This was what got me too and a episode we see the lich frozen in some type of brown liquid, the same liquid the deer used to capture the candy citizens?? Maybe this deer is actually some type of entity that we never got to fully know about?
edit: the episode we see the deer also summarizes the episode by saying finn and jake stop a UNEARTHLY stag, i might be reaching but that deer is probably something way bigger then we all think

@@imnotkito6051 Well it could be a situation like Gunther as we see no other deer besides this one. There is also the possibility that it was something created using magic that was created to seal powerful entities that weren’t physically powerful. With the seal of the Lich being a result of another much bigger creature that produces the same kind of liquid. As how much of that liquid that created in the episode took at least a day which would be too long as the Lich could have killed the unearthly stag by then.

Peace master was vulnerable from the beginning, if he hadn't been paranoid he wouldn't have blurted out the fact he had 'kids' in 'danger'. I like how in adventure time there are horrors like The Lich, Golb, Zombies oozing literal acid out of their mouths, but the entire fan base has collectively agreed that a deer that stands upright and has fingers instead of paws is the scariest thing in the series

@@Balrog-tf3bg that was before he knew it was wrong... 😂
That's actually one of the most interesting parts of Jake's intrinsic character traits. The story writers were really careful about making him "dog-like" wherever possible.
That is not to say that he hates mailmen, for instance, but that he has trouble visualizing hypothetical future events...his trouble at Prismo's, for instance. He wants a sandwich, so the only thing hes thinking of, to the point of wasting a cosmic wish, is a sandwich. Anf He doesn't seem to know right from wrong in the same intrinsic ways that humans do.
There are a few episodes with a throw away line or two where Jake mentions he's not so great at planning for the future.
THE 6 MONTH thing is also a great instance of this phenomenon. Jake has no idea. It's not about dog year conversion or anything like that. 6 months, 2 years, a week. It's probably all the same to a dog waiting on his boy.
When he and Finn were eating at Berry Princess' kingdom, and Jake says straight up that he wonders if there isn't a small person inside him, eating all his food as it goes into his mouth. And that's why he's always hungry. Continues to demolish food with VERY canine-esque chomping sounds. [Small sad Jake face,] He means that literally. Jake can reason. Jake can talk. But Jake is most DEFINITELY a dog. And these dogs came from stock similar to our dogs IRL.
I've noticed more and more of these examples with every rewatch. I think it is some of the most clever and abstract enrichment in the show. Some dog limitations are hard to articulate just with words... but I digest...
      Goodnight, and good luck.

I believe the deer is one of the few remaining animals in the old world mutated after the Mushroom War. He gained conciousness reminiscent of a human, but more in some twisted intent compared to the other fauna of Ooo. The only thing the deer craves is candy, like we do; obsessing to the point where he abducted the candy people just to get "sugar", his energy to survival. That's just my assumption. Unsure if it would be true as of now.

Yeah. When episodes like these aired in the early 2010s, this show felt different compared to a lot of other cartoons at the time like Phineas & Ferb and Fanboy & Chum Chum that tried going for a happy upbeat vibe. This show would later influence later shows like Steven Universe, Infinity Train, and The Owl House to name a few. The way Adventure Time took dark topics was way more serious compared to older shows like Courage, Invader Zim, and it's predecessor, Flapjack. That would explain the non deerlike actions, the fingers, and the want to "get some" with pb. As I said, weird though but it makes sense to me.

Knowing Adventure Time I always believed it was worded to sound like a dirty implication but she really meant it literally and the deer was just obsessed with the sugar of the candy people and this was it's collection chamber, storing sugary treats to lick whenever it wanted. Also, PB probably trying to play off a traumatic experience with humor.

Finn is a monstrously strong hero who could flip and throw a massive monster many times his size, with extensive martial arts experience as well as the endurance and durability to dip his head in lava and survive. This deer managed to overpower him and break both of his legs easily. Jake is a magical dog who can stretch and shape himself to his imagination and can crush boulders with ease. Princess bubblegum is easily one of the most terrifying, intelligent tyrants in all of Ooo. Peppermint butler is a master of dark magic. This deer beat all of them single-handedly without struggle (initially).
