They are a plantain-banana hybrid, we were gifted one "racimo" by a friend and we wondered the same thing and had to ask him. The kids call those (chubby short plantain) "plananas" 😂 they are sweeter than a regular yellow plantain when fried, but just as starchy. They make great tostones too.
