Starting in Dec, expired food, cool chair and amazing goals...heck yeah! Just found your channel, excited to follow along!
Your videos have come along way since your 1st day on trail. They were good then too, but somewhere along the trail, they became amazing. And you guys are packed to the hilt. What did your packs weigh and for how long before you started sending stuff home? Im just going back and watching a few videos I hadn't seen. Did you ever use your skillet for eggs and ground beef?
✌️🫶
good call on staying at the first shelter! nice vids so far
keep up the great filming
Lovely video, lovely music!
Looking forward to following along on your journey, Thank you, and have fun!
Good day, thanks for sharing it.
Safe Trails

Cheers to your determination. May you achieve the success you desire. Wishing you peace and good fortune. Happy Trails!
Just subscribed!! Wishing you both the best of luck!! GO SLOW for several weeks. Don't cave to the pressure of adding more miles for weeks! YOU'VE GOT THIS!
Enjoy the adventure.
You had me at "All of our food is expired" lmao.
Looks like a great day to start the Approach Trail. Just go slow, let your muscles, bones and joints get used to it and just enjoy the hike. I would let your people at home know that cell service will be spotty so they shouldn't worry too much if they don't hear from you for a day or two. I hiked the A.T. twice and cell phones weren't invented yet. I called home whenever I found a pay phone about every two weeks. The shake down will help a little but don't let them talk you out of "comfort". I too had a crazy Creek chair with me. I showed up on top of Springer with a 72 lb. pack in 1990 and got it down to 42 lbs. by Katahdin, which was light back then. People have been thru hiking this trail since 1948 and there have been far more people complete it with packs over 40 lbs. than packs under 40 lbs. If you can't be comfortable you will want to quit. Remember, the trail is 10% physical and 90% mental.
Hike safe, Hike strong, Have fun!
geek
We are carrying drastically less food moving forward. For a while at least.
That is amazingly awesome! Thanks for the support and comment definitely going for comfort in this cold weather ❤❤
I’m so excited for your adventure. I’m starting June 1st and doing a flip flop. Might be seeing you.
Congrats on your earlier start. I enjoy people fighting the elements from my couch. 😂 I have done all GA in 2015. Good Luck 🍀
I'm so excited to follow you on this adventure!!
Excited to see how the December initiation goes, wishing you warm weather for the next 4 months
Happy miles. I enjoyed the music
just subscribed NICE! was looking for some AT vids and here yall are
thank u for taking us a long
Thanks for the sub!
Have a great walk guys.
When do you think you will hit Neal’s Gap? I live in Dawsonville and would be happy to bring you some eggs and ground beef or sausage! I love driving in the mountains, and mountain crossings is a regular stop, in car or on motorcycle.
Hey Jack!! Congrats on your start for 2024 and your journey up the trail and sobriety!! I'll be following you up the AT in about 6 weeks. Peace!! 😎👍✌
We used to take walks 🚶♀️ our legs got old & didn't tell us , so we watch other's take walk's & ty !
Enjoy your hike and congrats Jack, be safe and hope to see you out there at some point. I'll be starting in 6 weeks
Best wishes from New Zealand Guy's. Just don't change too much of your wonderful spirits to suit others, there are plenty other channels for them to watch :) BE YOU, looking forward to watching the journey, and your growth. ✌
^ Exactly this! Don’t change a thing for anyone else. The people that love you all for who you are will stay. Best of luck to you both!
I lived in blue ridge for a long time before moving to the smokies. Starting Jan 1 is going to have you in some wicked winter weather in the mountains.
I am looking forward to seeing this. Good luck.
Us too!
Hammer Down! You have a new subscriber. ☃️ Snowmman class of 2019. See yah in Ct with some trail magic!
0% chance they make it there unless they take 2 months off
No worries about the bubble! lol. Good luck guys.
Thanks for the video
Our pleasure!
Just subscribed. So excited for an early start. Sending good wishes to you both. Looks like you are going to have a lot of fun. ❤
Thank you 🙏
I did the first 175 miles of the AT this past October also in a hammock. Would love to keep up with your trip if you are able to clean up the language. My grandchildren sometimes watch with me and don’t want them to hear that language in my home. Thanks for the videos and working “on the language”. 👍🏼🙏🏼
I agree with working on the language. I will be starting in February and when I vlog there won’t be any unclean language. But I am going to tolerate it for seeing the trail and adventure as I prepare for my own!!
I’m trying to get us both on the same page with the language. Appreciate the patients.
Thank you for showing this video of the first day of trail!! Gets me itchy and ready to go, if I wasn’t already!
I think I’ll be checking for service on most of the mountaintops, since that is always the best bet for service, and with that texting and video uploading!
Hey there! Awesome start to your hike! I look forward to seeing more footage! Be safe!
Thanks! Will do!
