I'm thinking buy one Huawei GT3, because of the design, screen, battery life and heart rate sensor. Samsung and Amazfit leave something to be desired on the sensors.
You actually convinced me to buy this watch with your results. Much props for your work! Heart rate, GPS and step count are exactly what I need to be good. Sleep I can live with if it can detect number of hours.
Huawei have historically been good with their accuracy. Somehow they messed up the more premium Watch 3 but it's good to see them come back with the GT3. They're doing really well considering the lack of Google services and massive loss of revenue. HarmonyOS is very promising.
Congratulations, great review. I am a PhD student in exercise physiology, and typically also we test the smartwatch or sportwatch (garmin and polar) in the our laboratory, HR with polar H10, or with the portable metabolimeter cosmed k5 to compare the estimate of vo2max that watches make, as well as steps and gps signal with pace in min/km, or for the comparisons of ventilatory thresholds. I think that huawei made a very goo smartwatchs, similarly with polar or gamin. I saw that the huawei gt runner came out I think I will buy it and test it in lab, are you going to try it?
Now this is how you test a watch, great job ! I picked up this watch today for €75 on the second hand market but the watch was not used and is brand new. I think that is a great deal for this watch.
Thanks for the review! It's good to see that optical sensors start to perform better these days. Also, you've made a review of Venu 2 but what about making comparison of some well established device like Fenix 6 which also use FirstBeat metrics just like Venu2, but unlike Venu2 it has polished firmware. And Garmin seems to be infamous for releasing devices which has less than optical performance in the beginning.
Thanks thanks thanks bro, i bought hawei watch fit for your view, and now this one, very happy whith the upgrade hr is fantastic, but only know for your honest videos, you are awesome.
I bought one GT3 42 mm. I liked the way it presents the results (statistics, etc.), very well impressed by the precision of the heartbeat measurements at low range, up to 140 bpm (I compared its measurements against an oximeter / heartbeat monitor). I even used it in the swimming pool for monitoring the bpm's. Unfortunately the screen froze after less than a week of use. It's very sad 😪
@@alexpope51 Oh that's cool. However I'm skeptical about this watch. How is it so cheap, and yet has so many functionality? Is it durable, stable and reliable? Or does the quality drops after a few months?
Great as always! If just my Galaxy Watch 4 had the same impressive tracking while weight lifting... A tip for the second camera: I think it's better, if you don't switch within the phrase, but instead between paragraphs. You could also try not looking directly into the second camera at all, so you just have the sideview.
Hi Xaver! Thanks for the tips! Indeed, I am just testing different things out at the moment. I am not trained in anything camera related, so these tips are always welcome!
Amazing job, just as always! Your review is the one that i have been waiting for the most! HR accuracy of GT 3 is impressive, that's for sure. As for sleep and SPO2 tracking, i guess with new updates it will be improved. Thnx for the review!
@@TheQuantifiedScientist thanks for replying ;) I do plan to get GT3 because of the accuracy of a new sensor. Also, i love they integrated Route Back gps feature in the watch (which earlier was only available in premium watches)
Hi Rob, thank you for your comprehensive review as usual. In relation to GPS acquisition, I was not very clear on how you went about this. Generally speaking, in my experience, if a watch does not pick up GPS acquisition immediately and you then take off on your ride (or run, whatever) it will not pick up GPS acquisition until much later if at all. I recall DC Rainmaker has confirmed as much in his reviews of Garmin and other units. I would wait for the GPS acquisition standing still or perhaps walking in a short distance or loop from your start point if you think that will help. The real issue with GPS acquisition is time taken whilst standing still; that can depend on the watch and in particular whether the watch has GPS cacheing. If it has GPS cacheing it should not take very long at all. I can't speak to the GT 3, but in my experience with the Huawei GT2e, i had no problems with GPS acquisition as long as a I waited (usually a short time). Hope that helps in the future. Cheers from Down Under.
From a Biology Dr. candidate to a Biology Dr., thanks for the scientific comparison of the different devices. These were the comments I was really looking for.
Can you please make top5 list for every 6 months? Making table would be better but difficult to update all the watches and take a lot of time. 2 videos per each half of the year would be great.
Hello Thanks for this test, The watch GT3 is better than venu 2 in heart rate accuracy ? I think when i watch the two test of you ? But i prefer have you're confirmation ? Thanks.
I have the Huawei Watch Fit, its HR sensor has been extremely good for the price, even ignoring the cheapness its great. What i hate with all of me is that it doesnt track calories all day, it only tracks calories when you move and exercise
Love your in depth reviews but i'm struggling to pick my first smart watch. How well does this watch still hold a year on, would it still be worth buying if its cheap enough? I'm not looking to spend a fortune, the 2 i've narrowed it down to are the GT3 and pixel watch , both are priced similar here in Australia but if i understand correctly the gt3 Performs alot better and has more sports/health tracking functions?
To validate oxygen saturation of both devices first ABG should be performed in my opinion,as how could you be so sure that your finger sensor is the one to go by,if it isn't validated against properly performed blood gasometry?
@@TheQuantifiedScientist What would you choose between Huawei Watch 3 Pro (awesome quality build, decent sensors and very stylish), GT3 (good heart sensor, not so premium, not very future proof due low RAM) and Samsung 4 Classic? Also curious what watch you wear daily. Stay safe. 🙏🙏🙏

