Fun experiment! Next time, you may also want to try washing the floss between soda ash treatment and steeping. Many natural pigments are pH dependent, changing color depending on whether in acidic or basic solutions. Anthocyanin is a very common pigment in nature and changes from red/pink in acid to purple at neutral to green in basic pH. Soda ash is very basic and may explain why the rose petal and maple dyes changed to green. Try adding vinegar or lemon juice! Good luck!

This was so interesting. I just watched a video using avocado pits and skins and one using onion skins. I’m going to try both soon using fabric.