I look forward to watching your journey. Thank you for mentioning the alternate dog route for the approach trail. I had no idea that was an option. Happy trails.❤
Glad it was helpful!
Good to meet you guys on the trail today. I was the guy running an out and back. Beautiful day to be on the AT. Have fun, be safe!
Robb.
Pleasure to meet you!
Heck yea thanks for the support and happy hiking ❤❤
Digging the unfiltered videos. Catching up and just subbed to follow. One day at a time. One step at a time. Y'all got this.
You guys are hilarious!!! Keep up the humor and the Stoner Vibe Humor and you'll get a million subscribers!

Awesome video. Y’all stay safe
Thank you! Will do!
“So all of our food is expired.”

Norther side of smokeys hit me up fto. Gatlinburg to hot springs
Plan to get on trail in March for section hike wish I had the time and money to thru hike
How cool. I just started watching this video and had to stop it 5 seconds in to say I've stayed at that hotel before :)) My son was trying out for the soccer team at the University of North Georgia and that's where we stayed. While at the try out back in 2022, I was talking to another dad and he was telling me about the hiking on Blood Mtn. I'm from south Georgia and I'm not familiar with the north Ga mountains so I had never heard of it. Well, a year and a few months have gone by since that trip up north and we've made several more trips up north and we've done a little bit of easy hikes....more like walks. I fell in love with the mountains so me and a high school friend of mine (we are 56 years old) have decided we are going to get in shape and start hiking some of the trails. We'll start out slow with a few day hikes, maybe a couple of overnighters and work our way up to some longer hikes. He turned me on to your videos and I'm learning a lot from you guys. I absolutely fell in love with your Blood Mountain video from a couple of days ago and that settled it. Our first hike will include the Blood Mountain Overlook. Thanks for sharing your hikes. Keep posting and I'll keep following.
Amazing thanks for the comment and support ❤😊
Good luck dudes! I stayed in the double spring shelter in great smokey mountains last month on a backpacking trip. Didnt leak during massive storm! That was First time on the Appalachian, ill definitely be doing more of it! Wont thur hike any time soon since i work summers....
off to an early start.
This could get really tough if winter decides to get brutal. I don't know how you can do it. Good luck!
We’re gonna find out.
I'll pray the rain is kind to you with this early of a start.
Thought you said January 1st. GL guys.
We got impatient 😅
Yes! You're off!
lovin it already - go get em boys
This should be interesting, def need a pack shake down.
Your friends trail name MUST be Bob Ross
Good luck yall the trail is an accomplishment but sobriety will be the goal. I hope yall find everything you are looking for!
Yes! Thank you!
I'm doing a virtual AT walk using an App called the Conquerer. It's not the same as the real deal, but your videos are giving me a feel for what I'm missing.
I remember my first thru hike. I brought a chair lol. Ditched it at casa da Luna over 500 miles in. These boys are starting super early. Good luck to ya. It’s nice to start early to get some views but you miss the bubble fun with friends. I left march 3rd and was too early for the bubble. Attempting the cdt for my triple crown in April. Keep on truckin
I had that same fro at 17 years old,, 😊
Pickup a body mic, your video quality will improve 100%. Looking forward to following your adventures. I live near Cherokee NC.
I do have one and I’ve been using it for the times where we’re set up at the shelter and the hostel but it’s a lot to think about while hiking on trail. Working on it though would like to bring some good audio from some mountain peaks soon!
Loved it !!! Liked and subscribed 🙂
Awesome! Thank you!
Brings back so many memories from 2020.
yall are crazy AT in Dec, but hell yeah letz goooo good luck boys! Excited to follow along
Just watching your video brought me a ton of memories when I tried to my first thru hike in 2022. Man I felt like packing my gear and just go. Be safe take it slow and do that pack shake at neels ask for “Just Bill” he is really great. See you guys on trail.
Looking forward to meeting you man!
@@TrippinSober I hit trial 1 March. I hope to see you both.
Don’t hate the eights as you build up your endurance.
I need to know where to get those chairs!
Amazon crazy creek chair
Happy Trails! See you mm635 P'burg VA. Btw, did you call Mike "Bob Ross"? I think it's a fitting, honorable trail name....the world needs more happy little trees . You fella's have fun.
💜🥾🥾💜

~Doc Peppa
I did! lol. So fitting!
Great start guys! Be safe on the trail and have fun 😁
Whats your hammock set up?
Hammock gear all the way. 10 degree quilts with the journey tarp I believe.
Hey there…my name is Frank. I’m an avid backpacker. I stumbled across your channel. I am really enjoying your videos and have subscribed. Go get this…..
Welcome aboard!
