Angemon's first battle in Adventure 01
I also liked some changes like BlackWarGreymon's backstory and the fate of some characters, I also liked the fact that Vandemon wasn't the last villain in his version.

I gotta HEAVILY disagree with making the way you explained how the DigiArmors/Digimentals exist. It goes against the lore that the DigiArmors/Digimentals existed in Ancient Times to help said Ancient Digimon Digivolve, as it was harder back then. How I'd alter your version to be more in line with that lore is that the DigiArmors/Digimentals are the Original Form of the Crests. Around the time where Homeostasis and Gennai were preparing the Adventure 01 Digimon to be partnered with the 01 Digidestined, they removed the power of the DigiArmors/Digimentals (making them go dormant) and transferred them to the Crests, to make the power of the DigiArmors/Digimentals easier for the 01 Digidestned to wield, and that when they "sacrificed" the power from the Crests, what they were really doing was sending the power that was originally from the DigiArmors/Digimentals back to their point of origin. I get this makes it more complex, but I feel this makes more sense this way. But maybe I'm wrong, let me know what you think.
I think the whole idea of Leader of the Digidestined is way overplayed. At the start of Adventure, Tai wasn't just appointed leader, it happened more naturally, where early on they didn't really have a leader, and over time it just became apparent that he was best suited to make the leadership calls - not the smartest or the wisest of the group, but able to call on the expertise of the others when making the calls.
02 didn't need a big passing of the torch moment - certainly not in episode 1. Davis didn't need to be appointed leader, everyone just needed to acknowledge that at that time he was the only one who was capable of fighting on Ken's level. He was the power of the team who needed training by those with more experience, and that's the role for TK and Kari at the start - assisted by the others, but with them all being busier they'd naturally show up less frequently, whilst TK and Kari could always be on call, ultimately gaining the ability to join in the fray directly themselves.
But even at that stage, with their shorter trips into the digital world for individual battles, the leadership role is far less critical, and whilst TK & Kari can still be giving advice, nobody needs to be "in charge". Only as time goes on and more serious issues arise should that even become a question, with the Andromon episode being the first case of that, but the capture of Agumon truly bringing that to the forefront. And Davis's character at that time - particularly in Storm of Friendship - needs to be addressed anyway, as the character wearing the flame jacket and goggles in that episode is not Davis as we see him in 50 other episodes. But I want to consider one of Davis's crowning moments throughout the show: The Last Temptation of the Digidestined. Here Davis shows what makes him am ideal leader; his stubbornness is weaponised to keep him fighting, his earnestness keeps him focused on the needs of the world rather than personal desires, and his faith in his friends enables him to bring them all back together to join him. _This_ is how Davis should be utilised as a leader - as the heart of the team. He shouldn't lose being brash and aggressive, though they need to be toned down somewhat. But he should be the one who can deliver a rousing speech when all seems lost. He should be able to call on Yolei's expertise, Cody's wisdom, and Kari & TK's experience to guide the team into following the best path, by refusing to ever back down for even a second. Storm of Friendship should show him upset about having to fight MetalGreymon, because he hates the idea of fighting his friend, but demonstrating his understanding that it's the only way. Perhaps it could be that during this miniarc that he loses his goggles, that they're shattered by MetalGreymon. But through all he's shown by this point, demonstrating that he'll make the tough calls when needed, and that he'll heed his friends - after they've held him back from acting on his first brash impulse - that Tai recognises that he should be considered the leader. Then you get Agumon apologising for breaking the goggles, and Tai gives Davis his own as a replacement, symbolising that he has earned the position, rather than merely being handed it.
I once had an idea where Davis actually leaves the team for a while and goes solo, because of how his friends keep disrespecting and making fun of him. Not to mention he questions his leadership role and gives Tai's goggles back to T.K., because he believes he is a better leader then he could ever be, but he still doesn't go back to his team, until he learns how to gain back respect from the group. Kari being the character that always puts others well being above her own tries to reach out for Davis, but Davis always pushes her away and thinks that she and the others are better off without him which of course makes Kari upset that Davis thinks so low of himself, but also realises that she and the others are also to blame, especially when they ganged up on him when Davis mentioned his sister. It would make for an interesting character arc and would have been a very interesting parallel to Ken who pretty much left his family behind and decided to go full on Digimon Emperor mode. While Davis is still trying to be a hero, he is frustrated weather or not it was a mistake of him becoming a chosen child or Digidestined.
That’s one of the many things that happens in so many 02 rewrites. Davis or some other character becoming an edgy/emo brood. I wanted to stay away from that idea because of how depressing and overdone it is.
@@AJSmashing He doesn't fully go emo since he has Chbimom/V-Mon by his side. He does go to the digital world solo and actually does his best with Flamdedramon's help to destroy some of the dark towers and helping other Digimon in the process. I even wanted to have scene where Davis and Tailmon have a heart to heart talk and she tells him about the loneliness and hurt she indured during her own journey, because she doesn't want anyone else to feel the same pain as she did. After hearing of what happened to Tai's Agumon, he does reunite with his team to help them save Agumon from Ken. And after he acquires the Digimental of Friendship, he does become more mature and actually tries to be a better leader for his team. And if things get bad, V-Mon will always do his best to cheer him up in the time of need.
One thing i take exception with, is claiming Willis the the digidestined of Miracles. he's only the digidestined of destiny/fate depending on translation. The only digidestined who actually fits Miracles, would be ryo, since he does so many miraculous things, like using other people's digivices, and working with non partner digimon while empowering them like he's actually their partner, then taming the highest level digimon we've ever seen on screen, and crossing over to another world and helping save that world while calming the hatred of Zeed.
Honestly, I wish tk and kari were utilized more in 02, they arguably have the strongest digimon out of all the digidestined, but I know that stuff didn't matter in the first part as the control spires stop digimon from digivolving, except armor digivolving, but still they're veterans, they know more about the digital world, and tk and even kari fought their fair share of strong digimon, hell, magnangemon defeated a mega digimon, and he wasn't even evolved to his mega yet, if patamon digivolved to mega by the end of the series, he would have easily taken out all of the dark masters
No he wouldn't have because remember what piedmon said newly evolved Mega digimon wouldn't stand a chance against a Mega Digimon with more experience so while Patamon would be stronger it wouldn't really be able to beat the dark masters
but remember, magnangemon is an ultimate digimon, he still managed to defeat piedmon after just obtaining that new level, and almost nearly defeated blackwargreymon too in 02, im just saying Holy digimon like magnangemon and angewomon are on a different level compared to other digimon@@godofwind200

