I am not a fan of the big planes but this series may get me to try them again. I love the focus (magnify) windows you use to show what you are manipulating. Too many tutorials just say click this this and this and one is lost on what they are doing. Maybe you should get your drunk Scot friend to be your F/O? On second thought, maybe not. :) I am enjoying this. I hope you continue the series.

Dude I have watched 100s of videos of FMC and other instruments explaining how you make a flight plan and how you take off and land but this is the most simplest video I have seen so far.. things I have learnt from this vid was never explained in other vid .. I have just subscribed your channel I will look forward for detailed videos about in flight instruments. Please continue to make such videos for the beginners like me. Cheers!

Absolutely great tutorial. I've been trying to understand navigation for the past few weeks and many videos on here seem to only partially highlight areas... I now understand what SIDS and STARs are but most of all I nearly have full knowledge of the FMC for this particular plane all from one video where other uploaders leave me asking more questions, great work.
I think I'm learning backwards though because I already know about waas, vpl and raims etc and the accuracy of each system

    A helpful video for newbies.
For anyone who stuffs the programming right up you can reset the FMC by clicking and holding the Menu button down for about 3 seconds. This has to be done on the FMC within the cockpit, it will not work with WebFMC on a different screen. And yes, both FD's to on for an auto landing.

i would like to see a video on how to set up my controls for airliners. I still have a bit of a problem setting up reversers, speedbrakes, etc., and would love to see more detailed tutorials on actually LANDING these big birds. There's many times where I complete a nice trip and have the fmc programmed and i get flustered and don't get slowed down correctly or I slide off the runway because I missed the speed brakes and reversers, etc...

I don’t know if it’s in your budget, but I’ve done PC simming for a long time without a throttle quadrant but finally got one and I’m glad I did.The one from CH products has six levers and I run two for throttles, two for reverse. Some will program the other two for flaps and speed brakes but I use joystick buttons for those, just preference I guess.
I also have found that a second joystick with twist controls makes a great nose wheel steering tiller. My secondary joystick, a Saitek unit, has dual throttles but I’ve set them to be left and right brakes, and that’s actually been a big help since my rudder pedals don’t have brake activation. They’re strictly rudder.
Also, sometimes you can find some good deals on second-hand stuff that’s still pretty workable.

Not a bad job flying it considering you’ve pretty much had to train yourself! If I may offer this for the benefit of the viewers: Your descent may be earlier or later than that green T/D point. -You may spin that new lower altitude in the Mode Control Panel window and press either VNav or Flt Lvl Ch and it will go down in the descent assuming you put a lower altitude in. (If for whatever reason you put in a higher altitude, it should climb to that altitude).
-That speed window is dark or “blanked” because Vnav is scheduling it, but it can be such that it’s flying its own schedule and that MAY not be what you want, so I believe if you press it, you could roll your mouse wheel and spin in the speed you want. That way you would’ve been able to get those flaps out without having to disconnect the autopilot.
-Good technique would be go ahead and select that APPCH button before the pink diamonds are centered up. What that will do is “arm” the system, or in other words, get it set to “capture” the horizontal localizer and the vertical glide slope. It will save you from missing it, I promise.
I have friends who've done it! (wink wink)
-Good and very realistic technique would be to select the Vref plus about a 5kt extra margin at about 2000 ft above the airport, coming down the glide slope, immediately hit G to get the landing gear coming down, then start selecting those flaps down as soon as you can in compliance with the flap speed limitations. That way, you’ll meet the requirement that the real planes seem to do with having gear, flaps and speed all set by 1000 ft above the landing zone. (I think this is the area you were referring to as the mistake to catch on the final approach.)
-Put the missed approach altitude, whether it be 2,500 or 3,500 or whatever is in the approach chart, in that altitude window after glide slope capture, but before 1,000 ft above the landing. Then, if you do have to go around/missed approach, hit TOGA and your autopilot will level off at that altitude automatically.
Again, good job. I’d like people to not be too intimidated about the autoflight system in these sims. Hope that helps any newbies. I enjoyed the video.

@@GripperSim I started badly. Many ALT-TAB's later I arrived over Dublin Airport at FL200. I missed the altitude bug too! I wish I could say I arrived over Dublin but since updating to 11.50-b9 that (default) scenery area is gone, so it was an just airport in the sea. Didn't bother with landing there so next time I'll see how much I've learned by trying to fly between 2 airports in the UK, where I have OrbX scenery.

You can carry out an autopilot Cat 3 landing right onto the runway by selecting the first officer CMD button and thereby using both two channels (redundancy on one). A white “flare” & “rollout” will appear in the MCP to confirm the landing mode. 👍👌

I use the "Little Navmap" freeware program to create flight plan from X-plane data and then save it for the aircraft I am going to fly. For example if I want to fly Zibo then I need to save this flight plan as *.fms. Then only thing I need to do is to use the co-route option in the FMS to load that flight plan. Thanks, i will have to re watch this a couple of more times. I really like flying the smaller gen aviation stuff. There is just a lot to take in on the larger planes. I want to learn and these will definitely help. Not too complicated instruction. Most just go through so fast and they don’t show what they are looking at or adjusting. I have subscribed to the channel and will be watching. Also now that MSFS 2020 has been announced you know that you are going to have to make the transition and hopefully most of this will transfer to the new sim. Thanks

Sorry mate you've made a mistake. You put the GW in the ZFW box so now your FMC thinks your GW is 66t and therefore will give you wrong speeds. The actual GW is 54.3t. Rule of thumb V2 is 80+ GW so in this case 134kts.
    Dear R&R,
I've now watched the whole video and I do really like your enthousiasm, but bro there is a long way to go. I'll point out a few items to you not to burn you down, but to help you getting to grips with the 737.
    Before TO
Set the autobrakes to RTO (in case you have to stop at high speeds the brakes will automatically start max braking in order to stop on the runway) Trigger point is 90kts groundspeed. Below that it won't do a thing.
Set V2 in the airspeed window on the MCP. The FCC will climb out at V2+20 either following the F/D or the Autopilot (AP).
Set the first hard altitude in the altitude window on the MCP (in your case 5000ft). If you forgot to arm VNAV and you set the AP on the aircraft will climb to the altitude set in the window. That case you will bust the 5000ft. ATC will be a bit annoyed by that.
Don't use the speedbrakes that much. Yes in the descent the airplane went a bit fast, but not to much. You will need to set the descent winds in the FMC if that is possible with this simulator. You can find that in the descent page then forecast. Set the altitude where you happen to know the wind (we use FL310 FL200 and FL100) and fill in the winds. Also the QNH can be set there.
When getting close to the airport you need to select a lower speed yourself in the airspeed window on the MCP otherwise the thrustlevers will try to maintain the set speed.
Good habit is to arrive at the localizer with flaps 5 and correct speed. At GlideSlope intercept Gear Down, Flaps 15, arm the speedbrake and set the speed to the correct speed for the flaps. At 1500ft above field set the landing flaps and reduce speed to Vref + Wind Correction. Landing checklist.
Hope this will help you. When you have more questions let me know.

How does the FMC know what V1 is before entering the runway (the length of it)?
Or did i missed a step before? Have all runways at an airport always the same length? (#nonNativeEnglishSpeakerHere)