@@TheQuantifiedScientist Hey Rob, can you make one video about risks from wearing smart watches? Like does it increase risk of cancer if you are wearing 24/7? Thanks in advance! Love your content!
@@pt-mkd9960 Hi! I am not aware of any risks. I did not dive into the subject, but my suspicion is that the risk is not (much) bigger compared to traditional jewellery. I can imagine that if you have allergic reactions to any type of watch (smart or dumb), this will cause some inflammation. However, I do not expect any major risks from the signals the devices send and receive. Though again, I did not dive into the subject
I've worn my new GT3 to an outdoor biking session (1 hour) and a gym workout (also 1 hour). HR during bike ride was very accurate, on par with my Garmin Venu 2 (the graphs, average HR and max HR on both devices almost matched with only 1-2 beat differences). Unfortunately in the strength training session, after about 30 minutes the GT3 HR began to drop unexpectedly, then jumped up, dropped again. In general it behaved erratically in the lower end of my active HR range until 10 minutes before the end of the workout, where it started to pick up my (supposedly correct) heart rate again. In comparison, my old Apple Watch and current Venu 2 never had such a problem in a workout. I will try the GT3 again next week in the gym to see how it works
Hi, my update: the second time in the gym, I noticed when my HR started to drop and I tightened the strap around my wrist. It then read my HR much more correctly. I'm ok with the GT3 now, but still, I prefer the sporty look of the Venu 2S when doing workouts. :))
@@dieu-trangvu4502 I love the body battery on the Venu 2. Wish they had this on the GT3. So far I have used the GT3 since December as I got it as a Christmas present and the heart rate tracking seems good when doing weights. The reviews are good about the heart rate tracking so I'm happy with it so far. 😀
@@simdencard Me too, I'm happy with the GT3 now. I find that HR accuracy depends a lot on the fit of the device, and once it's solved, no more complaints. Its sleep tracking and training recovery features leave something to be desired though. I feel that it doesn't "know" me as well as the Venu 2. But I'll give it more time.
@@dieu-trangvu4502 Same here. The GT3 has worst sleep tracking than my Huawei Band 6 or Huawei Watch Fit. It seems to not be as sensitive so sometimes doesn't track my full night of sleep and only tracks correct for half the night.
If you tighten the watch to you wrist it will be spot on. However, I agree with you that when the watch is loose the HR goes up and down. That said, the GT3 is easily one of my favourite smart watches and one of the best looking in the market in my opinion.
Thanks for this, my GT2 is terrible at pretty much everything and I was about to upgrade to the GT3 specifically for heart rate, sp02 and sleep tracking. I'll save my money for now as its not worth the money to only get 1 improvement out of the 3 I'm looking for. Subscribed!

Great review, amazed by the incredible amount of effort you put into these! I stopped using the sleep tracking function of my GT3 after it gave me a report on my sleeping patterns after a night I wasn't even wearing the watch. And I'm still unclear what I'd actually do with the info on SpO2. Glad to see though that the GPS and heart rate sensors are precise. I found that if you stand still you get a GPS signal in around 15 seconds and are then good to start your workout. Overall really happy with the watch and the amount of data and insights I get from it via the Huawei health app.
@@TheQuantifiedScientist it showed 85% light sleep, so definitely off. Maybe it was the surface I had the watch on, it hasn't happened again since. But it certainly didn't give me a lot of confidence in the sleeping tracking function 😅

