You've gotta have a lot of respect for Rodney! I found out that 20 years before he came into comedy he was given a contract to perform his comedy routine. The lady he was seeing became pregnant and he decided to stay home and raise the child. He worked as a Tin salesman for 20 years. The reason he did not take the comedy routine is that his father traveled a lot and he never saw his father. He said that he would not put his child through that. So, it was only after he raised his child and was there for his child that he was offered another comedy routine contract. For a man who made a living saying "I get no respect," I sure have a lot of respect for him. RIP Rodney!

He had his own comedy club back in the 1960s. At the end of the Queensborough Bridge at 59th street and 2nd Avenue, there was a advertisement on the wall of the building that had his name and the address of his club. Unfortunately at tha time I was a boy and the only comedy I knew of was in the movies and television. In my old hometown of NYC during the Mad Men era! 😊
Rodney’s jokes are so simple and we’ve probably heard most of them before, but something about the way he delivers the jokes, you can’t help but laugh.
His story is incredible. Growing up was incredibly sad, but he was able to turn so much around for himself. Because of his comedy club several comedians got their start. He's the king of one liners, and his wit is incredibly quick
Rodney had some great movies, but his stand-up was what he began with and is what made him famous. One of my favorite movies he was in was "Caddy Shack", released in 1980 and was a huge hit; although, he wasn't the main character. I think he is funnier when you see a straight show instead of a compilation. The jokes are rapid fire like that but the conversation is more consistent. A fun reaction.
He was putting roasting and self deprecating humor into the mainstream. His jokes were so well constructed. Set up punch. So you’d get so much out of a ten min session
I'm a 74 year old white man and I love watching you young men dig on the old stuff! I'm not real big on stand up but Rodney Dangerfield never ceases to make me laugh from the gut.
I'm a Navy veteran once stationed in Iceland. The Vikings gave these islands names that would confuse any of their enemies. The name translated to Greenland so the enemy would assume it is a lush, beautiful island. So, of course, the opposite was true for Iceland....the enemy would stay away, thinking it was a frozen tundra. Iceland is cold, as well, but not unbearable and gorgeous with amazing, natural hot springs throughout the country.
I've always heard that Greenland got its name from Erik the Red (an exiled Viking murderer). He had nowhere else to go, and hoped the name would bring more settlers there and make life easier in such a difficult place to survive.
he does a bunch of one liners in Cadyshack. Tons of great actors and he stars as a rich guy in developing who hates snobs and wants to develope a golf resort. REAL funny and not a waste of time. Classic thanks guys and RIP Rodney