We may never know how Tai got to the Digital world in the first episode.
I'm coming at this late, but I had a realization that, before Ken went evil, he had an 01 Digivice and it was used to visit the Digital World at least a few times in flashbacks. Looking back, it's not really smart writing if the mechanics aren't consistent; this also implies that Tai at least figured out his digivice could open a portal on any monitors/TVs somehow and simply forgot, as we know Ken could do this already and Izzy experiments with this in the middle of the show, but says nothing about it once it becomes normal to do so.

I would remove the whole Dark seed thing. Even as a kid, I wanted the concept of Ken, just losing his mind after his brother died and turning to anger towards others, and eventually being rescued by the kids. And then atoning for his sins throughout the series, culminating in him, finding the strength to forgive himself.
I like how you re-wrote the story it is way better this way
One of the many things I'll do is fix Oikawa up and let him fulfill his dream.
What I would do, is kind of revamp the elements from the show to properly fit with dragomon being the main villain of the series, having kari corrupted by the dark sea, creating dark versions of the original 8 digimon, and even have each one represented by a "dark digidestined" so to speak, except each one's crest would be the exact opposite of the original 8, even Ken's crest of kindness

As a massive fan of 02(Most likely the nostalgia goggles) I always wanted a rewrite. Hell, I want to write a fanfic about what if I had control over writing it. But due to some personal issues, I've never been able to make on. And while I do hate frontier, I can see why you love frontier and hate 02. It's just a personal thing.
Fair. Everyone has different tastes in seasons.
I really wished that T.K. and Kari's partners digivolved to their mega forms in 02, since we see them do that in the Hurricane Touchdown movie featuring Willis (which I believe takes place after Ken's defeat) since it features Magnamon.

The issues are with pacing and trying to do too much. Just cut the Digimon Emperor arc down, cut the entire 2nd armor evolution arc, as well as waste less time in the Ken joining the party arc, he can take just as long but get Owikawa and the backstory in there earlier, have him fully join while blsckwargreymon is already part way through blasting destiny stones. Dragging the Ken stuff out while speeding up the events thst happen during and after, that means he has a long redemption that goes over several events and blsckwargreymon being almost destroying the digital world and Ken come in for s crucial save would make the shorter Emperor arc still work for zken'a character, we don't need to see him being evil for 20 episodes to get he's evil, but his redemption keeps drama around for a bit. Especially cause once you hit the real world the dark seed stuff then hits better. This gives more episodes to involve a dark ocean plot that involves the daemon corps, gives more room to develop Oilawa earlier and more gradually and male it so myotismon isn't an ass pull. I don't care about any technical crap

Not having TK and Kari not being the leaders was a big missed opportunity on the show on a whole. They are the embodiment of hope and light, respectfully, and they, and their Digimon, know that it is their job to restore hope and light back to the Digital world. Not have them in background and have them there for the hours. They know Andromon, Whaemon, Liomon, and the rest, and the they've lost Digimon friends too, Wizardmon, Pumpkinmon and Gotsumon. They are the ones who knows what is at stake and should be helping the other kids to understand that. I never got why the Davis, Yolei and Cody are saving the Digital World other than it's the right thing to do. The other kids don't have any stake to the digital world other than their own Digimon.
well, about Ken, the dark spores\seeds came form Millenumon, the big bad of the wonderswam games and the reason why Rto's cyberdramon is so angry and powerful
Yeah I’m aware about that detail. I would make these events stay the same and just say that Dragomon tricked Ken into working for him because he knew he was infected with the dark spore, taking Owikawa’s place of manipulating him.