Great review once more. If one does not check first one of your videos about a specific watch, should not buy anything. Had a question though: I've been trying to find research studies for if PPG sensors and photoplethysmography is safe for the skin, in general, for 24/7 monitoring but unfortunately I could not find anything. I would imagine that you have some experience on this topic so please share if you may have something regarding. Thanks in advance, Rob.
I bought this watch five weeks ago and I'm not impressed. Sleep tracking doesn't work at all. It shows me as sleeping when I cuddle my cat on the couch watching the loudest, scariest movies. Who would sleep with so much movement and instant heart rate change? This watch pretends to have 5675698 sports profiles, but can't detect anything at all. It doesn't even ask or notice when my pulse goes above 100 and it doesn't recognize any of my activities. It's a gimmick, nothing more. Best feature: I can turn off the alarm with a touch on my wrist without having to turn around and looking for my phone.
Hi Sir Rob! Can i ask How would you rate the Huawei GT 3?? Coz i was torn among GT Runner, Watchfit 2 And GT 3, you rate the first 2 watchea 4 out of 5. Thanks
Hallo and thx you for this review... I have one question though, can the GT 3 broadcast the Heartrate to other devices during exercises? For example to a bike computer, like the Wahoo bolt?
@TheQuantifiedScientist Thank you for your great work! I know it's been a very long time since the review of GT 3, but do you happen to remember if during the tests the continuous heart rate monitoring was set to "smart" or to "real time" mode? I recently found that real time mode improves significantly the sleep tracking performance (with the downside of slightly increased battery drain), and it seems to make sense because in the so called smart mode there are time intervals of 5-10 minutes during the night when the heart rate data is missing. And less data should most likely imply less accuracy, I assume.
Have you retested this watch after any recent firmware updates to see if there is any change to your original conclusions? Curious if these initial results have changed from since last.
Hey Rob, I really appreciate your content, wearing the iWatch7 or my old Fenix 5.. Now I‘m waiting for the new Garmin Epix2/Fenix7… and looking for the Circul-ring.. do you know anything about the ring? It’s made only for sleeptracking..
Your detailed tests of the accuracy of all these watches are great Rob, you put to shame a lot of these idiot youtube reviewers that are just advertising. Can you please do a detailed review on the Garmin Fenix 7S that is about to be released this week?
Hi! I hope so! First I have to try to convince Garmin to lend me one, given the pricetags. I have been trying to get in touch with them for a whole, so lets see if it works out
I pulled the trigger and bought myself a Huawei GT3. It's cheaper now as GT4 have came out. So I think with the quality GT3 is the most bang for my buck currently.
@@ProdChikara , good watch overall, with great display, good battery life, and superb heart rate sensor... but mediocre gps. The gps is fine for running in open spaces without trees or building, but wildly inaccurate when brought hiking to hills or mountains with lots of trees. Compared it with my phone gps and suunto vertical, my gt3 get 5km longer difference for 16km hike. For running in open spaces it tracks 40 to 50 meters longer per 5km. So in the end I just use my gt3 for daily and formal activities, but when I go running or hiking I take my coros apex.
Hi! Can anyone help please? I bought a Huawei GT3 pro based on the HR sensor quality, I sent the first one back because I though there was a problem, the second one is the same. I've tried different wrist positions, resetting etc. but the problem remains. Every so often, regardless of what I'm doing, I could be walking or watching TV, the HR readout will drop to anywhere between 37 and 44 bpm, this is also recorded in the log. Any ideas anyone please? I can show screenshots of the log readout.
First, Thank you very much for your videos, Rob. Can I ask you if you have tested again the Fitbit Sense after the new update and the new data it gives? Is working more accurately? What do you think?
Great review, thank you! Something I would be interested in as far as GPS accuracy goes is how accurate the distances measured are. I have a GT2e, and my daughter has a GT, and we found they consistently measured lower distances than my Suunto Spartan Sport WHR - typically about 2 to 2.5% for the GT2e and 3% for the GT. This included running on courses; the Parkrun courses are measured with a measuring wheel, and the GT2e would usually only measure 48 to 4.9km on the 5km course.
Hi! In the end I would want to know what artifacts the GPS shows, which in turns tells us if it will likely predict too long or too short routes. If it loses signal a lot, it will likely track to short a route; if it is very noise, it will be too long. But those are just my first thoughts😊. Have a great day!
You are awesome. That testes are so important, could you please test the accuracy for the Samsung galaxy active 2 or the watch 4, that would be awesome, thanks!
Wow! Great analysis! Excellent and detailed review! Thank you! In terms of running, walking and cycling would you say that the Huawei GT3 is better than Amazfit GTR3 pro?
I've got a question about the heart rate monitoring. Did u test the watch with heart rate monitoring set to 'smart' or did u set it to 'real-time'? I just bought the 42mm version of this watch and I'm wondering if there's a difference in the heart rate accuracy between those two settings. Thanks in advance!
Differences is one drains battery faster The 24/7 keeps the sensors switched on even when not wearing the watch The smart turns off the watch when you unstrap it and keep it aside like before going to the shower or something both have the same accuracy