As a Gen Xer growing up in the late 70s and early 80s We had limited platforms for media. The internet was still in it's infancy There was no world wide web just TV and radio stations that were worked on an analog system You had 3 major TV networks ABC, CBS, and NBC. Those networks were adult oriented and young adults had to watch what older people were watching The Gen X were the last "Hand me down" kids I knew about Rodney Dangerfield when I was 9 years old because of his stand up comedy albums Our parents bought these racy records to listen to when the kids were asleep But we latchkey kids found them when you were at work and invited our friends to our homes (against the latchkey rules) to listen to the most vulgar comedy stand ups and we loved it. Y'all are funny and a joy to watch. Yes, Rodney was Jewish. His real last name was Cohen. He got his start decades before I was born in 1971, but I had a chance to see him on roasts, TV late night shows, etc. in the 70s and 80s. My favorite movie role for him was in "Caddyshack" around 1980. So damn funny. "Let's dance"!! Lol Dangerfield was a brilliant stand up comic. His main angle was self-deprecation often related to his looks, his intelligence, or his marriage/wife. "No respect, no respect at all...." was his catch phrase. Great comic. I'd give a lot to watch him and Don Rickles at a Catskills performance. Keep doing what y'all are doing, gentlemen.
Y'all weren't there for the 80s, but watch Rodney in Back to School. The late, great Sam Kinison plays a Vietnam vet history teacher and steals a scene (watch the story of that scene). The movie had 80s titular bad boy William Zabka (best know for his role in the original Karate Kid) in it, and also had a performance by a huge 80s band: Oingo Bingo (their lead singer went on to do many film scores, including the 1989 Batman and Nightmare before Christmas). Rodney's uncensored stand up comedy is the best, but very hard to find; worth it though!
Very happy to see more old comedy on your channel. Rodney was one of a kind. I grew up watching him on TV, so when I lived in Ft Lauderdale he did a show on NY Eve and I went. OMG I had no idea how filthy his live shows were. Filthy, but absolutely hilarious! The don’t make them like that anymore. RIP Rodney.
I watched Rodney Dangerfield stand-up comedy show in New York City in 1971! The Righteous Brothers in 1964 were amazing as were The Dolby Brothers, Logan and Messina, and The Beatles. Yup, I am old 😂
You gotta see him in some of his movies. He was always known for “I can’t get no respect””…”. His jokes are all along that line, but when he’s pulling some of these lines here and there in a movie, he’s hilarious!
Rodney Dangerfield. The Master Of The One Liner. Rodney delivers some of the funniest lines ever yet he is so professional he never laughs at his own jokes even while the entire audience is busting up loudly. In the time he is performing you may hear at least fifty jokes that are all hilarious. He doesn’t stutter or miss a line. His facial expressions are perfect, part of his act. He rarely makes a joke about anyone other than himself and his family/personal life. He has a response to whatever subject/issue you mention, with at least ten jokes. His spontaneous off the top of his head replies to others comments are masterful. There will never be another individual with his talents and pure comedic brilliance. “The last time I saw a mouth like your’s, it had a hook in it” - Rodney Dangerfield in “Caddyshack“.
I saw him at Resorts casino in 1979 and he pulled me onstage made fun of me, gave me his (sweaty) necktie and a big hug, felt like he cracked a few ribs.❤ A true LEGEND
I was watching knowing the cultural differences about women, relationships, and strangeness between now and then. Such a vast difference. You can gauge which jokes are 'universal' and which appeal to a certain slice of personality. Interesting these guys are from a family (I am assuming based on the name) so they will have the same overall view of the 'what's funny?' gap. Very interesting watch for people who study humor. Cultural and personal filters - there should be some way to monetize this kind of output because AI is going to be using this kind of thing in the years ahead to learn how people see life. Very interesting video.
I saw him live back in high school, '79 I think it was. He did about 15 minutes of Italian jokes, then he goes "Tired of Italian jokes? Ok how about some Polish jokes?" then proceeded to do 15 minutes of Polish jokes. He had a huge catalog of great material, but a great ability to ad lib as well. Someone in the balcony was heckling him, and he finally had enough of the guy. Comes out with: "I was in the library the other and saw a sign that said STFU!" The dude sunk in his chair trying to disappear as we all lost it.
Rodney was a devoted family man, and a great father, and everyone understood his routine was not based on reality. He also smoked weed daily for like thirty years. His signature "I don't get no respect!" line has a fun backstory. He was working at one of the resorts in the Poconos and overhead a table of mafia guys complaining, and one of them kept whining about the lack of respect he got from the family. Dangerfield took it and turned it into one of the most recognizable comedy lines ever. I'm glad you folks discovered him, he was truly one of the greats.
Rodney was a gem and the perfect comedian of the time. My all time favorite joke of his is. "I tell ya, my daughter failed here driving test. I asked her what happened. She said, 'I couldn't get used to the front seat".
He's one of the kings of the one liners. He's in the movie "Back to School" - its a classic. You guys should have another channel for movie reactions like I've seen others have.
Johnny Carson 'Owned' late night TV for a quarter century. In his opening monolog every night he stood in front of color curtains. Every comedian that appeared for all those years, & who's careers were launched by appearing on Johnny's show. Every one of them stood in front of gray curtains... Except Rodney Dangerfield! The one & only comedian to get: color curtains.

Check out some of his movies. One in particular that is funny is Caddyshack where he's at this elite country club and his personality and class just clashes with the rest of them and really irritates this one guy. It also has Chevy Chase and Bill Murray in it. Really funny. He also was in a movie called Ladybugs where he was asked by his boss to coach the soccer team that his daughter is on and they really sucked but his stepson who got kicked out of his soccer team for being so good he was aggressive, he gets the idea to have him pretend to be a girl and help them win games lol. It's funny. The mom from Sister Sister is in that one too.
Thanks for posting this, I’ve been a fan of Rodney D since the mid-70s, I had one of his albums and have heard it countless times over several years after that. There were a few jokes here I’ve never heard. Thanks again. As far as comedians go, I recommend a young Dom Errera.