@@AJSmashing that would fit exquisitely well with MMmon abandoning any of the plans that failed, only for the remnants of those plans to be picked up and used by other evil digimon. Dark Gears, artificial digimon, the spores in the original, hell it's not even in the same continuity but making alternate realities to get your way, was also stolen from MMmon.
A few things i would change would be Davis getting to keep the Digi-egg of miracles instead of it disappearing after he uses it and the next thing is that wizardmon would be taken to the digital world to be Reborn instead of deiding after he gives the kids his message

Edit: On a more serious note, I do enjoy the changes you've suggested; though on a personal level I do actually wish BlackWarGreymon would have been a more substantial character, instead of simply fighting until meeting his match. Why? It's already kind of eluded to in the original show that BWG is and does want to show kindness, but is forced to sacrifice himself instead. (Though I do understand why it never went this direction, since BWG is just Etamon's Greymon from 01, so going the way BWG in 02 went makes no sense here.) That being said his death really isn't impactful in this video, to the story or to anyone emotionally, and feels like it's here just because BWG shows up in the real show.
As for the revised story itself, it feels way more put together and would have definitely had fulfilling secondary arcs that puts the pieces together for the primary arcs. Having the new characters actually grow instead of remain boring is great too.
Btw as somebody who has browsed the Digimon tag on FanFiction, a lot of stories surrounding 02 tend to take place _after_ the main events of the show, instead of during. Specifically, as the character's children who also get their own Digimon and go on adventures. I probably haven't looked hard enough, but I don't remember seeing somebody write a complete fanfiction rewriting the events of 02 (at least without rewriting 01 as well.)

I think the main issue for 02 is while the original season always continued with plot development in each episode with either a new evolution, battle with villain/build up to battle with villain, or development for characters, this season has quite a good amount of unnecessary episodes that retread old ground like the 3 episodes leading to patamon and armadillomon fusing was just Cody realizing tk isn’t what he thought.
And everything with the dark ocean went nowhere so could’ve been cut.

Also Iori having a dojo and Miyako being a designer makes more sense! Nothing wrong with being a housewife but it wasn’t giving Miyako energy
My favourite season is a tie between 02 and original adventure but I can agree with most of criticism the season gets like how davis might be a terrible character for most people even though I love him and the dark ocean is kinda really stupid
Dragomon is NOT a Mega Level Digimon, he's an Ultimate Level. Also, I feel like the Digimentals should have been able to allow Veemon, Armadillomon, and Hawkmon to reach the Ultimate and Mega Levels as well. BUT, to balance this, BOTH Digimentals that are used by the 02 Partners that have 2 of them as an option to Armor Digivolve, i.e. that if ExVeemon were to become his non-Jogress Ultimate Level or Mega Level, Greymon and Garurumon can't. The reason for needing 2 Digimentals is that since a Digimental/Crest when used on a Partner it is not naturally tied to, it only emits half the power it would on the intended Partner, thus 2 are needed to act as a whole. (Half power only allowing for Armor Digivolution btw.)
Digimentals are not evolution shortcuts, nor are they like crests. They only allow a digimon to done the armor and become slightly weaker than a champion Digimon.
That's how they canonically work. Hell they are also canonically not limited to the kid who pulls them. The outside of Wormon the 02 Digimon are incapable of evolving past Champion on their own.

@DrSmug-yj9ot But he stated that he was only going to use Digimon and the rules that existed that period, nor is he changing evolution lines. None of the 02 Digimon except for Wormon have a canon non-jogressed ultimate or mega.
02 is the Star Trek Voyager of Digimon. Not bad but the obviously squandered potential is so glaring that it drags the whole thing down
How does the "bringing digimon back ftom the dead" thing work when Digimln become eggs when they die?
@@ChaddyFantome it’s mainly for the fact that Daemon is evil and he probably found a work around to not only cheat death but forcibly manipulate dead Digimon data to not revert to eggs upon revival. He basically taught Owikawa and his group that technique prior to him being freed. Besides, it’s possible that not all Digimon come back right away as eggs.

