  • For years BIGFOOT monster trucks relied on Predator carburetors for their fuel delivery needs. In an effort to make tuning easier and get more power, the team decided to try fuel injection. It was first put into the all-new BIGFOOT #8 and proved to be quite formidable.
With the success of #8, the call was made to switch BIGFOOT #4 to fuel injection in the spring of 1990. Shortly after the change, #4 was in Rockford, IL (actually Pecatonica) for the kickoff of the 1990 outdoor Jamboree season. While the new engine still needed to be dialed in, that didn't stop #4 and driver John Piant from putting on a show!

I remember back in 1990, when they were at the figure 8 course and Andy Brass was driving. He said after everybody was complaining about #8, it just made his day to be able to bring back the old truck(#4) and still beat everybody. Good times.

Absolutely, this truck was the bar by which the others were measured at the time.

This was probably my favorite incarnation of Bigfoot #4, it really stood out among the others for a brief time. It also seems like #4 was particularly vicious by this point with the fuel injection. With the fuel injection and leaf springs, and the huge as heck brake discs on the differentials, it seems almost like it was a "Transitional" ie "Stage 2.5" monster truck at this point.

More BF4 and early BF8 videos please! 1989/90 were the most interesting years in monster truck history.

Absolutely Awesome!!!! One of my favorite of the Bigfoot monster trucks and all monster trucks for that matter. I built a custom R/C version of this truck.

Old #4, one tough truck!!! With the older style suspension and all then add the new motor. Definitely shows how tough it was and John was giving the spectacular just a lil taste of what #4 can do. Yes, more of the older videos and #'s 8-21 as well. Still waiting on news and video of #22.

I actually would really like to see bigfoot 4x4 build another leaf spring truck(retro body and all). The end result should look just like how #4 looked here. I know thats a dream that will never come true. I cant help but think it would be their most popular truck in the fleet if they did it . Look at #4 in this video...its an animal!

That would be uber cool, an official Bigfoot 4,6, or 7 replica! Although, a Bigfoot 3 replica might be cooler still! 6 is my favorite just because it was the first Bigfoot I saw perform live. I really wish they hadn't re-bodied all of them over the years (except 1, of course). That modern retro Bigfoot is okay, but it's as convincing as painting a modern Charger orange and telling us it looks like the General Lee. Originally, #4 had the square glass non-aero headlight front end and body style that 3 had and #5's body was updated too. #3 lost its identity completely getting a 90s fiberglass body and becoming a ride truck. It doesn't matter now that they all look the same and like a fiberglass shell that holds sponsor logos and nothing more, but on the old trucks, I liked for them to keep their identity. Modern will get here soon enough. Vintage is a window we don't need to shorten.

I would like to see the Bigfoot crew buy back Bigfoot #4 and restore it to it's original 1985 version of itself. Even in this form it had been heavily altered from what it was originally. If you're wonder what I'd like it to look like just watch the ''Return of the Monster Trucks'' video here on UA-cam.

I wish I could have frozen this era of monster trucks in time...the "stage two" trucks were still more or less actual trucks with nice bodies and paint, you could tell if something was a Ford or Chevy and drivers didn't want to roll them over. I find it hard to root for a cartoon bull or dog-bodied stunt truck which is essentially just a roll cage on wheels.

I loved this body style for your trucks, when you switched them to this style though, you couldn’t tell any of them apart! I’d pay you guys to build a replica of this truck as this was an incredibly cool truck.

I went to the USHRA event at the Superdome in New Orleans back in January of that year and John Piant drove Bigfoot 4 for that event. He beat Jack Wilman Sr in the final race, but blew up the engine in that race. It had the Predator carburetors on it at that time. When after that event did they make the change on the engine?

Was this the same Bigfoot that did the tug of war with Sergeant Slaughter and the battling battalions? Because I know direct-injection would have worked those guys rather dirt and Drug him across the second floor even without the traction Bigfoot had on the floor