One of my favorites is "You know you're getting old when your insurance company sends you only half a calendar."
I called my dentist and told him my teeth were turning yellow. He told me to wear a brown necktie.
My wife's cooking is so bad, the flies patched the screen door.
My bartender asked "What'll you have?" I said, "Surprise me." "HE SHOWED ME NAKED PICTURES OF MY WIFE!"-Rodney Dangerfield.

Rodney was one loyal guy. His ex-wife got cancer and he moved her in with him and his sons and took care of her until she passed away.
That was very kind. Gene Wilder stayed married to Gilda Radner, until she died, so that she wouldn't be alone.
Thanks guys, I needed tge laughs from Rodney and y'all reactions.
I remember really liking him back in the day. He was in a couple of big comedies in the 80's. "Caddyshack" and "Back to School."
Dangerfield got so popular as a Stand Up Comic, he started making movies.... , God rest his soul.
He was also a great actor, and with his one liners, he was a blast in Caddyshack
And , Back to school with the guy that did Christine 👍 Ernie
The last doctor joke had me in stitches 😂😂😂😂😂
was that the one with the nurse? no matter.
@@boblozaintherealworld3577the one with the hammer
Back to school. One of his best.
Watching these guys bring me joy.
his triple lindey dive in back to school was iconic!
I love the diversity of people you watch. Keep up the great work guys
Rodney was a gem and the perfect comedian of the time. My all time favorite joke of his is. "I tell ya, my daughter failed here driving test. I asked her what happened. She said, 'I couldn't get used to the front seat".
I was born in '65. Yes my girlfriend and I danced to this. It was also played during singles skate at the roller rink.
He's one of the kings of the one liners. He's in the movie "Back to School" - its a classic. You guys should have another channel for movie reactions like I've seen others have.
Back to School is pure gold!
Rodney Dangerfield was hilarious in the classic 80's comedy BACK TO SCHOOL. A young, unknown co-star named Robert Downey Jr. was funny as hell, too.
I love and miss you sir. The real og class act. And his hair is perfect. ❤
*You guys should start a movie reaction channel! Would love to see you do old school hilarious classic comedies like YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, AIRPLANE, CADDYSHACK!*
How do you think Blazing Saddles would go over?
@@michaelanderson2881 Blazing Saddles was in no way racist. The message was that that movie made fun of racists and racism.
@@bobby_c7671 hahahaha! Haven't you been watching the news for the last 15 years? A white guy yells "The Sheriff is a n... [whooooooooooooooo!]." Doesn't matter how funny that was, people are going to be offended.
Caddyshack is a must review. Great movie.
Rodney Dangerfield was so great my mom got me started on him this was too funny.
Rodney also starred in the classic 80's comedy film "Caddyshack" alongside Bill Murray, Chevy Chase and Ted Knight.
Rodney Dangerfield was a great comedian and actor he was big back in the 70s and 80s y'all really need to check out his movies and comedy shows
Check out some of his movies.
Rodney was original and damn right funny!!
I saw in Vegas back in the 80s. He was just as fast live. One liner after one liner. We couldn’t stop laughing to catch our breath.
Thanks for posting this, I’ve been a fan of Rodney D since the mid-70s, I had one of his albums and have heard it countless times over several years after that. There were a few jokes here I’ve never heard. Thanks again. As far as comedians go, I recommend a young Dom Errera.
"Back To School" was a great movie
Especially the scene with Sam Kinison
I loved his roll in “Caddy Shack”
Rodney put many many comedians on stage for the first time ,he payed it forward.
The king of oneliners. Comedy is a presence.
I don't know if you've watched Tim Conway's dentist sketch. It's one of the funniest ever.
I loved that skid , Tim Conway another gem
Haha! Conway made Harvey Korman laugh so hard,he peed his pants.
Watching these five guys hardly crack a smile while Rodney shoots off one liners that had me rolling on the floor. They don’t get him. Just the guy on the left laughed.
Yeah. I think a lot of the jokes went over their heads.
Dang kids, these days! 😂
You guys have great energy Always makes me smile
Yall need to go watch the movie "Back to School"
You Have To Watch The Dean Martin Roasts😂
Agreed
This is the 'tv' version of his comedy. Rodney truly shined working live...and his act was...very blue.
