You are absolutely right sir..I went last year to Florence Indiana to see them. Was a 4 hour drive and a hotel stay the whole thing was like $600 but WELL WORTH IT
My Girlfriend Jessica passed away in Texas at the age of 31. (September 2022) She was actually clean & sober for a year. She glowed Jesus. However she passed away from Heart Troubles. She wanted to be laid to rest next to her little Brother’s Grave back in Jackson, Tennessee. (Where we first met.) When my Work here is finished & God Almighty calls me home. I will be laid to rest there as well. I always cherish the memories. My only regret is that we didn’t get hitched. I have been a Diamond Rio Fan since I was a Teen. Never heard this song before though. It speaks every thang I feel inside with volumes. Much obliged to Y’all! ✨👏🏻✨❤️🔥
I lost my baby this coming nov.22 I'm ripped apart daily, u would out of your mind if ucan get over your 1 and only love of your life,. The bad news is she's gone
I've listened to this song a thousand times in two years. Diamond Rio needs more recognition. I lost my wife in 2023. She was 52. We grew up in the country two miles apart, I don't remember a time that she wasn't in my life somehow, we were always best friends. We both got married young but still kept in touch. After we were both divorced we ran into each other and she confessed that she loved me when we were still kids and I confessed to her that I'd loved her since I was 15. It took 30 years before my childhood dream came true and we got married. Our love is something from a storybook. She was my world, a faithful wife, a wonderful mother to our kids and the best Nana to our grandbabies. I lost her to a blood clot one morning. I didn't know why except that God had better plans for her.
"I said hey I think I'm broken and though I was only joking, it took me by surprise when you agreed" is easily one of the top 3 greatest opening lines to a song. Diamond Rio was and is a great songwriting band. I miss this era of country. I still listen to Hank sr and think WTF happened to country music?
So many good tracks. Norma jean Riley, Meet in the middle, One more day, Kentucky Mine there are several more I feel like they get overlooked in the GOAT conversation. I definitely think they are up there with some of the best.
I looked this song up after watching a Paul Williams interview on UA-cam about Paul writing “Rainbow Connection.” At the end of the interview,he talked a little about writing this song, and I just had to hear it. 🥲
One of the best songs ever. The lyrics and harmonies are unbelievable. Cannot believe they weren’t recognized more for this song. It’s just true artistry.
I lost my dad when I was 13 yes old and I agree. My brother committed suicide I. 2011 he was my best friend at that point in life. This song tears me up 💓
My Mamma passed in 2020. The closest I was ever able to get to her was during the last few months of her life. We always talked on the phone, but lived in different states. But I made several trips to care for her during her last months. I know more about her now than I did when she was alive. I wish so much that she would have opened up to me. I miss our calls. I just miss her so much. She was a beautiful lady and a great mother to four children. She suffered in silence. I love you and miss you so much Mamma!😢❤
I just heard them 2 days ago and unfortunately they have so many hits that they now sing this in a medley. Was waiting to hear this played. They sound so good 30+ years on, with Carson playing now, plus they used a backup player on banjo that night, a 16 yr old boy from Dollywood, pretty cool!
On September 18th of this year, my beautiful bride passed. I found this song today, and my heart shattered again. It is hard to live in the shadow of her love! Thank you for making me feel again!
My brother-in-law died in a car crash one year ago this week, far too soon for a man who was far too young. He was a big man with a bigger heart, a gentle giant who left people around him better for having known him. He touched so many people's lives -- his wife, parents, siblings, and many neices and nephews, not to mention his countless friends. To meet him once was to be his friend, whether you were the server at his favorite restaurant or a customer at his business. And when a customer was just a little short this time, he would still happily do the job as if it were the most important thing he was doing at the time.Things weren't always easy for him; yet he never would complain. That wasn't his way. He didn't want others to be worrying over him.I can't believe it's been a year since the last time we saw him. Time passes quickly, somtimes far too much so.If any good has come from his being gone, it's the constant reminder I have to enjoy the life in front of me, and to make sure I spend some time each day making life better for someone else.Thank you, John for being my brother-in-law and for welcoming me into your family all those years ago.I love you, John and I miss you.
