Go Back to China with Anna Akana - FULL MOVIE - Comedy, Drama, Asian American

- Опубліковано 16 січ 2025
- When spoiled rich girl Sasha Li blows through half of her trust fund, she is cut off by her father and forced to go back to China and work for the family toy business. What begins simply as a way to regain financial support soon develops into a life-altering journey of self-discovery, as she learns the business from the ground up and reconnects with her estranged family in the process.
Go Back to China is a hilarious, heartfelt, and compelling portrait of what happens when today’s Millennial culture clashes with the old-school, hard-working values that families around the world have continued to instill and pass down. It also offers an honest look at the human cost of things that are made in China.

Omg... sasha's dad is exactly like my dad... I thought he hated me but after he passed away....I realized how harsh the outside world is and he was just preparing me to be brave and to face any hardships in life, I now realize why he was so tough on me... miss you dad ❤️
ooohhhh!!
Your words made me cry as they reminded me my father

so sorry/disappounting. that u realized this after his death 😭
There is a saying "Mums stroke, dads poke"...
The actor for the Dad was Richard Ng, a famous actor from Hong Kong, who just passed away in April 2023. It is possible this was his last play. Love the characters Mr. Ng brought to many movies.
Hahaha so sorry
OH, NO!!! I had not heard that. SAD!
He did a great job. This is my first movie . All the characters did good as well . Hope there's Part 2

Only a woman could write something like this, you feel the touch of a sensitive woman. Very nice! Good teachings, above all about EGO, family, friendship, life, love. You can easily understand what is better to avoid to do. Life is not money, nor business, life is enjoying what you have, doing what you really want to do, being grateful, thanking for everything, even for tiny things, and helping those who have less than you. I enjoyed this movie a lot, thanks for uploading.
You can find these exact morals in Star Wars, and other stories like it . I think these are ethics that people of all genders have, but we're being deprived of it in the media these days.
This movie teaches more value than most blockbuster's in Hollywood. I hope it gets more exposure. Interesting thing is the cast they chose. Anna Akana has no ties to China, not even a Chinese name, but she did a very credible acting role, you really need to understand the cultural roots to express those emotions.
In Chinese culture things can be woven tight but this movie unraveled things well for those unfamiliar with it. Culture in China is very unique and wonderful, even if they are plagued with an oppressive government. That is not their fault. They deserve better and hopefully one day the government will listen more to the people. Meanwhile let's learn from films like this. They teach much.
So refreshing to see a movie without a “love interest”! An interesting and entertaining movie. I learnt something about toys.
Yeah exactly. Finally more than the typical plotline.
Being 1st Generation Chinese-American with parents from China, I totally relate to this movie. This is better than the stereotyped movies portraying Chinese people from the past decades.
Totally agreed.I do love those period dramas though, even if bit fake in some ways.

This movies filled with stereotypes!
She has so cuute and nice friends with looks but also with brain and style, therefore I like this movie even more. They keep the conversation at higher level than about boys and drinks. They party in a fun way and keep their self esteem . This movie brings so many good examples of how friends should be.
Exactly
Yes, I am glad this was not the "ditch the girl when she is no longer rich" plot twist.
I surfed UA-cam for an hour trying to look for an actual good movie till I found this... definitely LOVED it❤
Me, too. It was wonderfully delicious.
Mee too 🥲 let's see 😊
Obviously love it
Me 2, I was scrolling then landed on this film, loved it
I like the way actors speak English incredibly. Most of all, how the Filipino characters were treated. The maid wasn't insulted or shouted upon. The Filipino product designers, too, wee treated well. Thanks to the movie writer. That was entertaining.
24:45 except here, she got verbal abuse
@@colinmaharaj i think that is the way he is. He scolded his factory worker too

Pinoy din yung main character. Ipinanganak na sa US. Kapatid sya ng classmate ng anak ko.

Come on.
He scolded her. I didn't see any insults anywhere.@@colinmaharaj
When I saw this in my recommendations, I thought about how cringe it looked and it was probably going to stereotype the Asian community instead. This movie was really good! It made me think, cry, and appreciate my parents that much more.
I love how the filipino and chinese are working well together with the americans. This is a truly Asian Amercian movie. I love it. Keep it up.
Lulu did not even finish high school and worked at a local hair salon but her English is top-notch!
😂lousy movie

For real?
This is a gem of a movie. I'm glad it appeared in my feed.

She actually isn't as bratty as dad makes her out to be. She really has a good heart and love for hard working people ❤️
The father is the one with the problem.
Yall spoiled just like her must be. Dad right.

