  • At the Mexico Games in 1968, two African-American athletes stood on the winners' podium - heads bowed, gloved hands raised in a black power salute. One of them, Tommie Smith, joins Krishnan on the aftermath of his controversial protest.

America doesn't need to forgive you, they need to seek forgiveness for even putting you in a position to have to publicly demonstrate on a matter that they choose not to address. Injustice among African Americans, racism, police brutality, and so much more.

What is sadly lost in coverage of this event is the role played by Australian Peter Norman who finished second. He supported Smith and Carlos 100% even wearing the human rights patch Smith and Carlos wore. He was ostracized in Australia. He qualified for the 72 Olympics but was not permitted to go. He was told he would be forgiven if he took a stand against this protest but he refused. He was not "forgiven" until years after his death when the Australian government drafted a formal apology. Smith and Carlos were pall bearers at his funeral. Please remember this piece of history when you think or read about Smith and Carlos. Thank you.

What?! Tommie Smith & John Carlos are not in the Olympic Hall of Fame? This is egregious! Unconscionable! And they insist that politics has not place in sports? Puhleeze! Where is the outcry and activism from all of the athletes, particularly the Black athletes? You all are standing on the shoulders of these two great men, who each happen to be a helluva athlete! I'm embarrassed and ashamed! Power and Respect to you Tommie Smith and John Carlos.

The truth that Jesus brought to to world, would not be, until his sacrifice. The truth that these men brought to the world, would not be realized, until their sacrifice. Now, those truths live forever.