This song has meant much to me for several reasons over the years. But those reasons pale as I read this beautiful tribute to your brother, John. I will not ever hear this song again without a prayer for you and all who knew John. We will all see each other again in our Home! God bless.
This is one of the most heart-wrenching songs I’ve ever heard. At 2:55 it sounds like someone reached in his chest and squeezed his heart till it burst. Then the instrumentals come in to sweep you into a whirlwind of emotions. Pure genius lyrically, musically, and vocally.
This is a definite accurate comment. This song definitely squeezes every single emotion outta u. I love this song. It randomly popped into my head one night doing a facial & here I'am listening again. It's painful but beautiful!! ♥️
That harmony at 2:53 . I don't know how many times that has triggered a wave of crying out in tears for my wife. Gone 7 years and I miss her more every day. I'm old, I'm tired and I'm ready to go home and lay my head on her chest. Let me rest.
I have tears running down my face as I write this, I messed up and lost the love of my life. She found me and bless her heart she pulled me up. I will always love her for that even tho we'll never be together again.😥😢
Wow. If ever there were a song deserving of more views, this would be it. Diamond Rio never got their due as a group, IMO, because Alabama and Brooks & Dunn dominated for so long. But, man, they're really a great group. I hope they're still making music today.
They are still making music today. They have a new album out "I Made It". But sad to say their tours are sad to see. Playing at music festivals & fairs, although they are part of the Country Cruise 14-19 January 2017. Their complete tour schedule is at www.diamondrio.com/site/tourevents/
This song was on the radio constantly when I was in a pretty dark place. It helped me put everything in perspective and move on. I look back on those days now and realize there was a bigger plan.
Awww, so sorry about your loss. I truly understand how it feels losing a loved one, my wife passed while having our daughter, wasn't easy for me though but I'm grateful to God for today 🙏. My deep and sincere condolences, how have you been? 🌺 😢
Aint that the truth son, she was the best thing to ever happen to me and i just let it go, im only 17 and ik that she was the one, it was love at first sight and now shes gone, thats something that a guy just cant forget ever, im never going to find someone like her
And i wonder if she still thinks of me, if she still cares but mostly if she would ever give me a second chance, i know what i lost and how bad i need her
"And I bless the day I met you and I thank God...." Those words have never meant so much to me as they do now. I know this has a different meaning but we lost our son six years ago three days after turning 22 and it just makes me think of him. I love this group.
I still have no idea how this song only has 2 million views! So much emotion comes over me when I hear it! Forever a remedy for all of the broken hearted!! 😘
February 9 2021. Lost my wife of 30 years. She took her own life. Ill never know why. I love and miss her so much. This song says so much about us....for everyone who has lost a loved one. My heart goes out to all of you..
Sometimes we never know why people do the things they do, somehow in their minds it seems the only way out at the time. Rest assured your love was a comfort to her, and without the knowledge of that she might have been gone long before.
I said hello I think I'm broken And though I was only jokin' It took me by surprise when you agreed I was tryin' to be clever For the life of me I never Would have guessed how far the simple truth would lead You knew all my lines You knew all my tricks You knew how to heal that pain No medicine can fix And I bless the day I met you And I thank God that He let you Lay beside me for a moment that lives on And the good news is I'm better For the time we spent together And the bad news is you're gone Lookin' back it's still surprisin' I was sinking you were rising With a look you caught me in mid-air Now I know God has His reasons But sometimes it's hard to see them When I awake and find that you're not there You found hope in hopeless Your made crazy sane You became the missing link That helped me break my chains And I bless the day I met you And I thank God that He let you Lay beside me for a moment that lives on And the good news is I'm better For the time we spent together And the bad news is you're gone The bad news is you're gone
As I understand it, the writer of this song was an alcoholic and lost his wife before he got his life together. But is certainly applies to all of us who have lost someone we love.