@backedupwithtruth: Absolutely.
This is such an amazing movie that really reflects actual chinese social problem and challenges that current generation is facing. Acting 100%. Story line 100%. Love it.
Did you know what have you tell here? Are you compare Chinese ways of living with the USA way of living???
@@jesantonihevileon8611 Not everyone in North America lives like Sasha was living! I spent about the first 10 years of my working life in a factory in Vancouver, BC, Canada. There were some Chinese people working there also, but not all of the workers were Chinese.
None of the characters in the movie are real Chinese, they are fake Chinese acting by Americans pretending knowing Chinese culture, it make me sick to watch the successful Chinese business man-the father acting horribly towards anyone he saw. He won’t have a chance to become thus rich if he behaves like that in China. What is the era the movie was casted? 1990s?
it's just what the US or Hongkongers that never been to mainland China think it is. This movie made by Amercians and hire a lot of Hongkong staff, I can see the background of the team. The movie has to cater for the American Audience, but lot of the details are not real.
Try the shut up button just for fun
relatable. as a filipina my culture taught me to get good grades and work hard and be what our parents thought they want us to be … hence majority is not living their dream. Being a mother i had instilled in my son to go for what you love to do and get paid . PLAN A should be the focus but we’re caught up with plan B .. back up plan and should never be like that
When Sasha 's dad said to his employees, "more passion!" What a welcome 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂crazy dad
Love this move so much. It popped up as a suggested movie for me randomly and I thought why not. It was such a fun and touching movie. I'm glad I gave it a watch.

Great movie! Real family story conflict life. The sibling acted really well, very natural! Forgives, regardless of their flaws.
Sometimes your own family disappointments serves to save other people disappointments. In fact, Sasha's disappointments of being fatherless helped to all factory workers to be close to their families. Great lessons to learn from this movie. .....
this deserves more hype !! im so glad youtube recommended this to me. and anna is such a good actress, i hope she gets more roles~
The best actress is being yourself in a situation
Right! I even forgot that I was watching “Anna Akana”. I’d love to watch more movies with her in it, as well as the other actors. Everyone was so good. I really enjoyed this movie.
Family is always more important than Money. Great movie and so many lessons to learn. Thank you
Fathers with business think so..and some of their children..but others take advantage after he has died..and they not only mess up the business and finish with it (just to brag about having money, they have never worked to earn, learnt nothing..and think that money will always be pouring down ...) This is my situation...with other 3 sisters and their husbands..they wanted me out..they made fraud..and I just had no option to faught back...legal battles are dificult..but I have to take over my dads business to save it from this harpies..
What a movie, no action no nothing but a huge and a great message, and that's an example of a true father right there, this movie is really rich of meanings!
Good, doing is better than talking, special for new fashineble generation.
Actually Sasha’s father is such an action man 🔥.
Such a sweet movie! Anna's and Lynn's acting was very natural. Love from Sri lanka 🇱🇰

They are totally natural as if they were the movie screen writers. I was impressed by Dad’s acting skill since I have seen him in several Hong Kong movies. His interaction with Sasha was so true.
I'm so happy to see Filipino actors and actress in this movie 🤗🤗🤗

The act of generosity, in the end, gave me tears! Fabulous movie
This is really well done. So much of the Chinese family caring culture, the work ethics, and the deeply heart felt connections I genuinely can relate to. It was also hillarious the screaming, the blaming and downward spiral of negativity. Overall really grateful for this story telling of my Chinese heritage
A pop up movie on the my newsfeed, and is really a good movie to watch, an also a lesson learned movie and i’m glad to see some filipino cast on this show that speaks also tagalog...a well done movie!...
This made me cry because it hit so close to home. I'm from an Indian family so not everything relates but the discussion that Carol had with her dad about taking responsibility and being a daughter before being his employee/investment hit too close to home. I wish my parents would have at least told me what I'm signing up for and give me the option to leave and support myself if I choose. Most Asian parents don't give their children this choice and expect the world out of their kids. It's simply too much pressure sometimes.
Quit complaining. Where would you be without your parents? Snorting Fentanyl or knocked up and living on welfare. Who paid for college tuition, food, rent. Go to India and see how life is. Not everyone lives like the Ambani kids.
@@phoebusapollo4677 these gen z cannot live without parents support for a month also...reality hits them once they become parents
When you struggle and succeed, you will know the value of Money. Its better the kids struggle and do something for living.
Good movie, I laughed when he said, “ daddy is afraid that people in your school will think that I am your grandpa.”
That was funny.
Such a feel good movies, good values too
Such a good movie... the combination of entertainment and lessons to learn makes it a brilliant art
Surprised how good this movie was I don't usually get into small budget family dramas but this is really a charming little flick thanks for the upload. 😊
good movie
I hugely enjoyed it as well!
Lovely authentic reflection of the many cultural challenges in the US, China and everywhere the orientals have prospered and grown into other nations, cultures. The web has made it like in our face! Story is so realistic, great actors too. Enjoyed the dynamics of family run business that doesn't stop when partners go home after work!
Gone from a 35percent profit margin down to 10percent.
Shipping costs are through the roof
I can relate much.. good times working as a nanny 10 years ago in Hongkong. Respect to my Chinese employers.
Just bumped it on UA-cam, and watch it by curiosity, but it's really good movie and tears up. Everyone did great job on their characters 👏 😍
I agree 👍
Same here
Amazing movie. Awesome actors from China and the Philippines 😊❤️❤️❤️
This was like a youtube special with Anna Akana headlining a movie and Pomplamoose singing the end credits, so very cool! So my parents came from mainland China and their early teens were spent dodging the Japanese during WWII and they came out unscathed and came to the U.S. (fun fact my Dad was in the army stationed in Germany the same time Elvis was there and although he never met him, he saw the impact he had even in a foreign country).
My dad worked hard in my youth and I never saw him that much even though we were in the same house. I didn't resent it until later in my adult life and I never appreciated his sacrifice until later in my adult life. He never cheated on my mom, never gambled, never drank and had his three sons financially setup for college. I really appreciated the nuance of the movie setting up the father as a flawed character at odds with his children. The parental sacrifice and their understanding if their children want to follow a different path is so relevant. Thanks Dad, you're the best!
👍...this is reality of everyones life...i like the story it en-tells a lot of how our society works...how family survives.. thumbs up to my filipino countrymen portraying the reality of working abroad leaving their families behind in order to earn...

