Four Aces - Stranger In Paradise

- This ballad from the musical 'Kismet' was covered by many top artistes of the 1950s, and in the UK no less than 6 versions were placed in the Top Twenty best sellers, including Bing Crosby, Eddie Calvert, Don Cornell, Tony Martin, Tony Bennett and the only vocal group to chart - The Four Aces. Tony Bennett's version was the highest placed, but this group - led by Al Alberts - were also high in the UK's Top Ten (1955), as they had already been in the USA (1953). This rare TV performance must at the time have greatly contributed to the success of their version.
The Four Aces set most of the standards for many of the groups of that era. They were one of the Best Groups of all time. Five million selling hits, four of which were used as the theme songs for popular moves during their career. Their harmony, style of early 50's music along with their popularity, it can easily be said that it just doesn't get any better than these guys. Ron
We are so fortunate to have been born in the era of." good" music! ❤
Brings back memories! We were also young once!!❤
I'm so glad my life was touched by this type of music ! Lyrics and musical talent so sorry for the present generation and their loss !

No. The opera world knows well the "Prince Igor" by Borodin and the leitmotiv of the opera has been used for "stranger in paradise" song. The point is: whatever is russian origin is not easily accepted...more the mass has no knowledge of classic music.
I was a senior in high school when this came out--great memories of the 50's: Girls, cars, girls, college, girls, the U.S. Navy, girls, great music...
BACK AT 84 & STILL SO FULL OF MEMORIES!!!
I just picked up an old cassette player. Looking to test it out, I found some of my dads old tapes. The first one was these guys. Blessed to have found the four aces! I’m 26 years old haha

I met Al a number of times, and he was always a gracious, friendly person.
Take my hand,
I'm a stranger in paradise -
All lost in a wonderland,
A stranger in paradise.
If I stand starry eyed
That's a danger in paradise
Mortals who stand beside
An angels like us -
I saw her face
And I ascended
Out of the common place,
Into the rarest
Somewhere in space ....
I hang suspended?
Until I know
There's a chance that she cares.
Won't you answer this fervent prayer?
Of a stranger in paradise!!
Don't send me in dark despair!!
From all that I hunger for?
But open your angel's arms,
To this strangers in paradise
And tell us that we need be
Strangers no more!!
I saw her face,
And I ascended
Out of the common place
Into the rarest -
Somewhere in space
I hang suspended
Until I know -
There's a chance that she cares
Won't you answer this fervent prayer?
Of a stranger in paradise
Don't send me in dark despair
From all that I hunger for
But open your angel's arms
To this strangers in paradise
And tell us that we need be
Strangers no more .....

Al was such a fantastic, one of kind man, and his singing with The Four Aces made for an extraordinary group!
It is indeed sad that Al has left us.
Quelles merveilleuses chansons et souvenirs sentimentaux à la pelle
Beautiful song, beautiful blending of voices and I love this song the first time I've heard it!
That is beautiful Cyndi. Long live romance. Seems like today true romance is missing.
This song is full love and yet theres no word of love in this song. Love it!
Thanks parents for singing and bringing such classic hits into our home and even singing them with your sweet voices. Also thanks for trying to explain to us kids who they were and what the song meant. I can still recognize many of them. You knew your hits and had fun singing some in the chorus. Good music and channel.
Considering today's acrimonious climate, I wish I had never left the early 50's.
Goosebumps and tears to this music. May their songs live on forever.
Yes, Connie, me too! The Four Aces before the birth of Rock and Roll, no drugs, a sweet time that we were fortunate to experience!
this was my father's favorite group. he died 25 years ago. he would play their music on 8 tracks in his Lincoln Continental doing 80 on the garden state parkway and we would sing along. I think about that almost every day.
Not even a "Royal Flush" could beat The 4 ACES. Loved them & still do. My favourite group singers. Thanks for the legacy of your wonderful melodies still being played todate. REST IN PEACE THE 4 ACES. Renee M.
An Absolute Tressure.

One of the best groups. Recorded the greatest love song of all time "love is a many splendored thing"
When i was 9 years old i knew this song by heart, i really love this song, it brings back some wonderful memory in my hay days..
Music from opera "Prince Igor" with "Polovtesian dances" by Alexander Borodin. I was enjoying the "Prince Igor" in Opera Theatre in Kiev. Wonderfull opera , music and ballet !!! Easy to link the leitmotif of the opera that repeats several times, throughout the song.
Ok, I just favorited this. Am I getting old or what? I actually think its kind of funny, maudlin and over-the-top. But I love the song. And I love the idea of four guys getting together and crooning like this. Wish I had three vocally talented buddies I could emote with!
Remember this song in Coquimbo City.Chile
Aunque han pasado bastantes años, saludos desde Santiago de Chile. La melodía de esta bella canción fue tomada de la Ópera "El Príncipe Igor" de Alexander Borodin y es simplemente maravillosa.
So very nice, I remember this time in my life,so real.

Here I am listening again. Got it in my favorites. But has anyone here listened to The Ames Brothers? Truly beautiful Harmony. I love the Four Aces. There were quite a few groups that sang such beautiful songs. Anybody have a listen to Gordon McRae. Wow what a voice & he was gorgeous to look at.. This was my parent's "song" - married 3/13/1954 and I can see them dancing around the house to it. Today, 1/1/2011 at 6:20 am my Mother, b. 5/22/1934 Donna Marie Margaret Bastien Yuhasz crossed over to join my Father, b. 10/13/1931 Albert Kaleman Yuhasz 1/1/1995 R.I.P. EXACTLY one hour and 17 years to the day. What a great connection she had to him to join him so - it's such a mystery.
Every time I hear their song I got goosebumps, make me sad and happy at the same time that reminds of my previous love with women I met and loved.