@DonLove Paul Williams AND John Fenster wrote this after Paul moved to Nashville..Inspiration from the fact both had sobered up after a woman told them good bye..paul talks about it in the video the story behind the song..the Rainbow Connection
My friend it has been a long time since I posted this comment. I'm guessing you are working through a loss of someone special. I am sincerely sorry. My philosophy is that all of us have a certain quota of sadness we need to work through before we can move on. Embrace it. Be sad. Be angry. `Yell at your toaster oven. Share a beverage with the potted plant you never really liked. Walk somewhere you never normally go. Get it out. Someday, I believe, I hope, life will be worth looking forward to. You will use up your sadness quota. And I think you will find something else emotionally to do. But until you get there it really sucks. Good luck my friend.
This is one of the most touching songs ever. Absolutely beautiful. Diamond Rio had such great talent in both instruments and voices. They had so many great songs that never made it to number 1 because of other great songs by other great musical artists like Reba, Brooks and Dunn and Alan Jackson. Alabama literally ruled the 80's in country music but by the 90's they had been slipping back some and their songs weren't as good as the song they had in the 80's. IMO, Diamond Rio should have had way more number 1 songs than they had.
Still believe they are one of the greatest bands of country over the last 40 years. The music, the harmony, the deep interpretation of the lyrics. Great music.
2022 here. With Marty singing and Gene and Dana's harmonies, they just complement each other so well. Throw in Jimmy on guitar. Diamond Rio is one of the best country bands ever.
This song brings back so many memories. My first love, my best friend, my lover and the father of our children. 16 years gone, but never, ever forgotten. Sending love to heaven. I know your watching over us. We miss you. We love you.
My husband committed suicide in front of me two weeks ago. We met in a hospital while getting help for our individual mental health issues and we were a beautiful love story.
Oh my God, I am just now reading your post. I am so sorry. As one who has lost the love of his life, I feel for you. No matter the circumstances, losing the one you love is a heartbreak like no other. You're not alone.
Trina Cameron so so sorry for your loss, I know you have heard it a thousand times, please be strong, find positive things you remember, don't give up please!
I love The Music of Diamond Rio. Especially this beautiful song. It helped me get thru losing my Spouse to NSCLC the First week of Nov.2020 ...RIP M.J. We will meet again.
Back in the day, this song was everything. From the first moment I heard it til this day. The piano music is the main reason I've always wanted to learn how to play. Ahhhh...so good!!
Now create new ones! Better ones. Time to say good bye and put to rest when ready. Start over. You're still alive and new memories and beautiful ones are waiting to be made with someone else. This I promise. Time to heal!
I played this song at my husband's funeral he had a massive heart attack he was 58 years old this is one of his favorite songs he had so many friends he didn't know a stranger and there wasn't a dry eye in that place it was just like they were singing about him 😢
Awww, so sorry about your loss Josephine, I truly understand how it feels losing a loved one. My wife passed while having our daughter, wasn't easy for me though but I'm grateful to God for today 🙏. My deep and sincere condolences, how have you been? 🌺 😢
Lost my wife this year of 23 yrs and it never gets easier to say goodbye but this best things we had overshadow all all of any bad life can give, she was taken way too soon 😢 I pray the pain of loss subsides in time but i do wish things were different 🥺 thank God for the time I was blessed to have her in my life and the daughter we have together, I pray you're looking down and proud of the woman she is becoming ❤️
I was in a dark place in my life when I met her. She saved me from my self. We're no longer together after 18 years but we still talk on occasion. This song could not be more of what I did say to her when she found me, life happens, but yes, she's gone.
I dedicate this to my Late husband 2022. He was a alcoholic but I changed him for the better, he gave it up and gave him a reason to Not drink again! Our only child! R. I. P. My rock!!
At 3:11, I love it when Jimmy Olander cuts out on the lead with that acoustic guitar. I just love the sound of lead being played on an acoustic guitar.