I came across this movie while scrolling on UA-cam. I love this movie. I love the character of Sasha Ting, the character of the father is rather harsh or abusive but then all of a sudden, towards the end,
the father lightens up to have a soft heart 😂. I want to explore more of Emily Ting's movies.
I've learnt so much, Sasha learns so much, she knows when to forgive and give. She is honest and i think i love that character

Yes it made me cry but it made me upset as well and it also made me happy compromising working as a team together to make something work rather than caring about one another that only causes enemies bitterness frustration and nobody wins that way

wow, what a great movie, the writing, directing, acting, casting, music. I can't think of a single flaw.
It is fascinating to see Anna Akana grow artistically so much in front of my eyes, from shorter videos to short films to this.
This movie made me cry lots,I haven’t back to China for years already
I Loooveee this movie. I enjoyed this movie story so realistic and based from Chinese norms for centuries. After I watch I felt I received a seminar about business mgmt. on a family enterprise. On top of it all, a new perspective to establish nicer relationship of siblings from multiple wives. That father could have intentionally treated them all equally tough, drove them to challenge him in unison and let each siblings DNA do the rest.
I think a parent on a late stage of life has a lot to worry if anyone of his children is a stranger or not in harmony/disarray, even worst seeing them in chaos over inheritances.
Being Asian and a Filipino at that super can relate. We don't mind a boss who screams and taunt but never backs it up, those are the kind of bosses that you just need to understand. ... There is this saying that states ... You don't have to understand but rather just be understanding, that's the secret to a Filipino's patience. "Kung nakakaintindi ka, intindihin mo na lang." There are a lot of old timers that think their time consumed through work is their sacrifice for the betterment of their family, yet forget to give a single second for their family. ... ... so sad.
Did enjoy the flick.
Love how forgiving she is toward her father and able to see beyond his harsher ways... wish I was as forgiving and could be as close with mine. Love how beautiful her heart is and how she showed such depth beyond the initial superficiality she exhibited. really enjoyed this movie!! so much to appreciate about it.
Surprisingly spot on with so many things that I experienced/witnessed while a grad student in Taiwan and working at a factory that yes, made toys for a huge not-to-be-named company. Very well done. Thank you!

Anna, I have watched many of you're videos, and I have enjoyed them. But I never had a clue that you are this talented. On many levels, I loved this movie. Social responsibility, social awareness, generational differences, family dysfunction, healing, redemption, forgiveness and love, all tied together in a heartwarming story. Again I say, I loved it! ❤
David, you are right on. At the end of the day, family is beautiful!
This movie is so professionally produced and directed. I guess I thought it was just a comedy UA-camr making a little movie. Well done! And a wonderful story. The whole factory setting is completely real, including the dining hall, the sewing room, the cutting room, just not the final scene. As far as I know, there are still no real factories in China that offer daycare for the children of their migrant workers.
The Chinese workers are exploited.
Very good story. Made me look at China in a much finer way, I enjoyed 'living' the story of this girl from the western side. I enjoyed this film. Congratulations.

I can't believe this hasn't gotten more coverage. There are so many subtle social values brought out here so well. It begins a little slow but don't let that dissuade you: Most of us are used to movies for viewers with ultra low attention spans. Don't be like that and miss this marvelous film. This is a treasure. There's real depth here, real sound family qualities that everyone can relate to. Plus there are many unexpected surprises in the plot line that were very inventively woven in.