Hi Rob, thanks for the video. You are the reason why I stopped using my galaxy watch 3 in my weight lefting heart rate monitoring because I realised all smart watches are not that good at this and I'm really concerned with accuracy, so, I bought polar H10 based on your recommendation and it's perfect, but now that I can get this android compatible smart watch, do you think I can replace my H10 and get same accuracy? Because a smart watch in gym I found it more practical than the strap
Hi! I think the GT3 is one of the best optical heart rate trackers I've tested so far. However, for the very best heart tracking in the gym, a chest strap is still superior. However, the GT3 comes close in most cases it seems.
Excellent stuff, your videos are always very well presented and I simply love the effort you put into these. One question though, is there perhaps an editing mistake in the video at time 16:40? You mention that with regards to heartrate tracking, Huawei Watch GT 3 performs about the same as Garmin Venu 2 and at the same time video switches to display Nike-branded Apple Watch. Granted you mention about Apple Watch in the very next sentence, but I thought the coincidence in timing would make a slight editing mishap a possibility. Anyway, thank you for your great content!
Hi Tapio! Good catch! It was not so much a complete mistake, as me seeing it, and not realizing that it could be quite distracting. However, happy you still enjoyed the video! Any suggestions on where to focus on in the next videos?

I am a PhD student in exercise physiology, and typically also we test the smartwatch or sportwatch (garmin and polar) in the our laboratory, HR with polar H10, or with the portable metabolimeter cosmed k5 to compare the estimate of vo2max that watches make, as well as steps and gps signal with pace in min/km, or for the comparisons of ventilatory thresholds. I think that huawei made a very goo smartwatchs, similarly with polar or gamin. I saw that the huawei gt runner came out I think I will buy it and test it in lab, are you going to try it?
Can we take a moment to appreciate how rob caught the watch in the intro 🤣
Now this is how you test a watch, great job !
I picked up this watch today for €75 on the second hand market but the watch was not used and is brand new. I think that is a great deal for this watch.
Thanks for the review! It's good to see that optical sensors start to perform better these days. Also, you've made a review of Venu 2 but what about making comparison of some well established device like Fenix 6 which also use FirstBeat metrics just like Venu2, but unlike Venu2 it has polished firmware. And Garmin seems to be infamous for releasing devices which has less than optical performance in the beginning.
Thanks thanks thanks bro, i bought hawei watch fit for your view, and now this one, very happy whith the upgrade hr is fantastic, but only know for your honest videos, you are awesome.
oh the intro changed, it looks funnier than before. great work Rob
Did you manage to unfreeze it tho?
Yeah we need to know this, did you manage to unfreeze it or is it just unusable?
@@khayyamshaikh9182 , yes. I sent it to the Huawei office here in Brazil and they fixed it with no cost.
@@JohnSmith-el4ez yes, it was fixed for free. I've been using it daily (at least twice a week in the pool) without any problem.
A tip for the second camera:
I think it's better, if you don't switch within the phrase, but instead between paragraphs.
Thanks a ton! Yeah, I hope it can be improved with firmware updates indeed! Are you planning on getting it?😊
@@TheQuantifiedScientist thanks for replying ;)
I do plan to get GT3 because of the accuracy of a new sensor. Also, i love they integrated Route Back gps feature in the watch (which earlier was only available in premium watches)
There's a new Huawei Watch Gt Runner that they claim it has a 97% accuracy compared to a chest strap, it would be interesting to evaluate that one.
Hi Ciro! Cool idea! It looks like it has the same sensors, so should be good😊, but I''ll try to pick one up!
Yes please, this would help me a lot to decide what smart watch to buy :)
Thanks.
Hi! I still need to check in more detail which one is actually better. I haven't done that exact comparison yet. Both seem good though.
@@TheQuantifiedScientist Thanks for you're fast response. Maybe a vidéo comparaison of the best tracker for Android user ? 😊.
I have the Huawei Watch Fit, its HR sensor has been extremely good for the price, even ignoring the cheapness its great. What i hate with all of me is that it doesnt track calories all day, it only tracks calories when you move and exercise
Can you fix that with linking it to MyFitnessPal and other calories monitoring apps?
You can use "health sync" app to do it
It’s a shame this watch is not sold in the US. I hope they release it here soon.
Can you repeat the heart rate with latest firmware I think it will give similar result to the GT3 pro
You should do a comparison between GT2 Pro vs GT3 - to test if they have actually IMPROVED their HRM sensing and accuracy.
To validate oxygen saturation of both devices first ABG should be performed in my opinion,as how could you be so sure that your finger sensor is the one to go by,if it isn't validated against properly performed blood gasometry?
Thank you for the content and the detailed presentation. Awesome as usual. 💪💪💪🤟🤟🤟
Glad you liked it Mike! I hope to get even better and better over time!
Stay safe. 🙏🙏🙏
@@mihaicostescu so what is the most important for you? Samsung is the most smart, have a lot of apss, but battery is very pour. Watch 3 pro have build quality and better battery but Smart featuers arent as good as in watch 4 (Im using watch 3 pro). Watch 3gt is the cheapest and battery last for more than one week on the list but have ram limitations. And gt3 have the best HR sensor (other sensor arent much better than other watches)