God Bless all of you good people who have good hearts, morals, and love for mankind. I lost my Dad..my hero, my best friend, and a great father and teacher to me 3 years ago. It still hurts each and every day that passes and I wish there was some way to still love him in person. I love you Dad and miss you so much! Bob
Just watched them at the Coontry Reporter Festival and DAMN they still got it!!!!!! It was such a great show with impeccable vocals!!! Wishing most were not sitting as I wanted to dance so badly but didn’t want to block the view. Legendary artists!
im listening to this song after my brother in law passed..just a couple of days ago:'( he was in a work accident & didnt make it. it was instant & then he just was gone. i cant stop crying everytime i think of a memory of him, he loved my sister and his two little girls so much. he did all those little things that a dad does when he has daughters. my heart is just torn, that he left so suddenly & no one should die like that, everyone should be able to grow old & die in their warm beds after having grandchildren & great grandchildren. he was only 31 yrs old. & he did his best at everything he did. he was a risk taker(for good things) a slight perfectionist and a giver. he just helped everyone he could wherever he could. God has his reasons & i know he's in heaven racing his cars & just taking it easy. he will be in our hearts forever & he was just a great person. love you Saul, my 2nd brother in law.
thank you all for your kind words & prayers, God bless y'all too. today is the one year anniversary that he passed, so I'm over here listening & crying again.
Stephanie Wilson-- um.... if your husband saved you, wouldn't it be kind of backwards to play this at your funeral? Wouldn't you play it at his since he'd done the saving? Jw.
Diamond Rio,….Another wonderful band that creates awesome music, & adds to it a story, that I think we can all say we’ve experienced? Whether they were gone because of leaving, or gone because they passed, However, This Song always takes me back to the “Gone” I experienced….Sigh.
THE....most underrated and Amazing band in the last 30 years!!!
Are you a fan of the band ?
Are you serious ?
You are absolutely right sir..I went last year to Florence Indiana to see them. Was a 4 hour drive and a hotel stay the whole thing was like $600 but WELL WORTH IT
I dedicate this song to my hubby. Love, my husband, the father of my children. Rest in peace, my love.
Sorry for your loss
So Very sorry for your loss!!! God Bless!!!
❤🙏🏻❤️
Same here. Mine has been gone 8 years now 😭💔
I’m just thankful I grew up during such a great era in music. The 90s were great.
The best
My Girlfriend Jessica passed away in Texas at the age of 31. (September 2022) She was actually clean & sober for a year. She glowed Jesus. However she passed away from Heart Troubles. As far as country bands go, Diamond Rio, Shenandoah, Blackhawk, and Alabama were my favorites.
Still listening in 2023 and loving this! The depth of the lyrics, the music, all of the instruments' parts, the harmonizing. A timeless classic.❤❤❤❤❤

2021
Here in December, 2021. Love this song!
You just can't find harmony like this in today's country...these guys are the epitome of beautiful voices blended perfectly together.
Them and restless heart are two of the best harmonizing bands I’ve ever heard.
Ikr
90s country was full of groups that sang in harmony. I think that’s what made them great
Brooks and Dunn
Love the band as it is here. Miss Brian and Gene now that they retired.
What country music used to be...real country and made you truly feel sonething
I've listened to this song a thousand times in two years. Diamond Rio needs more recognition.

Paul Williams is a genius songwriter!!!! Wish he would write more country songs today!
Are you a fan of Paul Williams

I’m so sorry for your loss.
I said hello I think I'm broken
And though I was only jokin'
It took me by surprise when you agreed
I was tryin' to be clever
For the life of me I never
Would have guessed how far the simple truth would lead
You knew all my lines
You knew all my tricks
You knew how to heal that pain
No medicine can fix
And I bless the day I met you
And I thank God that He let you
Lay beside me for a moment that lives on
And the good news is I'm better
For the time we spent together
And the bad news is you're gone
Lookin' back it's still surprisin'
I was sinking you were rising
With a look you caught me in mid-air
Now I know God has His reasons
But sometimes it's hard to see them
When I awake and find that you're not there
You found hope in hopeless
Your made crazy sane
You became the missing link
That helped me break my chains
And I bless the day I met you
And I thank God that He let you
Lay beside me for a moment that lives on
And the good news is I'm better
For the time we spent together
And the bad news is you're gone
The bad news is you're gone
Good song guys. Especially because of the fact that I lost my grandparents and great grandparents And now my cousin named Jim.
