Make Noise Phonogene, QuBit Mojave, two Versios- ‘Eventually, Covid’- RtB

Don’t get Covid if you can possibly help it. I managed to avoid so much as a sniffle of it despite my partner having had it three times in 2020/21, but just two days into a well-earned retirement I was laid low- and very very ill- by the pernicious little virus, and pretty much missed Xmas and New Year. The week in between is just a blur of feeling like absolute sh!t. More than two weeks later, I’m still far from feeling well- but at least in the last couple of days I’ve felt like going into the studio (as opposed to sitting bundled up indoors thinking ‘I just can’t face it’), and much has changed…
I don’t yet feel sharp enough to dig back into the Syntrx II, requiring as it does not only a new way of modular thinking but also a certain amount of hand/eye coordination. However, while having nothing better to do than prod about on a iPad, I snapped up a Phonogene that had recently come up for sale, and when it arrived a couple of days back I was enthused to go out and rebuild the ‘tape and microsound’ skiff that had big holes in it following the shipping of the Morphagene back to Asheville for repair to an output, and of course the faulty Nebulae (STILL awaiting its replacement six weeks and more later). The PG- very limited in comparison to the MG but still a lot of fun- was just what I needed to rediscover the joys of noise, and this patch arose over a couple of hours knob-twiddling. There’s just one lo-fi piano note in a single splice coming from the PG, the Mojave is adding melodically to that note, the first Versio (running Imitor firmware, not Melotus) supplies delay, and the DV adds smeary reverb. If it sounds repetitive and boring, yet vaguely nightmarish, that’s Covid for you.
The outcome of getting an unforeseen PG is that the microsound skiff will ultimately be one of 104hp, not 84hp, to allow room for the Nebulae v2, plus the MG AND the PG when the dodgy two are returned to me. And then I just have to learn the Syntrx, relearn the Buchla/TipTop gear (now also in a case of its own), sort out the lighting and the camera rig… The sooner I’m back to something like my full powers the better tbh, because retirement has not been a bundle of laughs to date.

@@walrtbstudios5430 Just completed my move, and in the process of setting up my studio. For the first time in years I can have it setup more or less how I want space wise. 6th of January already and I haven’t bought one synth so far this year, could be another month before I can afford one, longer if I wait for the ubxa.

@@walrtbstudios5430 thanks Wal. So far I got 6 synths wired to my 3 in 10 out midi thru. Pro 1, pro 800, kobol, ju-06a, jx03, and pro vs mini. Will have to either use my keysteps or my casio cz1000 as masters for now, as my oxygen 49, and code 61 are still in storage until I can get another double keyboard stand.