Wow, thanks so much! Who else do you follow when it comes to smartwatches on UA-cam?
Great tests! Suggest to you to test the new GT Runner. It features a new gps antena design.
Btw, Huawei released their first Watch D device with Blood pressure measurement! Hope to see your review when it will be released globally
Yeah! Sounds interesting, though as you said, I think it might be tricky to get here in Europe at the moment! Thanks so much.
in terms of price which fitness tracker would you suggest as the best budget watch that you've tested?
Any difference in heart rate monitor accuracy between the different versions (elegant, etc) or sizes (46mm or 42mm) of the GT3? Or do they all have the same sensors?
Good question
man you are gem ,I was waiting for this review.
Thanks! What is the next watch you would like to see?
Finally I found someone that did it the correct way ,thank you so much

You are the reviewer I trust the most, when it comes to smartwatch testing. . thanks

Thanks for this, my GT2 is terrible at pretty much everything and I was about to upgrade to the GT3 specifically for heart rate, sp02 and sleep tracking. I'll save my money for now as its not worth the money to only get 1 improvement out of the 3 I'm looking for. Subscribed!
Thanks for the great video, I m going to buy a smart watch for weightlifting and the price is a little heavy for my income. But I think this one is totally worth it. Thanks a lot!

Wonderful watch! Super for people with heart problems! 👍👍👍👍
Happy you like it Lu!😊
Great review, amazed by the incredible amount of effort you put into these!
I stopped using the sleep tracking function of my GT3 after it gave me a report on my sleeping patterns after a night I wasn't even wearing the watch. And I'm still unclear what I'd actually do with the info on SpO2. Glad to see though that the GPS and heart rate sensors are precise. I found that if you stand still you get a GPS signal in around 15 seconds and are then good to start your workout. Overall really happy with the watch and the amount of data and insights I get from it via the Huawei health app.
Thanks Kay! What did the sleep tracking look like when not wearing it? Was it similar to when you were wearing it? Thanks for the tip!😊

If one does not check first one of your videos about a specific watch, should not buy anything.
Had a question though:
I've been trying to find research studies for if PPG sensors and photoplethysmography is safe for the skin, in general, for 24/7 monitoring but unfortunately I could not find anything.
I would imagine that you have some experience on this topic so please share if you may have something regarding.
Thanks in advance, Rob.
Ur the best at making sure this watches capabilities....
Hi, can you update the video with latest firmware for heart rate test? It seems GT3 accuracy is lower than gtrunner and gt3 pro.
I am interested in this too.
The only bad thing about this watch is the lack of BMR calories count
Hi.
Can u compare or review also the Huawei gt runner?..
Though they have same sensors.
Tnx.. 😁
Does the watch GT3 use trusleep 2.0 or trusleep?
Thanks
It's really interesting to see this kind of analysis. Cheers from 🇵🇹
Hallo and thx you for this review...
And less data should most likely imply less accuracy, I assume.
hi Rob.huawei gt3 vs apple watch 7 vs venu 2 , witch one has best hr accuracy ?
Keep doing what you love to do man! Cheers!
Hello, HUAWEI Watch GT 3 SE test ???

What's your thoughts on the gt3 so far ?
Hi Rob, i wanted to buy gt 3, but after the video im not shure, in your opinion what is the best all round smart watch to buy?

Differences is one drains battery faster
The 24/7 keeps the sensors switched on even when not wearing the watch
The smart turns off the watch when you unstrap it and keep it aside like before going to the shower or something both have the same accuracy
You are great, thanks for all your videos, regards from Argentina.
