My absolute favourite episode from the whole series!! I even got to tell Duncan earlier this year in Melbourne how much I absolutely loved his scenes in this episode- he loved the appreciation for Murtagh!
The song is in Gaelic. You have just met John Grey who becomes a huge part of the story later on, but no as you think. Jamie received 100 lashes x2, 1 week apart with a cat of nine tails. The 6 lashes he meted out to the the men was nothing. Jamie's back is mostly scar tissue with no nerves in it, so even less painful for him. The next episode is really good.
but why tell her at all ? let her discover that on her own as the story unfolds. She's not supposed to know that's a good guy, let her suppose he's a bad guy, or that he's not a big character. You're already giving away that he plays a big role and is one of the good guy...
@@ThumpaContinues yes agreed. What bothers me even more is that pretty much the same ppl comments on all outlander reactions. So I feel they should've learned by now, not to spoil. But they just can't help themselves. Especially so the book readers. I get their entusiasm for the show since I'm here for the same reason. But I do want genuine reactions which won't happen whenever comments keep piling on facts and spoilers every time. Then again I'm also one of those who hate spoilers with a passion. So I don't even watch trailers.
They yell to get them ready for combat. Being able to do stuff when your stressed( which is what yelling tends to do) makes you able to do those same things while bullets and explosions rain around you. If you just talked nice to everyone then when they are on the field of battle they might freeze up and intern risk their lives as well the lives of others. In short yelling is designed to toughen you up.
A Highland Charge! Claire and Jamie: Imagine the British terror. It didn't work against the Roman, Normans, or English; it's not gonna work against the British Army either.
💌 Thank-you, for uploading your reaction to this episode. The title translation is, "I am ready." It's Jamie's moto from what I vaguely recall. Although it's been an extensive period of time since I read the novels. Post Script: ADORED your Queen's Gambit reactions! 💕
I don't know for sure, but I'd say the reasons why they yell when training soliders is because where they are going is loud, it's intense and they need to be ready for that especially when they are in the middle of a war zone and they gotta yell orders in life or death situations so they can't be nice when training as it won't prepare them for what they are training for. Again, I don't know for sure, but that makes the most sense to me
It was also to instill discipline and respect. You can't mess about on a battlefield, a single soldier's sloppiness or carelessness can cost you the victory. And an army has to work as one, a unit, to be able to fight well enough to prevail. As we saw one of the men started laughing under his breath when Murtagh was training them and he snapped back immidiately with "what are you laughing at", because what they're gonna do is no laughing matter and anyone not mentally prepared dies first.
In the army, punishments were necessary (and still is to an extent) to instill discipline and respect for the vocation of soldiering in a man. You can't afford any sloppiness or nonchalant attitudes. If sentries guarding the camp do not take their job as seriously as the grave, a single secret intrusion could allow an enemy to light the whole encampment on fire (think back to what Ramsay Bolton did in GoT) and anyone not mentally prepared for the sheer horror of combat dies immidiately and not only wastes his life but could cost the victory for his whole army. Flogging was a way of ensuring that you remembered not just from someone telling you, but remembering it in your bones that what you did or failed to do was unacceptable. And there are no second chances in war. The British redcoat army was one of the most strict armies in the world at this time, with punishments considered quite brutal even for minor infractions, which is also why it was feared.
And yet he clearly doesn't understand how PTSD works if he thinks you can get over it after only talking about it ONCE. The guy's dense or doesn't care.
Yes, also really good! Great background to his role in Outlander, but interesting stories in themselves. Like with the main Outlander series, DG makes history interesting! Most of the series has small mentions of Jamie throughout. 'The Scottish Prisoner' is all LJG and Jamie together. A lot of insight into their relationship and mutual respect. I especially LOVED this book!
In Frank's defence, he's not really given the chance to be allowed to understand Claire's PTSD. In the 1st episode, I'm sure the very last thing they wanted to think about was the horrors of war and then she stumbled thru time... As much as I adore Jamie, I feel bad for Frank. He's innocent in the scheme of things and all of this is unfair to him and the relationship he had with Claire, which appeared to be super loving and solid
Stop defending a loser that was IN THE WAR HIMSELF, and yet you dopes still think he doesn't "understand PTSD." He doesn't care how it affects HER and he doesn't allow her to TALK ABOUT IT TO GET OVER IT. Common sense, get some because Frank sure af doesn't have it. He's not innocent, he's a trash covert narc just like Dougal. Nobody such feel bad for this insecure, ego-centric wee bish. What's unfair is FRANK making the ultimatum that broke the relationship. It's HIS OWN FAULT, FFS, the useless excuses you easily manipulated dolts make for him is ridiculous. The relationship only APPEARS that way to YOU because that's what HE PRETENDS, it was never the reality, hence a narcissist - all about the image.
I really hope she doesn't read comments in here until she's way ahead. So much spoilers in the comments. It's quite funny in a way. I watch ALL outlander reactors because this show is my drug of choice, nå but really it's my top 3 shows. Also if imon do read the comments, one tip I'll give is to pause when you go on a ramble. Don't get me wrong, the rambles is part of why I enjoy your reactions. But lately you've been talking over dialogue so often so you'll end up missing stuff. Also congrats comments you've finally made me bother to login to comment. I usually prefer to lurk. But ye quit it with the spoilers will ye? It's quite sad to see it's always same commentors doing it on all reactions also even tho they say NO SPOILERS please. I get your enthusiasm were all here for it. But we're also here for the genuine reaction. Which they can't give if they've been spoiled. Ya'know Edit: formating went wonky but to lazy to rewrite, my comment to imon was supposed to be last. I'm not used to comment via my phone.

I love Lord John Grey (the boy). This is the first appearance of this character. I love the song at the end.
Finally Lord John Grey, one of the most beloved and important characters
David Berry will interpret him from season 3
You're going to love him

The song is Moch Sa Mhadainn. It is from the Rising. This version is by a Gaelic singer Griogair Labhruidh.

Lord John has entered the building! 😍
A Highland Charge!

That song is one of my favorites. It is sung in Scots Gaelic. No idea what the lyrics mean but it always pumps me up!
I also really like this music!
“Spank him” 😂 intrusive thoughts won that day

Great video and insights.

Sometimes it just to get their attention.
@@annefox926 yeah that too

Frank was in the army during WWII but he was in army intelligence which has its own trauma.

Have anypne read the John Gray novels?

Inaudible. Again.