@AJSmashing That seems weird.. Even in 02, Wormmon comes back relatively quickly after his death. Just took a couple weeks. That's not accounting for how it took time for the timeflow in both worlds to sync up after Apocalymon's defeat.
@@ChaddyFantome There are numerous digimon who fall through the cracks. Some digimon are just deemed to be no longer useful in the world, and their data abandoned. That's how we got Apocalymon. There's also numerous digimon who can usurp the cycle of reincarnation that's normally ruled over by various megas like Anubimon, such as the 7 demon lords who can usurp the proper cycle of reincarnation. Then there's questions like the artificial digmon, both VR and the ones who aren't naturally formed in the digital world like Kimeramon and Machinedramon. Diaboromon isn't a naturally occuring digimon, and the digital world wouldn't normally create him, or his evolution of Armageddemon, and yet, they exist.
Only thing I didn’t like is how they ended this show with Matt and sora together should have been tai!!!

Welp. I just assumed so judging from how many people talk about 02 rewrites.
Hey Tamers is my favorite but, I'm not going to lie that it's not perfect especially in the slow beginning.
I honestly now see Data Squad and Xros Wars are now my second and third favorites as underrated they both aren't perfect but they did their own thing and that's okay.
I agree with tamers having a slow start. Especially how the dub has to remind the audiences that this doesn’t take place in the same universe as the first two seasons.
And lastly, Ryo.
I have no hate for his character, but they could remove him from the series. All the time wasted on him could have been used to develop the central trio more or give everyone else time to develop.
@@stephvondames6369 I agree that Ryo is a glorified guest character for the season, but idk I think it’s a cool addition to tie the adventure universe to the tamers universe. Even if he feels out of place.
I got the entire box set from 01 to 04 I don't out right hate 02 but 01 and Tamers aka 03 are best for the first 4 seasons 04 is my least favorite growing up used to have a bunch of toys and a piggy bank plus got 2 of the fox kids 01 vhs tapes still have them not the toys and piggy bank
I am kinda disappointed in this rewrite form mostly because of the you handle the team dynamic with tk and kari and the 02 kids, and with tk and kari geting so mach of the spotlight and ultimates (megas in the dub) that felt kinda unearnd.
To be honest this feels like a bad fanfic that tries to make all the Ls tk and kari had through 02 and just make them Ws not really giving me a reason to care about tk kari or their relashionship.
And for the 02 kids they feels like they barely had any importance to in the secend half and they ware sidelined for tk and kari development same with the jogress evos for the ultimates/magas.
But i know how hard it is to write. 02 it of itself is not really an amazing piece of media and trying to rewrite a series that you hate is not easy and your bound to give your favs the spotlight more often.
So kudos you for this dreft and in general for the video. hope you write more things.
I mean I agree 0 to need some rewrite definitely for short but I wouldn't go so far saying that it's the worst series out of all of the Digimon series That's probably Digimon fusion honestly since it was the series that kind of ended the support outside of Japan for Digimon that series need Jesus more so than anything and then of course the black sheep of the Digimon family which is Digimon frontier which isn't a bad show but that's another one that people love to crap on I've never really seen anybody crap on 02 so I don't really know what you talking about when it comes to is probably the worst one no it's a sequel series and it doesn't live up to the original one as best as it can but it tries its best to balance everything out I know there was a lot of behind the scenes issues that they wanted to do that they couldn't do at the time but other than that it's a sufficeful series especially for a sequel series honestly could have used a rewrite for certain things of course it could but let's be honest I'll take this over them doing whatever they did with adventure One when they tried to reboot it cuz that was garbage
I agree. The English dub of Fusion is probably worse than 02. But if we’re talking about the quality of either season, dubbed or subbed. 02 would be considered the worst.
I feel you could've done a "no Digimon made past 2002" rule since Digimon Adventure 02 took place in 2002. Probably would at least allow Ophanimon and Lilithmon to be things since the former was made in 2001 (Late Tamers era V-Pet shenanigans) and the latter in 2002. Hell, I'm amazed Golddramon wasn't used; he fits in the timeline even if people have issues with the Holy Dragons.
I'm glad the silly Rocket guys lived at least, but I don't care for the excess Angelwank (I'm not a Takarifriend and I don't feel they have the charisma to be MCs as much as Daisuke "Davis" Motomiya is VERY polarizing). Semi-related commentary: I'd deus ex machina Aquilamon and Ankylomon being to naturally evolve into Silphymon and Shakkoumon near the end of the show, even if they just end up the clean up crew.
As a Digimon fan, I know how most of the episodes can be confusing, especially with the DNA Digivolution partners. Still, if I were to rewrite 02, I'd change the DNA Digivolution Jogress duos to T..K./Kari, Ken/Cody, Meiko/Willis, and Davis/Yolei.
Those DNA Digivolution duos could've worked better in my opinion.
Plus, Digimon Adventure 02 would've featured a crossover with the animated films of Walt Disney Pictures and PIXAR's Toy Story and A Bug's Life.
