I love this movie although its a little bit old movie because Li Xian is young i recognized him. He is one of my fav chinese actor. A simple story but its full of sacrificed specially the mother.❤

Strong woman? She is a controlling freak. She controls her man, scolds him in front of strangers, belittles him in front of others. I mean she is a horrible wife. I don't care how strong she is. She has no respect for her own husband.

Li Baoli grew up finally at the end.She saw her error.Not to excuse the son.People need to consult astrology before wedding.She was incompatible with her first husband.I had similar experience.We dwell in ignorance.
It wasn't an error that belongs to the mother. She saw that the boy blaming her for the fathers suicide. Ther father made the wife the one to blame instead of taking responsibility. The boy was closed in this reality.
Women like her complain. She makes him food, take care of the household, is loyal. The pity is that she sometimes says mean things as look at our stupid son etc. But she is correct in everything else.
Brilliant story which i have never watch covering the life of poor people. A family struggle for the best future of their child. I don't blame his motherfor the tragedy of the family. Yes, in the beginning she was rude to her mother in law and refuses to have sex with her husband. I don't take it is her mistake to report her husband with extra marital affair. In this kind of society it is a power struggle to survive their living. The husband was narrow minded as he will lost his job at the same time with that extra marital affair. The mother did not lost her ability as she was not educated, instead she took any job to support her son. But her son didn't recognized all of this only her mother in law. In reality this is really happening not only in China but all over the world. Hoping that his son will succeed in his education find a good career, good paying job and forgive what he cause his mother grief as he did listen to what her mother said to the man. Very interesting to watch
They are not poor. Her husband is a middle-level cadre of a state-owned enterprise, and their house is a benefit provided by the company. This was almost a very generous life in the Chinese context at that time. She was a good person, and the tragedy of that was her character.
