A prenup is no different than car insurance, house insurance, medical insurance, wearing a seatbelt, etc. Its a just in case thing. Thats it. Thats all.

I agree Anthony, as a 42 year old Christian man, never married, no children and an above average earner. A prenup is not optional, whomever my wife is will sign a prenup. We are all flawed and people change. With that said it would not be wise to for extremely established professionals to place their life long sacrifices and investment into the legal system hands.

🗣 BOTTOM LINE: it is nonsensical for someone with assets to get married w/o a prenup. What you have prior to marriage is YOURS. What you build together during marriage YOU SPLIT in a divorce. And anyone who wouldn’t agree to that is a grifter that I wouldn’t marry

After watching my aunt take everything from her husband. I will get a prenup. Watching her do that made me have standards. My future wife better have no kids, willing to sign a prenup, and not be the type of person that is only money hungry just to impress others.

For years, and I mean YEARS, I've always been in favor of a prenup and I'm a woman. It may be nice to have a man of many resources but I know what I have or will have that won't make me entitled to his riches and at the same time protect my assets as well. Great discussion

    • @aneshaelizabeth
      @aneshaelizabeth 5 місяців тому

Yes! It almost seems rare that there are women that are in favor of prenups. I know my parents getting a divorce shaped how I felt about finances and marriage. Now that I am an adult and I am working on myself, I am most definitely getting a prenup. I have a business that I want to protect. Whatever we have before marriage, is our own. Whatever assets we accumulate during the marriage, we split.

It is not a woman’s job to find a husband, it is a man’s responsibility to find a wife. No amount of money without God will work. A man should be looking for a woman that has a relationship with God, knows her worth (not superficial), has a partner mentality, and willing to be led. A true man of God listens, prays, love’s openly, and shares the throne with his wife. No one owns anyone, but each are aligned in God’s purpose for them as a single unit. Each person should be willing to share their resources, for the stability of their marriage. Where one is weak, the other should filling in and vice versa. A marriage is 200% not 50/50, each person has 100% to give. A Godly marriage is the focused on God, money, children, and other material things are bonuses. 🙏🏽👊🏽👍🏽

It is easier to have a main joint checking account, joint savings and his allowance account and hers allowance account if stepping into the relationship at a young age. When two older people who bring a bag to the marriage it’s hard splitting 50/50, nor is it wise. Better have a prenup.

Prenups used to be a gray area for me. I think it puts a bad taste in some ppls mouth because it gives the appearance that one cares more about money and materials than the person that they are suppose to be sharing life with. I have my own house, car, etc. If I was presented with a prenup I would make sure that it's mutually beneficial for both parties involved! It's challenging to entrust all of the finances to one party when they can and some have abandoned and abused their spouse financially! I have seen this happen so just make sure you have the conversation upfront. Also, know the laws in your state. If you reside in a community property state, they are only dividing what was accumulated during the marriage not before. If it bothers you just make sure you purchase everything BEFORE you get married! It's only fair to split what was acquired during the marriage.

Being that women initiate 70% of divorce and 90% if college educated then a prenup is a no brainer for most men who have built wealth prior to a marriage.
Unfortunately since a prenup can still be contested......Then it makes no sense for a man to even get married in todays time. Way too much risk for men.
The stats are even worse for black women and marriage so it makes absolutely no sense for men to go in without a prenup.
This coming from a man who is happily married many many years who believes in marriage but not having a prenup makes no sense in 2023 and beyond.

I mostly listened to most of your conversation, which is rich AND so much racialization of the topics tackled. So much interiorized narratives about your black communities. When I do sth as a Black woman I never limit myself because I am black. The stumbling block aren't community tied but individual.
What, why being so victimizing. Even at the level of success you reached. This is very American.
I can't relate and I sense that re interning these 'as a black a 'black that is billionaires etc.... The programming is harsh in the state. And I am not even talking about mainstream and politics. People themselves.... Black ppl themselves choose these boxes.
Stop. If you want to be a model for blacks to succeed, STOP repeating this programming that oh, as a Black you have a bad self esteem, as a black you have more difficulties.... We aren't in North Korea or China....
This is unreal. In the sense this programming IS A LIE. And it takes away from the value of your message.
I am Cameroonese. Born in Belgium. For the context. Here too and everywhere there may be ppl thinking like that. That are black . But in yall country. Yall are doing TOO MUCH. As if you were living in the poor parts of Africa yearning to go to Europe.

I couldn't agree more about the self-limiting hyperfixation on race. I grew up in Jamaica and given that most of us are black, I didn't really hear people blame race for their struggles. Now being in the States I understand where it comes from, as there are lingering and still existing effects of systematic oppression. However, maintaining the box that we were placed in ain't it, and is one of things that grinds my gears about our community. I believe that God can take you anywhere, regardless of society. Yes, we face discrimination but I feel like focusing too much on the fact that someone who is successful happens to be black takes away from them first and foremost being human, and enforces the false ideology that blackness is 'other'. We are all human ❤.