Happy day one ! 🎉
🎉
Just found yall and I have a lot hiking to do to catch up to yall. But I am on it! LOL Loving the content already! Let's go! Hope I catch up to yall soon, oh wait I am on my computer so it is easy for me but I have to hurry. lol Slow down just a tad, on my way...lol
😂 Welcome aboard!
the music is hilarious
Good luck on your trip! You look just like Master Chief from GI Jane… trail name,”Master Chief” or “Yeti” because you started in the dead of winter
Cheech and Chong!
Lol
Wait, lol. You are starting in January? Hiking though the Appalachian Mountains in the middle of winter? OK. Good luck with that! Hope they like cold as F weather lol.
Fingers crossed!
My sister B.W told me about ya’ll and I am going this day to meet w/my counselor at clinic to sign off on going down or tapering down AM SO SCARED as a younger woman I almost died going cold turkey on a low dose ! God set me up next to a small mountain trail called glassy. Mountain in nc Carl sandbergs place.. it saved me even tho I couldn’t walk for about 3 months
So scared😢😮😅❤ TU FOR BEING HERE FOR ME AND OTHERS
Great luck!
Let’s get this! 👍🏻🙏🏻⬆️
Hey hey, I'm watch all of this. I'm disabled can't do the hike, pack..
You should get a pack shakedown at neels you can thank me later
I sounds like they have a lot of experience but their picks looked pretty massive. Then again they are carrying Jet Boils and heavy pans. To be very young again.
@@mtadams2009 yep at my age I couldn’t tote the loads they are , I’m grouchy at 26lbs .
@@jamesking4225 My base weight is at about eight pounds. At the my age 64 I could never carry their packs. I am sure in a 100 miles or so lots of that crap will be gone. Take care
My first thought exactly . Shakedown
Right. I get they’re young and strong, but their bodies will be better off for the long haul if they lighten those packs. FFS, they look like Hut Croo in The Whites, delivering a week’s provisions. Not good.
You guys have have fun out there
Good idea starting slow
No medals for finishing early
Maybe pick up a satellite communicator so you can send ok message
Seems expensive but if you get jammed up
Well worth it
Working on a few sections again this year
Da Breeze
AT&T and the new iPhones seem to have plenty of service so far haven’t had much problems with service just saying
Good Luck Guy's .
Sounds like a great start! Wondering why you went to Black Gap Shelter after summiting Springer, 1.5 miles back the way you came, when Springer Mountain Shelter is 0.2 away. Was Black Gap nicer?
We started mid way up the stairs at the falls 7.something miles to springer and hiked to the first shelter off the approach and onto the AT
2nd shelter on the AT I thought..
Maybe you meant Stover Gap Shelter? That's the second one on the AT. Black Gap Shelter is the last one on the Approach Trail. We live in Georgia and have hiked 3/4 of the AT in Georgia. Still working on it.. we're approaching 70 this summer and we only do day hikes. No camping out...
how heavy are your packs? I'm Starting in March
Too heavy. The weight is dwindling though.
Garmin mini 2 you’ll have texting service
Great 1st day!
Good luck guys!!🎉🎉
Keep on pushing Paulanator🦾
Yea man! Good to hear from you! Happy new years!
@@TrippinSober yeah I was late on the subscription but I’m all in. I’ll be there in spirit with you brother.🦾
Nice to meet you guys- wishing you well- stay safe and where are y’all from?
they are from Baton Rouge Louisiana
NC here
How much does that seat weigh?
About 1lb. I’m not ready to drop it yet tho.
@@TrippinSober I may have to swoop one up.
Y'all some entertaining guys. 😆 Expired food, no problem. Hard dried out food, meh. Moldy food, line drawn.
What was your start date?
What shoes are you two wearing?
Capt.Jack has Altra Olympus gtx and I’m rocking the Hoka Speedgoat 5 mid top gtx
@BobRossandCaptJack I have the hoka mafate speed 4, and altra timp 3 but my personal favorite is topo mnt racer 2 and topo terraventure 3
Are you starting your adventure? If you left before 2024 won’t you still be counted as a 2023 thru hiker ?
Some people don’t care about stats. 🙄
I've also been wondering this about the early start.
Planned it then got impatient 😅
Well both of you be safe and hopefully we’ll see you on the trail@@BobRossAdventures
🙂👊🏻
See you in Damascus...
If I ever did it again I'd No-Pack the steps.
Like slack the whole thing?
Just the steps. They're not actually part of the AT anyway. Wiped me out when I did them, though it was an unseasonably hot day.@@TrippinSober
Your packs look heavy. Do you know the weight?
45ish pounds after food and water atm
Good luck. The AT don’t play.
Good luck. What were temps?
We’d like to get a small thermometer. Just going off nearest town weather or AT weather at the moment.
Favor follows you!
After three months do you still have the Crazy Creek chairs? 😂
Nope
Well NICE legs…😂😂😂
First day