As I understand it, the writer of this song was an alcoholic and lost his wife before he got his life together. But is certainly applies to all of us who have lost someone we love.
Don Love Paul Williams wrote this song. The same song writer who wrote Rainbow Connection, We've Only Just Begun, Rainy Days and Mondays, etc.
@DonLove Paul Williams AND John Fenster wrote this after Paul moved to Nashville..Inspiration from the fact both had sobered up after a woman told them good bye..paul talks about it in the video the story behind the song..the Rainbow Connection
To death, and mistakes
One of the BEST songs ever
This is one of the most touching songs ever. Absolutely beautiful. Diamond Rio had such great talent in both instruments and voices. They had so many great songs that never made it to number 1 because of other great songs by other great musical artists like Reba, Brooks and Dunn and Alan Jackson. Alabama literally ruled the 80's in country music but by the 90's they had been slipping back some and their songs weren't as good as the song they had in the 80's. IMO, Diamond Rio should have had way more number 1 songs than they had.
Guess you're a truly lover of country songs ?
Still believe they are one of the greatest bands of country over the last 40 years. The music, the harmony, the deep interpretation of the lyrics. Great music.
This is a great song. One of my favorites by Diamond Rio. I love the end of the song.
Are you a fan of him
I love this song.Going through the words to that in 1998.Love the Diomond Rio.Thinking of u Adam...💔😇🤍
The end always gives me goosebumps, what a great song
2022 here. With Marty singing and Gene and Dana's harmonies, they just complement each other so well. Throw in Jimmy on guitar. Diamond Rio is one of the best country bands ever.
Just saw them in concert on Saturday and they played part of this during one of the medleys and they still sound as great as they ever did
2022 and still a masterpiece ❤

Back in the day, this song was everything. From the first moment I heard it til this day. The piano music is the main reason I've always wanted to learn how to play. Ahhhh...so good!!
Piano makes this or any song come alive with emotion

Bob
saw them in 1999. one of the best live bands i had ever seen!
This song/video helped me through a horrible break up years ago. Thank you Diamond Rio for such a beautiful song.
This song, especially the second verse, reminds me of a girl I was in love with that I lost over a decade ago. Took me years to fully get over her.
I feel the same way and I still haven't gotten over her
Just left their concert n they still kick ass n sound sooo good
Smiles, hello Tina 🌺 😊

What a beautiful way to remember a relationship that you grew from, even if you parted ways.

Such a wonderful and lovely song, love listening to his songs, the best ever
Hello tye, how are you doing, hope you good?
Diamond Rio is the best..this song always makes me cry since my husband passed in 05...Nobody harmonizes like DR.
Hello Joyce how are you doing!!
im listening to this song after my brother in law passed..just a couple of days ago:'( he was in a work accident & didnt make it. it was instant & then he just was gone. i cant stop crying everytime i think of a memory of him, he loved my sister and his two little girls so much. he did all those little things that a dad does when he has daughters. my heart is just torn, that he left so suddenly & no one should die like that, everyone should be able to grow old & die in their warm beds after having grandchildren & great grandchildren. he was only 31 yrs old.
+Tore Last I'm very sorry to hear about your loss.

How does this video only have 1 million views? A hidden gem!
Smiles, hello Patricia 🌺 😊
This is in my will to play at my funeral. My husband saved me.
I hope you listen to this song many times while you're still alive!
Stephanie Wilson-- um.... if your husband saved you, wouldn't it be kind of backwards to play this at your funeral? Wouldn't you play it at his since he'd done the saving? Jw.
I miss my dad. I miss the best friend I’ll ever have. RIP Best Buddy.
This song helped me get through some rough times but it still hurts
Just remembering that I have a place in my heart for the music that I played growing up in my 67 chevelle ❤🎉😢😂😢😅😊
this song hit deep I miss my childhood friend Amanda born Oct 12 1981 died July 5 1994 it still hurts 22years later
Diamond Rio,….Another wonderful band that creates awesome music, & adds to it a story, that I think we can all say we’ve experienced? Whether they were gone because of leaving, or gone because they passed, However, This Song always takes me back to the “Gone” I experienced….Sigh.
