    Thanks for the honest review. My friend lives in a bad crime area. Had me thinking of downgrading a .40 compact to a .22 for CCW. After watching this video, I wouldn't trust a .22 with my life.

    Great review, revolvers will never have a problem with any ammo you feed it . I personally own many single and double action or both 22lr pistols and never rely on the cheaper ammo for them. The only reason I own them is for the fun of them and to never rely on the assurance of self defense.

    The 22 lr TPH has a reputation for being a "finicky" firearm. I've used CCI Stingers (they seam a little longer and I have failures to feed) and Remington Yellow Jackets.

    I've had a stainless TPH .22 since ~1996. I was really disappointed in the reliability of this little pistol at first. Two things bothered me. (1) The area around the feed ramp dirties quickly to the point that feeding a round into the chamber is affected and (2)
    as you experienced, I had a lot of misfires using a WIDE variety of ammo. When a misfire occurred, sometimes a 2nd strike on the rim of the case caused ignition, sometimes not. After I'd had the pistol for about six months, someone told me to try Lapua hollow points. I don't think the round I bought is available now but I have NEVER had a misfire with the Lapua. The rounds I bought are 36 grain hp, 1279 (rifle) fps muzzle vel.

    Thanks for the great info. I always thought a heavier hammer spring would help. CCIs on my shopping list!

    The 22's have a reputation for being "finicky", the 25 acp models are also known to be more reliable but much more money

    Hello MrEk78, I too own a TPH in .22 LR, as well as a TPH in 25 ACP. I practice with my .22, but carry my .25. My .25 has not failed in any way, and my .22 seems ammo-sensitive, preferring CCI ammunition. Thank you for posting your very informative video.

    The TPH is very ammo sensitive and no "limp wrist" shooting. Mine is fairly reliable when it is also cleaned regularly. Thank you for your video

    I think it is a weak mainspring also, maybe adding a small bush to the mainspring pin would encourage more compression of the spring.

    I have had a stainless Interarms tph. for over 25,years. In all tha time I have never had a failure to fire with ccu stingers or any other quality ammunition. Another I picked up a couple of years ago is more reliable with Winchester Wildcats, than other ammo. That pistol was used when I got it the first one was new. It also is dead on , carries unnoticed in a pocket holster. While not my first choice, a quality 22 beats being unarmed. For those who sneer at it, see how you feel after taking a few in the face, chest or groin.

    Thank's for your hint, I managed to get a new firing pin and spring and in combination with the CCI mini mag ammunition the pistol works well for me. regards eric

    when I bought the TPH it came with a Sickinger Quick Draw, I think I will stay with this holster. Today I have been on the range and with a cleaned TPH I had only one failure after 50 rounds with the CCI ammunition. A lot of fun to shoot this little gun! regards eric

    have gone through two factory plastic grips (both have cracked) now have walnut grips which work well. Using cci mini mags has solved my reliability problems

    Hi :) i love this pistol, and i have seen some video,s of it here on YT... and i think your problems with misfiring 22.LR are you are using to powerfull ammo, try to use regular velocity... the other pepoles who have this pistol say you need to use regular ammo, just try it :)
    Best regards from Norway

    I have the TPH model. Try using FMJ quality ammo.. I think its a feed issue and not your firing pin or the round primer. Look closely at the HP mini mag bullet, its a different dome shape and the copper plate can be a bit rough for the feed ramp. The lead rounds too will have more adhesion to the feedramp, enough to somtimes disturb the chambering of the round and cause misfire. A good quality brass case FMJ like CCI but FMJ minimags, S&B or Fiocci should fire flawlessly, At least, thats my experience. Of course, this may also be connected to the bullet grain as HPs are lighter and higher velocity and therefore affect recoil and the slide cycle. So the heavier grain, smoother bullet dome and slower FMJ rounds maybe are better to cycle and battery the round how the gun seems to prefer for its digestion.

    Great video, and I like your range. I also thought that you had a weak main spring seeing the misfires, glad that you sorted out the problem.
    Too bad that in Ukraine we are allowed only rifles and shotguns, I love .22 handguns, though the only one I fired is the Margolin pistol at our sports state owned range.

    I just got one of these pistols. The first thing I noticed is that it too also had light strikes. If you look at the firing pin tip closely it has an extended stop to prevent it from hitting the barrel face and distorting the pin. If you file this off with a diamond file slightly it should work. Wolff makes an EXTRA power hammer spring or the TPH.

      @MrEk78Glock  10 років тому

      Hi, thanks a lot for this information, I will have a look on my firing pin and also for the Wolff spring, I hope they are available in Austria. Regards eric

    • @TheFirearmEnthusiast
      @TheFirearmEnthusiast 10 років тому +2

      Yep, you can buy them from Wolff website. They ship overseas, they shipped my one to Australia. Do not remove too much material from the firing pin so the flat point STILL hits before the striking area touches the barrel face.

    Rimfire is great for plinking & hunting small game. Obviously though .22LR in a rifle for hunting not a pistol.
    .22LR is a bad cartridge for self-defence as is unreliable. .22LR especially in a semi-automatic pistol, you will be lucky to get 9/10 shots to go off as are prone to light primer strikes.
    Centrefire is a must for self-defence pistols. If you really like the TPH then get it in .25 ACP as it is a very small centre fire cartridge & is much more reliable than .22 LR. You will likely fire at least 100 rounds before a single misfire, which will more likely be a jam than a light primer strike. Whats more is the .25 ACP is specifically designed for use in very short barrelled pistols & burns all the powder very quickly as to not waste any energy but the .22LR needs a long rifle barrel to burn to make best use of the cartridge.
    Also, although the .22LR stats will show the muzzle energy significantly higher than the .25 ACP these stats will be based on firing out of a rifle with a long barrel of at least 18" & not a 2" barrel of a TPH. When you compare the muzzle enegy of the two fired out of the TPH you will find that if you use +P safety ammo in .25ACP that it will out perform the .22LR. You should be getting around 1100fps in the .25 ACP & around as oppose to under 1000fps in the .22 LR using both 35gr ammo, & in hollow point it's not too bad in terms of effectiveness for self defence.
    However personally I would not have this as my primary self-defence carry pistol, I would consider it as a back-up with it being so small & light but my primary carry pistol would have to be something a little bigger (still a sub-compact pistol for easy concealability with no printing) with a cartridge with better stopping power lieke a snub nose colt revolver in .357 mag.
    Nice too see the Maltese taking self-defence seriously :-)

      You must be either inexperienced with 22lr or using very poor quality ammunition. I can fire several hundred rounds of various CCI without any failures. So...whats happening with you?
