From an unofficial campsite on the edge of Knee Deep Pond down about 17 miles south to the Tom Leonard Shelter. Beautiful views and great weather. I got an unexpected on trail care package, big thanks! Great Barrington tomorrow!
I exported this video in 4k so if your settings are turned to highest quality you should be able to see a difference. Took way to long to do this everyday tho :/

Woke up at the October Mountain Shelter. It. Was cold but no big deal with this r6 sleeping pad. I got a later start then I wanted to, but eventually got up moving and headed south. The weather got nicer as the day went on. I landed at an unofficial campsite near knee-deep pond just after dark. They are made camp and cooked a delicious pesto pasta with sausage and peanuts. Another beautiful day...

Another pleasant day at Tom’s house. Today I discussed my thoughts and feelings about the Altra Olympus 6s and took a nice bike ride down to the convenient store. Tom made breakfast lunch and dinner again. We had some nasty weather but it’s suppose to shape up tomorrow. venmo.com/u/Paul-Strickland-4 Instagram @capta1n_j4ck

I woke up on Tom’s porch this morning to a variety of birds chirping just over by the picnic table where they’re fed well. It was chilly and drizzly, just as expected, although the hard rain I anticipated later in the day was a no show. Tom invited me in for coffee and an amazing home cooked breakfast, complete with pastries and bagels. After some video work it was time for lunch. We had roast ...

I woke up at the Mark Neopel Shelter about a quarter to seven. A cold morning and a dry camp. I didn’t waste time packing up to hit the trail southbound for Cheshire MA. Realized around 11:30 that it was Saturday and I wouldn’t make it to Dalton in time to get my packages before they close for the weekend, bummer. Landed in Dalton MA at Tom’s house around 4 in the afternoon. His neighbor cooked...

I woke up at the Seth Warner Shelter. Another cold morning with a disfuctional sleep pad. Met some unexpected trail magic just before starting up Greylock, then caught an epic sunset on the peak. After the sun disappeared into the horizon I started down the south side of Greylock. I landing at the Mark Neopel Shelter an hour or so after I deployed the headlamp. I woke up at the Melville Shelter to a cold wet morning. Decided to use a shuttle service for the first time in a while into Bennington VT to charge batteries and grab some food. Made good time in town and made it to the Seth Warner Shelter. I’d been here before but under much different circumstances. It was nice to see the shelter again. Last day in VT, bittersweet. Woke up at the Spruce Peak Shelter and had some amazing conversation with a couple who shared seemingly all of my philosophical views. Meeting them was an absolute blessing! Shoved off late and realized around 2pm at Prospect Rock that I had a lot more miles to cover if I wanted to meet my goal. So I booked it. Ended up passing on the Stratton fire tower this time cause I was flat worn out. Lan...

Woke up at the Little Rock Pond Shelter low on batteries and rushed out. Ran into some familiar company in the first parking lot I hiked by and charged the phone up about half the way. Great videos.. I can't help noticing the dark colors you're wearing during deer hunting season. You should consider wearing a light hunter orange vest especially during the gun season in November.. Hope all is good and Good luck in your travels!

Dang! What a beautiful video! Some highlights for me: 4:40 (colors and composition); 5:43 (falling leaves); 8:53 (colors); 9:43; 9:54 (great silhouette/shot set-up); 9:59 (cool shot, water and rock and shoreline). One thought from the peanut gallery-take it or leave it, of course-when you do you “walkthroughs,” you usually edit/cut right after you leave the frame. Sometimes I feel like I want to see the landscape you just walked through for a moment more, kinda give the idea what’s there, what’s permanent, particularly if it’s pretty, as it was at, say: 4:34. Just an idea. It’s your show, of course!

Hey Jack, I was in the bunk below yours a few days ago during that cold, hail-and-rain day at the full October Mountain shelter. Fun chatting that morning. I’ve since watched several of your videos and appreciate the videography, music and flow. Nice job! When you get to Great Barrington, check out the SoCo ice cream and go for a hot fudge sundae. They make the best. Good luck to you as you continue your adventures south.

I liked your recent review of the Altra Olympic 6 shoes. I may give them a try. Back in the summer I commented that I was trying TOPO's and thought I would like them. Well, I don't like them after all. The soles are good, but the uppers are too flimsy and lets your feet slide and roll over to the side if the trail bed is level, or you step on any side sloping surface. So, I'm back to my old favorites since 2008, Salomon XA Pro 3D with green superfeet insoles. They are tough and the toe cap never comes loose. Since the beginning pair, I have to cut the strings at the bottom and retie them in the second set of holes up from the toe to give myself enough more room in the toe box. Works great. Thanks for the great videos. Take care out there. Kanati

Think you are right about use of poles given your fitness, balance and desire to conserve calorie expenditure. Bought trekking poles decades ago to increase upper body fitness and burn calories. Decades older than you, we use the poles for fitness, calorie burning, stability on AT rocks that are wet, covered with wet leaves or snow. Live near Boiling Springs and Pine Grove Furnace. EE Torrid and their gloves are excellent; light; does not wet out like down; not quite as warm. Pair with Alpha direct. If you need a lift for resupply or forwarding yourself resupply boxes or what ever when you come through here send us a note. Regards,

Lots of people talking about the quality of Altras diminishing but no one talking about how Altra sold out to Vanity Fare last year, VF specializes in women’s clothes hence the downfall in their shoe quality. VF has no affiliation in the outdoor community or shoe making other than Altra which they just acquired. Also people buying a zero drop shoe just to put in a heel drop insert makes absolutely no sense. Just my 2¢ ✌🏽
